I will have to agree with this. Surprisingly the GS3 feels better in a pocket than the iphone b.c its shape and thinness. Yes, it is longer and wider, but it sits very flat.

Since the GS3 is 16x9, it is more practical to have a 4.8" screen. A phone that is 3:2 shouldn't get much bigger than 4.3-4.4" IMO.

The biggest issue for me with the new iPhone. Making it only taller feels cheap to me. 16:9 doesn't look bad at all on my GS3... but it does on the new iPhone because there is sooo much more bezel above and below the screen on the iPhone. Which makes it too long and awkward IMO. (Thankfully, they at least decreased it from roughly 0.7" down to 0.6")

I think OP, that some younger customers like a larger screen so it can be used as their main computer needs that is mobil. For me, not so. I like the iPhone 4S or the up coming iphone 5 screen size and would never purchase a wider screen cell phone. I to have large hands but the wider screen phones do not feel comfortable at all. Glad Apple see's it that way :p :D

The iphone has a solid feel as well. Not cheap plastic that is light in weight like the other Android phones.

on that same note, when I was at home with a laptop next to me, I would still use the S3 b.c the combination of size and LTE. With my iphone 4S, I always grab for the laptop. LTE may change that, but the size of the S3 definitely played a major role and if you just use a laptop for surfing the web or light computing the bigger smartphones could replace it.

If people want bigger screens then let them be. I prefer screen sizes in the 4"-4.3" range. I've tried the larger ones and they're usually just too big for practical use.

My phone has a 4.3" screen, and it's great and all, but I'd still prefer something a little bit smaller.

Whenever I think I'm used to this phone, I go and grab one of my old phones, and it just reminds me of how big this one is.

For me personally, I think 4" will be my sweet spot, so I'm really looking forward to the phone being released so I can actually try it out.

The iphone has a solid feel as well. Not cheap plastic that is light in weight like the other Android phones. Since there are so many phones of different sizes, those that like it wider can go to them right now, and not bother coming to an iPhone and bad mouth it. Apple will not change for them as has been shown. Thank goodness..

I agree that the iPhone feels solid and that a lot of Android phones feel cheap.

The GS2 felt really cheap to me... yet, the GS3 does not feel that way by comparison... My iPhone feels more solid, but the GS3 has come to make me dislike my 4S... but I prefer iOS over Android ten fold... and I prefer the Apple Ecosystem.

And the fact that I am using one of the "flagship" Android phones right now, yet it still doesn't have the most current operating system (and how long it took for the GS2 to get Ice Cream Sandwich) bothers the hell out of me.

This is a situation where I probly can't have my cake and eat it too. Hopefully, the new iPhone brings that satisfaction... COME ON SEP 12... stop taking so long.

That pic just reminded me how bad the GS3 screen is...and it's a dinner platter

Seriously. Troll harder.

My s3's screen looks nothing like that. They ****ing put the brightness all the way to the bottom.

Its like when 9to5mac(biggest troll site ever. Makes me want to punch myself in the face with how severe they troll) did a side by side pic of the s3 and iphone 4s. They photoshopped it so that both phones had the same dimensions size wise. Pathetic.

My S3 fits well in my pockets. Even better than my iphone4. Its flat and evenly proportioned.

The s3 is a plate? I have small hands and still the s3 fits fine in my hands. The iphone feels like a toy.

Either you have baby hands or blindly trolling.

Most likely the 2nd option.

The funniest thing about this site is the newbies who joined recently and are blindly praising apple.

Meanwhile other people who have joined this forum years ago are being called fandroids because we defend android products.

Yeah because many years ago we decided to join an apple forum and troll for the hell of it.

No its because we woke the F up.

Its like when Nas released hiphop is dead. All these ****ing newbies jumped down his throat because he bashed hiphop.

No, hes a veteran and woke the F up and realized something was wrong.

Seriously. I just don't get this whole obsession about having a bigger screen.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a comically unwieldy oversized screen and it sells like hotcakes, and I tried one out and it was abysmal. I have large hands and I could not even remotely use the thing with any ease at all.

The iPhone's size was specifically designed and tested to be the biggest phone you could use with one hand. It's very simple to use and you can text with it with one hand without even looking at the screen.

Why would I want something that has almost twice the area and barley fits into my hand:

Or my pocket.

Do people really enjoy using something that's so comically large or are they just lacking in sense and forward thinking?

Comically large eh? I used to think that way about the Galaxy Note when I saw it. Thought it was the stupidest thing I have seen ever. UNTIL I bought a GS3. A phone which I can quite easily use one handed if I choose to (even though I have small girly hands).

OP, to answer your question. I use my phone for almost everything when I am out and about and I can honestly tell you that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the screen size. The smallest I would tolerate is 4.65 if given a choice. You make it sound that people who Think they need a bigger screen don't know any better according to the world of YOU. If there wasn't the need for variety in viewing experiences, porn flicks would never be as successful as they are. That's all I am sayin! Yes, sometimes bigger IS better.

something I've also noticed on my one x when compared to my iphone is that text is the same size. Sure there is more on screen, so less scrolling, but the text is the same size, so I dont get why people say they cant read the small text on the iphone so they want a bigger screen.

Don't hate me because I was blessed with large man hands... :p

This is partially true, but since there is more content on the screen to start with, if you zoom in small increments, you still have more content to view on the screen.

Oh and you don't need man hands to handle the S3, just need to be brave when handling that much techno-meat! LOL!!!

For me and the way I use a smartphone, 3.5" is just too small, when I use the iphone 4 I gave to the kids I am always anoyed its just too small. Eyesight, big hands whatever I dont feel it comfortable serious use.

As for the size itself, lets not overreact, its 2cm larger and 1 cm wider, if you dont have that much "extra" room in your pocket, you wear really skinny/small jeans.

And yes people do enjoy it more then an 3.5", comicly? There is barely any difference so no (but the word use does say a lot about you) "lacking in sense and forward thinking" ? yes an imac 27" is "lacking in sense and forward thinking" because its too big for some desks . Why did we ever increase from the 17"?

a lot of people like a bigger screen, especially when they might have been using the same sized one since the iPhone first came out.
same thing that makes you question is, makes them want it.

I've never noticed that, but that's actually a good point. Now I get the whole obsession with bigger even less.

Larger screen + increased pixel count = more screen real estate. You said it yourself right there, less scrolling. That's because more content can be viewed on the screen at once. That's why I want the larger, higher resolution screen, not because I want each letter on the screen to be the size of a dime.

Other cell phones that meet your needs. Just leave and go there. Be happy, join their forums. Apple is not going to give you wider.....Period ! :D Got it people. Not going to happen. Stop whining

I suspect some people responding to those polls wanting a bigger screen is because they think it will make viewing easier, thinking bigger screen = bigger text. And then they get a new phone and see that things look as tiny as it did on a smaller phone and can't understand why, such as my sister. I gave up trying to explain to her why things look just as small on the big screen. She avoided the iPhone all these years strictly because of the small screen.

Larger screen + high pixel count (e.g. Galaxy S3 4.8" 1280x720) = more space to fit more text on the screen at once. Things also look sharper.

Larger screen + low pixel count (eg Galaxy S2 4.3" 800x480) = less viewing text on the screen at once but much bigger text. Things look blurry.

Smaller screen + highish pixel count (iPhone 4 3.5" 960x640) = somewhere between the above, and things look very sharp. This smaller screen actually gives more space than the S2's 800x480 screen.

Some people, such as my sister, can't understand that.

Nas sucks about as bad as Common, who cares if they've been around forever... and yes the screen on the GS3 looks bad. It's dark even on full blast; Everything is neon. Clarity is so so.

If you want to see a good looking android screen, look at the HTC One X. GS3 just looks bad...even worse than hacks like Nas.

why do they make bigger cars? why do they make smaller cars?

Apple= one size fits all and not everyone likes that

I have a few friends that have big phones bc they use them for everything pretty much besides the computer. They don't own iPad's or other tablet's. Apple forces you to use the small phone and if you want something bigger you have to buy an iPad.

Other companies see that there are people that don't want a small iphone AND have to carry around a 2nd device like an iPad. Why carry 2 when you can carry 1?

If car companies took apple's approach, all you would see are compact cars and nothing else on the road.

People have different needs and wants. Choice is good. Just because you don't want a bigger screen OP doesn't mean no one else does.

Like another poster said, because I do. Get over it. Some do some don't and I'm 100% certain Apple has a great marketing research team to see which way is the best to go with their device.

The S3 screen and phone isn't that big! You must be the size of a kid if you can't fit it in your pocket. Hell, I wear skinny jeans and can fit it in mines.

I agree about the added real estate. I was talking about people complaining about text size.

My main concern would be the size being too bulky for pants and shorts. If that isn't a downside, I think I would prefer a bigger phone.

I think bigger screens are better, which is why I spend more time on my iPad than on my iPhone when I am around the house.

My Galaxy Nexus is awkward to use one handed occasionally. I love the screen size to look at though, nice color. We'll see about the new iphone, hopefully 4 inches feels like enough.

I want more viewing space for games, movies, texting, and also another row of home screen apps will come in handy.
