On my iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple Intelligence is configured to use ChatGPT. When I asked Siri about the amount of RAM in iPad9, it couldn't provide an answer and remained silent. ChatGPT didn't activate.

However, when I asked the same question directly to ChatGPT via the app, it responded immediately with the correct answer.
I have done this same thing concerning another Apple device, with the same results.

Apple Intelligence is a three tier system.

1) Local on device model for super simple tasks.
2) Apple cloud for more complicated tasks.
3) Outsource to OpenAI (and eventually other providers too) for further complicated tasks.

It seems to be the first tier that Apple is having the most issues with, but I'm not sure. I think much of the Siri Apple Intelligence work would have to happen there.

In my experience, it would seem that entire tier collapses when certain queries are put forth.

AI for Apple may as well stand for Astoundingly Ineffective.

I have not followed the rumors on this device but I hope it comes with a camera. I want to put these all over my home and then be able to protect my face in every room like some dystopian nightmare to terrorize my family.

Weren’t they running ads showing the new recall feature? This is a communications mess, why is no one covering this?

I don’t have any smart home gadgets anyway so I can live without this. They need to focus on getting Apple AI working for iPhone before doing anything else.

If I were Apple I'd wait another year or 3 and make sure it's something really important enough to release. This likely means a full conversational LLM system.

How about a SiriOS on a consumer AI device with 2TB memory? There's a new techniques to use high density Flash memory instead of VRAM/DRAM for LLM. Sandisk just released high bandwidth Flash for this purpose. This could make a consumer friendly LLM system with a low price instead of the $10K for a full 512GB Mac Studio.

Cancelled. Now they want to put ads in Apple Maps 🤣
I was thinking about this. Apple working ads into maps is nothing but corporate/capital greed. NO ONE wants ads and Apple 1000% DOES NOT need that money at the expense of the infamous annoyance that are ads. They’re like the absolute richest company.

Now you could argue that, “they’re going to do something special with it” -and I’d say, yeah. They have to if they’re going to try.

But, like, come on. Just don’t mess with that, Apple. Please?

All that energy and fossil fuel needed to power AI….its almost as if the entire carbon neutral BS talking points have no meaning! 😂
It always had no meaning. They could save the planet millions of tonns of landfill by allowing their phones be repaired but they instead make it nearly impossible.

I work for a company that boasts about its green initiatives and yet buys fleets of new vehicles “because”. It’s incredibly wasteful.

Not sure whether Apple will delay it due to lack of improved Siri. It might be capable of doing only basic tasks in the beginning.

I really don't want a screen...EXCEPT in the kitchen when I tell the HomePod to set a timer. It'd be nice to glance at the timer instead of asking Siri how much time is left and another HomePod answering and telling me there's not timer set.

Staggering feature releases is infinitely better than single massive drops every year. I'm glad they push self-imposed deadlines when needed. I'd rather have polished features than janky ones.

I think the proper question is what does it mean for Apple and its entire product lineup that they’ve been heavily advertising Apple Intelligence as a selling point?
They are richer now than they were in June of 2024, and will be even richer by June of 2025. So, to answer your question, it means nothing.

They’ll probably release it with dumb Siri for now. The iPhone 16 proves they aren’t afraid to promise big and let customers down. As much as I want to believe they’re ‘waiting until they get it right’.

I don’t know. They barely got away with it. They just pulled some Siri ads because they realised they can’t keep promoting vapourware. The only correct thing to do is postpone this new command centre and wait until Siri is usable. We’ve been waiting since 2011. Another year won’t hurt anyone.

It means when they release this thing half baked promising future software updates to reach it is advertised features, you should not buy it.

That being said, I will probably buy it because it’s what I usually do.

We are 6 months from the release of the iPhone 17 range….
