Hmm that’s interesting. Never had a migraine until I was 54 and now I get migraines with aura. Always seem to be on my phone when they start, blind spots then the zig zags. Wonder if it’s Oled related.
A LOT of us have found out the hard way we have issues with how Apple implements it’s patented specs on the OLED displays. This thread is super long so I’d recommend maybe reading the first few pages then skipping to the last few pages, but it will give you an idea of what is going on: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/eye-strain-while-using-iphone-x.2085427/

This article is also informative.

The saddest anecdote for me was when a fellow forum member who has never had migraines got so sick he had to go to the ER.

My Pixel 2 display flickers a lot and gives me eye strain but no headaches or seizures. If I remember correctly, Apple goes down to the level of the sub pixels in the pentile arrangement and cycles them off and on in some sort of pattern, too. That makes the flicker worse somehow. Maybe there’s multiple patterns of flickering going on simultaneously. I don’t know. That information doesn’t seem to be publicaly available. Just this bit of information I just shared was in one source I ran across once. I linked to it in that thread but I don’t have it on hand anymore. It was just a few sentences of information in a longer article about other things.

Anyway, I don’t want to derail this topic too much more so I’ll discuss it more in the linked thread when I get my phone.

Turn it on. Ive been getting the 3G since launch day, and the only one to never turn on was the iPhone 5. It still haunts me to this day of having it happen again lol.

Animoji/Memoji, because I haven't had a phone with these features yet. Or maybe FaceID. Or maybe the multiple camera system. Who knows!? So many new features for me!

Check out color/finish (Space Grey)
Cameras (wide angle differences)
Face ID angles/speed
Night mode on camera
Check out loss of 3D Touch
Admire the larger screen (going from X to Pro Max)
Check out the general thickness compared to my X
I look forward to seeing how long the battery lasts.

I'm curious about this also. Apple said it will be 30% faster, and work at greater distances and angles, but they did not really quantify the last part
I think their claim comes from iOS 13. I’m beta testing it now and I can unlock from more angles, etc, so I’m not sure what extra benefit Face ID will have on the 11.

30% sounds like a fake feature, or just a massive coincidence as ios 13 itself also improves speed by 30%!

Edit: Covered above. Didn’t notice more angles on X though, not that I tried.

Regarding PWM. Apple displays have used same frequency as Samsung in past, and this year the displays are meant to be even more stock to Samsung than before (or other suppliers, but less custom anyway). So here is PWM info for Note10+

If you honestly believed it was 'just a phone', you wouldn't have purchased an 11 series iPhone. There are 'just phones' out there for well under a hundred dollars, and even cheaper if you can deal with one that's connected to your wall jack.

Like all of us, you purchased the 11-series iPhone because it is so insanely, ridiculously beyond anything a phone was ever imagined to be, that the term 'phone' is a hilariously anachronistic misnomer for the device; it's a super computer in your pocket. It's a device capable of doing thousands of wondrous things, most of which would've been deemed impossible in this day and age, even just a couple of decades ago. One of the most trivial things it does is act as a phone.

It's akin to calling an Aston Martin DB11 a cup-holder. Yes, one of the things it can do is hold cups, but really it's designed to do so, so much more, and do it amazingly.

If someone purchased an 11-series iPhone and considers it 'just a phone', they spent way, way, waaaaay too much. Find an altec flip-phone for $20 ... that's just a phone.
Hey man if that’s how you justify spending £1000+ on a phone that’s ok, I don’t need to justify it, I like nice things even if it is just a phone.

FaceID. I’ve never had it before (coming from an iPhone 8), so I can’t wait to try it out :D

It is pretty great, touchID for some reason never worked for me, must have sweaty fingers haha, so it was a blessing when faceID came out.

Not gunna lie, I love TouchID, it has always worked well for me. Kinda bummed it doesn’t feature any more on the new phones, but I’m sure I’ll get used to FaceID and like it just as much.

unbox
put on screen protector
put in sim
put on case
put on charge
setup
go through checks: camera (and all lenses including front), GPS, data & internet, 3D game and normal calls
start thinking about iphone 12 in 2020 :D

I’m going to throw it in my pool to check the water resistance then maybe check the 6’ drop test with a case on my concrete patio and then on my granite tile floor. It’s going to be exciting.

I am upgrading from an iPhone 7 Plus. So the first thing I do is to try the dual-SIM functionality and play around the settings. Also that this year I pre-ordered it from Hong Kong, so it will be supporting physical dual-SIM not eSIM+nanoSIM.

It's weird with faceID, you kind of forget it's there as it works so well (for me that is). I have used the fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 7 Pro and it worked brilliantly, if Apple can do something similar along with faceID I'd love it.

First thing I'm gunna do when I take it out of the box is a 6 ft drop test over concrete. The second thing I'm gunna do after that is drop it down a flight of cement stairs to see how durable the new glass is.
The swimming pool test will then follow

Are you my wife when she gets a new phone?!

I think first thing everyone will do is show off to facebook kkkk :D

1. inspect for finger prints and blemishes of any kind
2. turn on display and inspect for dead pixels in all 3 RGB channels
3. inspect for light leaks
4. inspect for any debris trapped under the glass screen
5. check the seams of the casing to ensure adhesive is not coming out
6. apply screen protector and case
7. ask Lando Calrissian to put the phone in carbonite so it stays perfect
