Just out of curiosity, @Spaceboi Scaphandre , what’s your concept of a MacBook SE? An M1 MacBook Air with cheaper materials to lower the price even more? A smaller MacBook Air? Or something else?

That is a good question. Honestly all those ideas would work fine. Some suggested bringing the 12 inch Macbook back, others suggested a recycled plastic chassis, and a lot say just take the old wedge Macbook design and just put an M2 chip in it.

The bigger question is what would it's starting price be. I'm thinking $750 to target the cheapo laptop crowd. You know the ones, the ones who buy those really crappy laptops with only one fan that overheat after a year designed to easily break so the user ends up having to buy a new one every two to three years.

Pricing.

Apple’s pricing is out of control. Their costs for cloud storage is ridiculous. And they still only offer 5Gb minimum?!? Seriously Apple??
I understand your complaint, since Google offers, 15GB on their free tier. But you have to see that Apple is less Service-centric for now.

  • Even MORE investment in Apple TV+ content
  • Rewards system for Apple Fitness+ with Apple Store deals or custom rewards
  • iPadOS 18 is a game-changer for the iPad
  • Multi-level audio for iPadOS for M chip devices
  • Generative AI with Siri
  • Calculator app for iPad

Last Friday, we shared our annual What to Expect Guide that covers everything we're expecting to see from Apple in 2024, based on current rumors and historical product release information.

What-to-Expect-from-Apple-in-2024-Feature-2.jpg

We're going to see the launch of the Vision Pro early in the year, followed by new OLED iPad Pro models, a new version of the AirPods, an iPad Air in a new size, an Apple Watch that has blood pressure monitoring and sleep detection, and of course, refreshed iPhone 16 models with a host of new features.

While we know what we're expecting to see from Apple in 2024, we want to hear from the MacRumors community. What are you hoping to see Apple release this year?

Are you looking forward to generative AI? Crossing your fingers for new iPhone features? What would you like to see in iOS 18? Will you buy Apple's Vision Pro headset?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and take a look at our What to Expect Guide to see an overview of the current rumors. We'll be hearing a lot more about Apple's 2024 product plans in the coming months, and we'll have in-depth coverage at MacRumors.com.

If you want to discuss Apple's upcoming products, our MacRumors forums are an excellent resource, plus they're a great place to get help on current Apple products, software, and so much more.

We'd like to thank our readers and our forum members for making MacRumors the number one source for Apple news, rumors, and advice. MacRumors celebrated its 23rd birthday this year, and that's thanks to our dedicated supporters. We are looking forward to another year of rumors and product launches in 2024. Happy New Year!

I am not an Apple user, much, but I do own the original iPad air (2011, I think). I love the iPad for the OS, but not so much the phones. On the other hand, I do not like Android tablets at all - but am a Pixel devotee. What I would like to see from Apple is the iPad PRO (OLED) leapfrog what it has underneath it in terms of other iPads. With some of the lower-end (airs) sharing the same chip, I would like to see the PRO get some software oomph. I have been toying with the idea of getting a cheaper Macbook, but since the M chips showed up on the iPad, my plans changed a lot, so I am just waiting for "that one model" to ruin the idea of another laptop. I am doing mostly music production (Garage Band, logic pro, iMovie, etc), so this would be an opportunity to upgrade an ancient ipad on my end.

the 5GB option is free

And other cloud storage services offer a lot more storage than that in their free tier. 5gb is not enough to store even just iMessage chats. It's bad on purpose so you get nonstop notifications telling you that your iCloud storage is full to push you to subscribe. It's why I had to stop using iCloud completely.

I have about 1.5gb free on my 5gb free plan. 2.1gb iPhone backup and 737mb iMessage. Health is also around 700mb.

It's sufficient for me, but more would be fine.

- Updated iPhone mini

- An Apple TV app that isn't garbage, or bringing back the separate movies and tv show apps. Give the UX team a library with 2,000 or so movies so they can see how annoying it is to navigate. Where are basic filtering options?

- Stop pushing annual macOS updates

Greatly expand and improve Siri to be useful for something other than playing music and controlling your smart home.

A Spotify connect like devices we can put at our stereo systems. Something we can control from our iDevices and play back lossless audio directly from Apple Music avoiding Airplay.

* When I remove albums/songs from my library don't remove songs from playlists. Sheesh!

- The return of Airport routers

- Improved minimum storage and memory for Macs (or more reasonable priced upgrade paths)

- iPhone 16 Pro mini (or 17, or 18.. I just want an update once in a while for small phone lovers.. with nicer camera system)

- A Mac Studio with user upgradable storage

- A fresh take on the Mac Pro, with the ability to upgrade it (board swaps, memory upgrades, etc)

- No more "Pro" labeled devices with reduced functionality (M3 MBP with one less port and only able to attach to one external display)

- LOWER PRICES
I entirely agree with all of these. The abolition of gimped "Pro" devices especially resonates with me.

To move contents (media/music files & docs) from/to the iPhone, finally!

Focus on iOS’s quality control, including battery life issues.

Lower the prices, considering component prices (SSD & memory) continually decrease over time.

Increase the meager 5Gb iCloud storage.

Make iCloud easy to use like an actual file manager, for file transfers to/from the PC!

Modernize iTunes for Windows! Allow file transfers to/from the iPhone! It’s our files!

— An awesome surprise in the form of a great new product (big or small) no-one saw coming.
— M4 featuring a huge leap in CPU performance.
— M4 featuring a huge leap in GPU performance and quality.
— More fair pricing on upgrades. (the RAM + SSD upgrade plundering must stop).

I predict none of these will happen though.

-Re-designed AWU would be nice, but not totally necessary as I am loving the current AWU 1... (at least make it thinner)

-More robust and MacOS like ipad Pro OS - maybe add user switching with different profiles

- True multi tasking in iOS 18 like having 2 apps open at once

- New bluetooth keyboard with keys that light up... I love the current keyboard but sometimes need lighting in the dark

I think thats all I want/need... pretty reasonable I think.

Oh, and some keynotes/presentations that are not as severely lacking in great thinking/framing, charm, warmth and humor as the overproduced, repetitive, self-praising formula we've been exposed to 'lately'.

You can move files to and from the iPhone via the apps/file pane in iTunes (if on windows, Finder if Mac). It's convoluted, but works. The App has to support it.

iCloud moves files back and forth, on Windows and Mac, without much issue. It's not full-featured like Google Drive, but it does work.

All accessories to be USB-C enabled

ProMotion as a standard feature on all products

An AirPods Max Version 2 (lighter, with USB-C and a proper case)

An updated iPad mini

A faster, more stable Xcode IDE

Set a higher base minimum Ram and Storage for laptops/Desktops (16gb/1Tb)

Lower Ram & Storage upgrade pricing by removing the unconscionable and utterly unjustifiable “Apple Tax”

Enable us to upgrade Ram and Storage, post purchase

Release an upgraded Siri that becomes a true digital concierge

Add a second Landscape positioned camera to iPads

My main machine is a MacBook Pro 2013, and a Mac Mini 2020. I have kept from updating due to price and too much solder in the "disposable" new world. I do think Apple has become that "evil company" from 1984 commercial.

I'd like to see some hardware changes:
- Return to removable SSD on systems
- An ethernet jack would be nice on laptops again
- Standard screws to open / replace basic components: RAM / SSD / Battery

Software Changes:
- Stop pushing new OS every year.
- Update Mojave as some of us still use 32 bit stuff.
- Remember that an iPad / iPhone is a device, and OS X powers a computer. Different interfaces.

I'm not asking for much: always newer and better AirPods Pro (they are always dreaming up something new to do with the AirPods at apple) and a 27" iMac.

I really don't understand the iMac Pro obsession. Everybody complains about Macs not being upgradeable, but somehow they want an even more non-upgradeable iMac.

Then, if we look at the numbers:

A Studio Display is $1,600.

A 16/512 Mac Mini is $1,000.

So, a 27" iMac Pro will probably come in at around $3,000. 32" will probably be pushing $4,000. Do people really want to pay that much for one of these, and then have to ditch the monitor in a few years when the Mac portion needs upgrading, just to not have a separate box for the CPU?

Regardless if I agree or not with some of your proposals, I haven’t read a post easier to reply with a: not gonna happen.
