No, if I wanted to do that I'd use an excruciatingly large amount of belladonna and force my eyes and mind to like the current state the visuals are in. :p

Hah! I'm still using whatever the not-dark-mode is called. I like your new avatar in that light, it's like a preview of Halloween. Does it glow in the dark in dark mode? :D

In truth I sort of like all the default avatars now, they lend a sort of cheery decor to PRSI while I scroll through threads over there...

It's the lack of subtle contrast that's jarring to me. Though I'm seeing small changes here and there every other day. Having done large upgrades like this, albeit for larger and busier boards, it isn't very easy even if you have a large paid technical support team working 24 hours around the clock. Though an in-place upgrade is easier than changing platforms which require work weeks if not months ahead depending on the complexity of the origin site.

I thought I posted it in some thread here, but we went to the 3 From Hell (via Fathom Events) 1 (of three nights only) last week. Really fun experience, we didn't get the poster we were supposed to, __but__ they're supposed to be sending us two :D Did you know Sid was very recently in the hospital? Not doing too good, in fact, even a year or so ag he'd been having lots of medical issues (the reason Richard Brake sort of "replaced" his role in the movie).

That sounds like a ton of fun, and the poster looks good! I've yet to see 3 From Hell, but it's on the list for films to seek out in the near future.

Yeah, I heard about Mr. Haig being hospitalized, a bummer for sure. Then again, he's getting up there in years, so that kind of thing isn't really unexpected. Still unfortunate, though.

My avatar is a picture of Captain Spaulding (portrayed by Sid Haig), a patriarch of the Firefly family that features in the filmic universe created by Rob Zombie for the films House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and 3 From Hell.

Why is it my avatar? Because the character is great, and I have great respect for Mr. Haig as an actor. Another reason is that I like clowns, even maniacal ones. Also, I didn't give much thought to the process of choosing the avatar when I joined.
I am sure you have heard Sid passed away on Saturday.😢 Gutted about it. He was a great actor, and a very nice man according to all who met him. I never had the chance myself.

Here if you want to vent, just PM me.

He was the best and creepiest fictional clown to ever be on screen.

Keep rocking that avatar.

Three from Hell is due on blu on October 15th. There will be one more screening in the States on Monday the 14th.

My avatar is a combo... the yellow eyes and red skin come from a cut of "Space Adventure Cowboy" Used on Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend: The Superdeformed CD

Just the eye part was my avatar for quite a while (I even animated it when I was younger and had free time).

The black 'mask' is a quick crop of the black ninjago lego guy, because ... well because it provided a nice rectangle for my old avatar to fit into and not look completely dumb. ;)

Those first three tracks of off Matthew Sweet's album Girlfriend, are one of the best hat tricks of guitar/alt/pop: Divine Intervention, I've Been Waiting, Girlfriend ... !

Mine is a pic of my late beloved soul dog, Buddy. He was still alive when I switched to it, And I used to switch avatars every so often, but I can’t quite bring myself to change it now.

Since I know everyone is champing at the bit to see more, here’s more of my photogenic boy. 💔

Well this just hit me like a brick. I've been working pretty much non stop since Friday, so no, I wasn't aware of his passing, or much of anything else that's happened in the world since Friday morning.

Very sad news indeed, and thank you very much for your generous offer.

I had an avatar of a seagull on top of a "no seagull" sign for the longest time which I got from another poster on another forum I occasionally frequent.

Swtiched out a few until settling on this on, the symbol of the Survey Corps from the Attack on Titan anime. I had watched the first season back in 2013 and really liked it then forgot about it (I have not read the manga) until a spoiler on youtube this summer informed me there was a second and third season which I have just watched. Really impressed how what started as a simple variation on the zombie apocalypse turned by the end of the 3rd season into something more complex and actually more frightening, while having good character development and writing and plot development. Season 4 coming next fall, as there is a manga (the author works closely with the anime producers though) so have to be wary of spoilers - no watching youtube reviews etc.

In upgraded from a 7 Plus to the 11 Pro Max and discovered memoji, so I created one.

There isn’t an “old man” skin tone or the option to add gray to my facial hair. AirPods because I almost always have them in. Hat because I’m always outside and I’m required to wear anything that keeps the sun off my head, ears and neck as I’m healing from my second bout with a small spot of skin cancer.

Mine is Sirfetch'd of the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield game. I just like the design of it holding a lance and a shield made of leek and it didn't really disappoint. Farfetch'd have been waiting for 8 generations to get its evolution and it's finally here. It reminds of patience, that time will come that you'll be recognized and get the love you deserve.

Memoji. It's unique and cool. Before that, I used a picture of the Apple logo.

I spent 21 years in the Army and 20 of those years were with Special Forces/Special Operations. It required a high standard of mental and physical requirements and has helped me in the civilian security business. The avatar is to remind of that standard.

I was trying some different shapes and shades, and decided to go with something that looks similar to the tiny icon that appears below a user's avatar showing they're online right now. Users have the option of turning it off, so it may not appear.

When it does appear, it's pretty small (16x16). Here's a magnified screenshot, in all its pixelated glory:

Screen shot 2019-10-08 at 2.36.10 PM.png

That was captured with my previous avatar (light green with dark circle).

I decided I like a contrasting border, so I went with a medium gray one this time. I'll probably play around with it more, maybe even add some seasonal coloration.

To make this avatar, I modified the PDF-generator I use to graph statistics, and used that to output a PDF file. For those modifications, I had to experiment with drawing closed multi-spline curves, and setting a clipping path. Massive over-engineering, but I get some nice additions to my PDFer out of it.

My avatar's a blithely ignorant crunchdown of a pixellated blowup of a screenshot of a jpg.

"Massive over-engineering without skills or tools will do it every time" is my motto. 👷‍♀️

I appreciate your support of my boredom relief efforts. Moving errant threads to the Catalina forum isn't much of an engineering (or moderation) challenge.

It's good to know that over-engineering is welcomed for its own merits. I might try rigging something up with my Porter-Cable router, a Raspberry Pi, an old Technics turntable, and a pumpkin.
