Fortunately my G4PB12” upgrade went seamlessly, using the ifixit guide (and very welcome help from peeps on this forum)….. 😁. My HDD had died after non-use for many years, so it needed doing to resurrect it.
I’ve had three, this one was actually my second, a 867mhz that also had a hdd on the way out. I had made the upgrade on my first with a m2/white enclosure without issue (which now lives in an ibookg4 lol) and it went perfectly like yours did. I am not totally sure how I pulled the lead connector off my second one. I have a nice grabber/pincher tool for this effort and I’m thinking maybe I somehow hooked it under the plug itself & off it came hah.

That could probably be repaired without much trouble, and I think the 12" PowerBook is worth the effort.

Part of me thinks so too and is another reason I have held onto it. If I did the repair, I’m thinking to move the connector out by puting the male connector itself on some leads soldered to the logic board so it’s easy to get to and removes the stress to the board connections. The kicker is if there is enough space to accommodate the added wire as those PB4 12s are cramped.

This will be what happens to mine, I don't doubt. Surprised how well this one works, to be honest. And yes, the iFixit guide will be what I use also.

I'm currently looking into how/if I can sync my calendar from my Mac mini server (the built-in Nextcloud calendar) to iCal on my G5. I'll try to report back later if I have any success on this.

@JackAHyde, this sparks a related question in my mind. I have been looking for a way to sync the calendar on my Samsung Fold6 to my Mac Studio's Calendar. I have tried a variety of solutions, but so far I have not hit on the magic formula to make this work.

Does anyone know how to sync the Samsung mobile calendar with the macOS calendar?

Updating time. Throughout kindergarten my daughter used my old iBook G3 in her favourite color – orange – to play some interactive disney storybooks from macintoshgarden. Now she's in school and got an upgrade to my old 12" PowerBook G4. While both laptops are old by todays standards I really felt the difference using them side by side, almost like back in 2003. :) The G4 definitely feels much more like a modern machine than the G3. Also ... no more disney princess wallpaper, now she's into KPop Demon Hunters.

Sidenote ... the G4 with its original spinning hd boots just as fast as my 2019 mbp with ssd ...

I do have to wonder how she uses it in school… I was never able to access sophisticated websites on Aquafox for uni.

I didn't get a chance to reply with anything yesterday because I had work all day and I was buzzed last night, but for what it's worth, I wasn't able to get anything working as I had hoped. There are several hoops to jump through that I can't quite pull off, like running a specific app on the G5 that requires a specific version of Java and still fails to run after I install it.

Anyway, good luck getting the Samsung mobile calendar to sync in that scenario.

What did I do with a PowerPC today? I wrote my HOA's weekly newsletter on it and created the publication proofs that our management company needs in order to publish. I *love* working on my Sorbet Leopard G5 Quad! I find the user experience SO superior to that of my Monterey Mac Studio.

What else did I do with a PowerPC today? I prepared several of my HOA's governing documents for publication, converting the Word originals to Postscript and then, via Adobe Distiller, from Postscript to PDF. Adobe Acrobat Professional and Adobe Distiller are both available abandonware for PPC Leopard, a fact that makes my G5 Quad my favorite document preparation platform.

The thing that is demonstrated here is that the "abandonware" available for 10.5 Leopard is still hugely functional and highly relevant, even 20 years later. Mixing my machines slightly, don't pursue dubious eye candy like liquid/floating glass (and the like) and instead pursue functionality. Dollar for dollar, a G5 Leopard system will almost certainly outperform a more recent machine, where you have to PAY for the functionality that has been abandoned but is still alive and well on Leopard at no cost. Think about it!

I expressed similiar sentiments here:

It's amusing to follow on in that thread and see how 'lively' discussions used to get :)
