Late posting this... but had to share.
A good friend came over last evening and I shared with her that I am getting an Apple Watch and it's finally preparing to ship... Her immediate response was "That's such a waste of money. Can't believe you're spending $$ on that!"
I asked her if she believed everything she saw/heard on the news/internet ~ or if she actually ever goes out and does research on an item before making a snap decision that it's garbage... Asked her if she thought the Samsung watch was garbage... Hmmm, no answer from her except to start extolling the greatness of Android...

People will think what they want... I know I'm glad to be an early adopter (had the first iPhone) - glad that I am able to be an early adopter.
And I'm happy as can be that I'm getting an AW!!!!:p
Yikes! I can't imagine talking like that to my close friends (telling them their purchases are a waste of money) but then my friends are a twitchy bunch.

I did look at the Android watches. And I went and tried on the Microsoft Band last night before stopping in and trying the Apple Watches. I can see what other people might see in those products but honestly, for myself, even if I were willing to switch to an Android phone, the wearables are not for me. In addition to being a very petite female, I'm left handed. The competition's designs just break too many straws on this camel's back.

Congrats on the change to your shipping status. Mine just changed, too. The pink sport for my sister in law and the 42 mm classic buckle for my husband are still processing, unfortunately.

Ty, for the congrats! And right back at ya!!!! Will be awesome once they arrive.

Yea, my buddy and I often tease each other (not in a mean or spiteful way) - but I was kinda taken aback by the comment... By the end of the evening though, she admitted she would reserve further judgement (lol) until she saw mine.

I looked at other wearables as well, but they just didn't seem to 'do it' for me. I'm 5'0 and love big watches, but some of them were too bulky. Have nothing against Android/Win - in fact, have owned/used devices (am a gadget freak - phones, laptops, tablets, etc.) from each. However, I continually always come back to Apple. And I do love the look of this watch.

You being a leftie - it's great that Apple took that into consideration and made it ambidextrous!
:D;):):apple::cool:

Apart from some Apple fans I know, most do not care. Even when I go past the Apple store daily, no one seems to care about the watches, people are drawn to other products in store.

No one I know is getting one, again, despite most having iPhones. But they totally expected me to get one as I'm a known fangirl. Buggered if I'm going to let them poke and prod it though. One explanation per group of friends and after that they can google!

I have some friends and family who are getting one.

If anyone told me they'd be "embarrassed" to own one, I'd question their personal priorities. It's a smart watch. What's embarrassing about owning a smart watch? It's not like you're required to wear them while nude. LOL.

Your friends are insecure.

Would you be embarrassed wearing a calculator watch ?

Nothing to do with being insecure to be honest. That is not the word you are looking for ;)

It's interesting, I'm sure people would be massively offended if they showed you their new mechanical watch and you said how bad it was / that it was a waste of money. As Apple emphasises, watches are incredibly personal. It's for that very reason that I really don't mind what my friends think.

Personally, I went for the stainless steel model with a white sports band for the gym and a link bracelet for work (I'm a lawyer, so try to look smart). I think the stainless steel model looks more like a piece of jewelry than a gadget. I think the sports model looks... sporty, but perhaps less appropriate for more formal occasions.

Even getting an Apple Watch was a big decision for me, because I've been wearing my grandpa's Omega since I was 18. It's beautiful.

In a way, it was. If I liked calculator watches, I should feel secure in wearing them and not care what other people think. ;)

Concur with your comment, bunnicula!

None of the folks I know are ordering one. A lot of my co-workers (I'm in IT) even said the :apple: watch is a waste of $$. I am a woman of a 'certain age' (lol), though, and as each year passes, I get even more comfy in my own skin. So it doesn't bother me what they think. Do I wish folks were more open-minded? Yes. But as long as what I'm doing with my money harms none (and may even help others in the form of charitable gifts) - it's no-one else's concern.

I love your perspective! I think my friends are clueless and they think I'm a nutter - it all evens out quite nicely! :D

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This holds true for those of us that have ordered the watch, and the others that see no use for it. It is just the way of things. I have met countless people with iPhones that have just the original apps that were installed on the phone when they bought it, and they claim how much they love it. I have always seemed to find way too many use cases of the things I buy than most people that I know. I know people that see me answer my iPhone with my Pebble watch, as the call is automatically routed to one of my Bluetooth headsets, and they have the same items, but never get to some of the uses that I have found to be invaluable to me. Every person will use things differently, but I can't wait to see all I will figure out how to do with the watch. I just hate having to constantly explain to people how I was able to what I do, and then they want me to show them how. Cest la vie. #
