On Friday, we shared a What to Expect Guide that highlights everything we're expecting to see from Apple in 2023, based on current product rumors and historical release data.

What-Do-You-Want-to-See-2023-Feature.jpg

We're counting on the release of the mixed reality headset that Apple has been working on for years now, along with the Apple silicon Mac Pro and a number of other refreshed Macs. There's an iPhone 15 with a USB-C port in the works, and we could get new HomePod and AirPods Max refreshes.

We know what we think we're going to be seeing from Apple in 2023, but we want to hear opinions and wishlists from the MacRumors community. What do you want to see Apple release this year?

Are there new iPhone features you're hoping for, or something new in iOS 17 or macOS 14? What are you wanting to see from Apple's AR/VR headset?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and take a look at our What to Expect guide to see an overview of the current rumors. We'll learn a lot more about Apple's 2023 product plans in the coming months, and we'll have in-depth coverage of the rumors here at MacRumors.com.

If you want to discuss Apple's upcoming products and rumors, our MacRumors forums are an excellent resource, plus they're a great place to get help on current Apple products and software options.

As always, thank you to our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the number one source for Apple news, rumors, and advice. MacRumors celebrated its 22nd birthday this year, and that's thanks to our dedicated readers. We are looking forward to another year of rumors in 2023. Happy New Year!

I'd like to see a thinner, lighter iPhone with NO camera bump. With all the technology that has been developed, these seem like reasonable expectations.

Software stability, especially fixing bugs that have been present for ages.

Better communication regarding security fixes. open bugs and software life cycle. Providing security updates for older OS versions for a longer time.

What ai do not need are OS updates every year with features that are released weeks before the next major upgrade.

What I want to see: no major feature changes in each OS but rather a focus on solving problems, smoothing out the rough edges, increased performance on what is out now. Akin to the old Snow Leopard days. The new features being introduced seem more esoteric and half baked these days. Just make the ones that exist rock solid and perform well. Also WatchOS needs to open up the watch face design to third parties. None of Apple’s are all that great for me. Each lack something I want. It’s time.

For hardware: an iPhone Mini Pro (not low cost mini), iPad Mini OLED with a well designed keyboard cover (even if the keys will end up on the small side), an updated Apple Mouse that has less lag, pairs faster on computer boot, and is more ergonomic, an Apple Watch that is thinner and a bit smaller. Like 25% thinner and closer to the AW3 screen size but with the expanded display area.

An improved iPad OS stage manager that’s intuitive and bug free, perhaps with options to tile stages instead of window…

And then bring it to a new M2 iPhone Pro with Thunderbolt/USB4, so that I can connect it to an Apple Display (or other external monitor) Magic Keyboard and Trackpad, and DeX mode my desktop.

Sort out the confusing product lines

Macs
  • Ditch one or both of the 13" MacBooks - if the M1 Air is ditched, then the M2 MBP should lose the touchbar and drop to $999
iPads
  • Scrap the Air naming and have two sizes of iPad (8.x" and 10.x") full-screen with TouchID, Pencil 2 support and 90 Hz screens
  • iPad Pro in two sizes (11.x" and 13.x") full screen with FaceID and 120 Hz screens
  • iPad SE / education model (perhaps restructed to education purchases) home button / headphone jack
iPhones
  • Scrap the 2 year old iPhone (currently the iPhone 12)
  • iPhone SE - use old Mini format with latest SoC
  • iPhone previous year model (6.1")
  • iPhone (6.1") with tricamera system and 90 Hz screen
  • iPhone Pro (6.x") with latest features (120 Hz screen, periscope lens, vapour chamber)
  • Reduce the number of storage options and/or increase the Pro base storage capacity to 256 GB

Hardware upgrade consistency.. for example when then M2 came out, everything that used the M1 should have been bumped at the same time. There are also to many products in some areas and not enough in others..

To Many Example: too many iPads, they should get rid of about a 1/3rd of them. 13" MBP needs to go
To Few Example: Where are the M2 Mini and M2 Pro mini, and 27" iMac

Would love to see a consumer product relaunch when the M3's come out (MBA, iMac, Mini), then they can wait 6 months and do the M3 Pro and higher relaunch (MBP, Mini Pro, Studio, Pro) and get everything on a level field.

Where are you seeing the issues?

A lot of small thinks. Most annoyingly for me, as I use it a lot are a lit of small bugs and performance issues in the mail apps on macOS and iPad OS. Then there a issues with the finder, that I have to restart at least once a week and issues with accessing smb shares. Or quick view sometimes keeps the file handle open, so that a network drive can not be ejected after using quick view on a share.

The „desktop“ keeps disappearing from the finder sidebar.

Not to mention the fotos app, that crashes regulary and has a bug, that makes you rename an other album as the one selected before renaming. And the Music apps, where sorting and searching by composer is broken for me for ages.

Spotlight sometimes prevents external drives from ejecting for minutes.

This are only some of the issues I have several times a week and the list goes on.

  • Full sized HomePod
  • iPhone periscope lens / no camera bump
  • iPhone Mini (I know it won’t happen but… you asked)
