Best looking is the 5s...the final iteration of the ip4 design.

Best iPhone overall would be the 6s/+...it's the last iPhone that had the 3.5mm jack and the charging port.

Well, it does actually have antenna bands and the 8/8 Plus are actually really similar. They just have an entire glass back instead of a strip at the top and bottom.

That's true, but the way the 5/SE did/does it looks better to me than the 6/7/8 series.

The best iPhone is always the most recent. It’d be pretty bad if a new iPhone was inferior to its predecessor.

But in terms of which was best at the time of its release, it’s hard to say.
Maybe the 5s. It introduced TouchID and a 64-bit processor that allowed for pretty substantial performance improvements over its predecessor, and it is still operating well with the current OS, 4 years after its release. The 5s is still a pretty decent smartphone.

Going from a 3GS to a 4 was mind blowing. I’ve never had that feeling again!

It was a massive paradigm shift in smartphone design. It was less 90's Sony and more of something you would see in MOMA. The precision, symmetry and materials were unrivaled at the time.

When Steve Jobs first revealed it, I instantly was reminded of Horwitt's iconic Museum Watch design. (though Steve compared it to an old Leica camera).

For its time I would say, without a doubt, the iPhone 4. This phone was way ahead of the competition which was still trying to catch up with the original iPhone.

In second place I would say the iPhone 6. I know most people will disagree but in my opinion, even if it wasn’t a revolutionary product (like the iPhone 4 was) it finally gave what people wanted for a very long time in an iPhone : a bigger display. Plus it did it in a elegant package. Yeah I know antenna lines were ugly as **** but the phone itself was very thin, light and the rounded corners made it more comfortable to hold. Also it set the standard for the iPhone design for four consecutive iterations and maybe even more, time will tell.

That said, my favorite one was the iPhone 5, especially in that gorgeous Slate color.

Design wise for me it's a toss up between the 4 4s and the 5 5s. The 4 when it came out was pretty amazing, glass back stainless steel sides, after the plastic 3g and 3gs the build quality seemed in a different league, and of course the retina screen, overnight it made every other screen resolution look like the 1980s. The 5 5s and of course the SE felt like a sleek refinement of the 4, it was lighter and had that sexy aluminium back and the extra screen size did make a difference from the 4 in use, my white iPhone 5 was my favorite phone so far.
My 6+ is a great phone but it's a tool and I don't enjoy the look, weight and size of it, but they are worthwhile trade offs for the bigger screen most of the time.

An iPod....a phone....and an internet communicator.

An iPod....a phone....are you getting it?

Man I don’t know how anyone could say anything but the first iPhone. Revolutionary and still sends chills down my spine watching that keynote.

Of course the iPhone 4 would be a close second. Sexiest design ever created.

Man the way Steve Jobs said they and then the crowd catching on. Before all the leaks. Great times

the original iphone. it was a new experience. alot of room for improvement on the software side, but a great beginning.

afterwards the iphone 4. the display made it feel like a new experience again.

it's a bit sad to see, that many people seem to be concentrating on design only. but it's no surprise, since every iphone that doesn't bring a new design is instantly a disappointment to alot of people here..

best iphone ever released was the 5S in REAL black.

when it started chipping paint, that was too bad, but as a release phone - that one was the one to get.

iPhone 5s hands down, in my book, and by extension, the SE:

Iconic styling, amazing internals, TouchID and the last real iPhone SJ ever made.

In terms of design I'd say the iPhone 5s/SE (since they share 99% of the design), although the iPhone 4/4s come close as well. iPhone 8 (Plus) would be at the third place, because it kinds reminds of the iPhone 4/4s. Then the iPhone 7 comes in at fourth place, followed by the iPhone 5.

Among the worst ones are the iPhone 6 (Plus) and 6s (Plus), for the positioning of that camera alone. Although the antenna lines didn't look nice either. The iPhone 5c looked bad as well. The iPhone X is a difficult one. It could be one of Apple's better designs, if they'd at least change the software so that the status bar blends in with that notch.

My list would look like this:
  1. iPhone 5s/SE
  2. iPhone 4/4s
  3. iPhone 8 (Plus)
  4. iPhone 7 (Plus)
  5. iPhone 5
  6. iPhone X
  7. iPhone 6 (Plus)/6s (Plus)
  8. iPhone 3G/3GS
  9. iPhone (1st generation)
  10. iPhone 5c
Hope I didn't forget one, haha. 😛

For me the original was just cool even if not perfect -- and I owned a few Palmphones before that that I enjoyed. It changed phones and how we interact with phones, even contributing to the death of the HomePC. It has be #1. If it was a clunker we would even be having this conversation. iPhone 4, antenna-gate and all, was the iPhone that really satisfied me the most. The 6 is a close third -- after the 6 I could never go back to a smaller screen.

3G/GS just filled in the 3G hole missing from the original. The 5/5s was a "were not quite ready for a bigger screen phone yet." Meh. 7, 8 are just enhanced 6es. X is a novelty right now. In a few years it will be noted as the first of a new generation of iPhones. Hopefully by then its ears will be clipped.

In terms of significance:
iPhone 3G
OG iPhone
iPhone 4
iPhone 10
iPhone 5S

In terms of Best looking
Gold iPhone 5S
Space Gray iPhone 10
Black iPhone 4
Silver iPhone 5
Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus
