Christmas dinner- Cornish game hens, mashed potatoes, pecan brandy corn bread stuffing, cooked carrots and home baked rolls.

Dinner was simple, yet tasty: Scrambled eggs (free range, organic, to which sea salt, a few twists of black pepper, and a few dessertspoons of organic, double cream were added, all whisked together before being added to the sauté pan, Italian, copper, in which butter had already melted) and toasted (French) rye bread.

It’s really not hard to make.

The hardest part might be finding the lamb (depending on your location), but you can swap it for beef or even pork (I know, blasphemy) and it’s just a cottage pie. Same thing just no sheep.
I can easily cook a shepard's pie, but you taste more than the food, when it is served at a place you are fond of.

Agree completely; and when it is a place that you are fond of, where the staff are decent and very good, the atmosphere welcoming, and they are exceptionally skilled at preparing the dishes that they serve, then, it is a pleasure to visit (and a pleasure to anticipate your visit).
 
Eh, maybe. I find I'm far more likely to enjoy eating at home if it's a dish I can even attempt to make.
Totally agree on that one, most of my home cooked meals are better than anything at a restaurant and I get the fun of cooking it and being home too, haha, there are some exceptions I suppose although right now I can't think of a single one.

For me, there are exceptions, which is why, when I am dining out (unfortuantely, for well known reasons, not an experience I have been able to enjoy in a year) - and I am someone who loves fine dining, preferbly with like-minded friends - I will usually order stuff, dishes, meals, - that I would never cook for myself.

That's mostly how I used to order when I lived in Australia. Here, it's still generally that concept (a lot of local places will have a few token western dishes on the menu... I've learned to generally avoid them), with the addition of "things I could cook at home, if it weren't a PITA to find the ingredients locally".
