The key post uses the argument-from-VisionPro angle to assert there will not be an M3 anything-else released before the VisionPro. I find that whole approach to be specious. The iPhone 15Pro already has the A17 chip which uses 3nm.

And iPhone sales volume is much, much greater than, say, that of the iMac. Hence lots of A17 chips are already rolling off the line.

Apple is a system integrator, yes, but it is also a major retail company. Do we really expect the iPhone 15 line to be the only shiny new product for Apple to push during the major shopping season (at least in the US)?

The iPad line needs to be rationalized. The iMac now seems like the odd-computer-out in the Apple stable. Both of these are consumer products meant to sell in the millions and I find it hard to believe that Apple is not going to go into the Christmas shopping season without at least a surface painting on both.

Not hardware, but I'd love before the end of the year for Final Cut Pro to go subscription pricing on the Mac like it is on iPad. Paying $5 a month, only the during the months I wind up using it just for fun, would save me a lot.

(What I'd actually like is for the Mac version to gain the option to pay via subscription, but not force people onto it. I.e. if you already own it, you own it. And if you want to buy it outright for $300 you could. But I could pay $20 and use it for four months too. One can dream.)

More hyperbole and general oh gosh it’s amazing

While regurgitating the same old tat , really it’s time we had a new ceo imo , someone with real vision and taste like Steve

Isn’t Tim up for retirement anyway ? He looks old enough

M3 will be used on the 1st Vision Pro. It will be marketed as a 'free' and 'unplanned' upgrade.

In truth it was planne d al a long and the deception was to avoid the Osborne Effect

Not for the reasons you pointed out.

iMac M2 before 2024 will not happen as it is 1 quarter before the scheduled M3 chip release. If it were to ever occur it should have done so with the Jan 2023 Mac mini M2 or even as late as the 25th anniversary of the iMac last month.

M3 needs to come out before a iPad Air M2 launches as the M2 is in the iPad Pro today.

As for "maximize revenue & profit" that applies to all businesses and to even professionals. Singling out Apple for this behavior is disingenuous.
But the M1 iPad Air came out before the M2 iPad Pro. So…it wouldn’t be unprecedented.

I mihgt be misong the mark here. But at least here in Europe there wikk be an IOS/Ipados/rvos update that enables sideliading. And tho Apple seams to want to sweep this one under the rug, the buzz on tech sites, including MR, seam to indicate thst there is a lot if exsitment about this at least in some circles. As for new hw, personally It's meh for me as I'm not looking for upgrades atm. Next in the list fir me will be an iPhone upgrade as soon as apple gets their 5G chip sorted

I don't really care about the keyboard or mouse, both have woven cables and USB C at the computer end, so no need to hurry to replace the other end with lightning when they work just fine for my needs apart from a mouse cant be used whilst charging of course. Also Apple know that there are millions of people still with lighting and USB A so they wont die just yet.

I can confirm that there is a 50% chance that Apple will release updated products during the remainder of this year and certainly next year and every year after that.

This larger iMac rumor just keeps dangling in front of us. I am waiting until end of October then purchasing a new laptop. No more games.

I doubt Apple will neglect the 25th anniversary of the iMac this year. The iconic product that laid the foundation for mac computers. When else but now...

So many of you are talking about a larger iMac. No, the problem with the existing iMac is that it is so ugly. And it's not me being subjective. I don't see any stylish boutiques or coffee shops using it, some even are keeping the Intel iMacs, not because of the size, but they look cheap and affect the image of the shop. So now Apple is in a big dilemma with the iMacs. Eventually they just have to bite the bullet and release one with a brand new design.

It’s entirely you being subjective.

And as many a pedant have pointed out, things like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion are not really AI to begin with.
They absolutely are. ChatGPT is just very useful to many use cases.

It's not "intelligent" but it is very good at language processing. Coding skills seem to have degraded since launch, or maybe my prompts have gotten sloppy, I don't know.

Anyway normal people using ChatGPT in their every day lives makes it the first real world AI application.
