Stuff like this makes me laugh. Guess having a $50K limit on the CC has its bennies.
How about you make a couple of payments towards your CC before they place that charge against it so you dont have to worry. Or, uh, dont by the $700 one.

You know the limits are income based, not based on how responsible you are. Someone with a recurring $45k balance could have a $50k limit card.

I have a few $20k limit cards but I don't keep balances. Certain times, I've wanted to make a purchase so had to make sure that I paid my monthly payment early. It is hard for me to remember when I had a card with less than a $1k limit but in thinking that, I had to check my own privilege. I would suggest that you check yours too.

read ha.

Apple still charges your credit card and you get a nice little note from your bank that says you over charged and gives you a nice little fee for doing that. You should pay off some of your credit or ask for a credit increase.

Well I preordered the watch as soon as it became available, and I had 890$ enough credit to purchase it and now my order is processing. And tonight, I went to go check my account summary of my card that I used to buy the apple watch and it's saying $770... Is my order gonna get cancelled and lose my place in line or ?!?!

I am in the camp that believes this watch is more of a luxury or expensive toy to have. But it's not a necessity. If someone has to juggle their money around to purchase it. That may be a sign that the watch is not for them.
You know what they say "if you have to put it on credit to buy it, you can't afford it"

Make a payment.

The OP asks a fair question about Apple's billing policies. Many of the replies end up trying to give him personal financial advice, or straight up criticism.

Sure it's a public forum and you have the right, but you all sound like jerks for doing so. Get off the high horse.

Thank you.

OP? Make a payment on your card to give yourself a bit of a cushion.

If your credit line simply vanished, you should be contacting your bank to see why, though.

I think maybe paying down your card is your best bet. The bank shrunk your credit because something is wrong.

Yeah… seriously. God forbid people would want to actually give advice to prevent someone from making a big mistake. What a bunch of jerks!

Why does everyone assume the OP is using a credit card. He/she said "credit available" but could have meant balance without using the term correctly. More info is needed. If you don't have enough balance in your bank account, it depends on your bank's policies how they treat it. Either way, you risk overdraft charges.

And before anyone says it's irresponsible to use up their checking account, it could just be the OP is a high school student using the money they earned working a summer or after school job.

OP: Best advice is get your hands on some money and get it into your bank account or credit card ASAP.

I'd certainly hope he wouldn't be flushing his checking account balance to make a purchase. He's talking about "available credit" on his cc card.

Do you really think your helping him here? Is your name Suze Orman?

I don't see any brilliant nuggets of advice here, just the usual "Captain Obvious" stuff like "it doesn't sound like you can afford the watch". But hey, if dolling out criticism to make yourself feel like you did something kind for a stranger is your thing, it's a free country.

Don't do it man, get a pebble and eat right

Who knows if he takes the advice or not? He may have been really stretching but when a couple of people question it, he changes his mind and saves the money. Can't hurt if you see something so obvious to push in a certain direction.
As for the 2nd question, I'm not Suze Orman, but we both have the same taste in women and investing. ;)

Ignoring the irony of calling anyone out for "advising" or telling someone else what to do, while you're basically doing the same thing to those who have said something about his finances.

The people here giving "financial advice" are not jerks. They are right. This country has a terrible debt problem even on the personal level. Telling someone to ask for their credit line to be increased to finance a WATCH is just downright irresponsible. You post publicly you are going to get comments from the public.

How about not buying stuff we can't afford? What if you lose your job tomorrow? Is that watch going to make your mortgage payment? Your credit card payment? Feed you?

I'll never understand people that max credit cards out for frivolous purchases.

In regards to the above Suze Orman question I do follow Dave Ramsey, gives good advice some people should read his book.

They're also irrelevant because they're assuming the OP is fiscally irresponsible. This thread is not about fiscal responsibility.

Start another thread about that and title it appropriately so people can avoid it if they're not interested. It's only considerate

Exactly. The OP didn't ASK for financial advise. If he had (and in some threads, people actually do), then it's different. But he didn't, so the replies telling him to rethink his financial priorities are just rude. Finances are a very personal matter, which is why folks should tread lightly on the topic. We don't know anything about him, so it's also presumptuous.

But clearly some folks feel it's their god-given right and responsibility to dole out said advice at every opportunity, as a way to "fix America", one post at a time. Well, good luck with that.

The watch costs $890. OP only has $770 and is most concerned that his watch order will be cancelled. Clearly, he is fiscally irresponsible.

OP will not be receiving a watch and I'm happy about it.

As long as he can afford the monthly payments you are in no position to tell him what he should or shouldn't do.

Monthly payments LOL.

People who are smart with money ask "how much?" People who aren't ask "how much per month?"

What happens if you don't have enough credit to buy the watch?

No, not a dumb comment. It's smarter to be able to purchase something outright than pay interest monthly. Being able to afford the monthly payments on a CC debt still means you're living beyond your means.

Ever bought an expensive price of furniture, like a leather sofa?
