Medical or Phd?

That's one of my minor peeves; do people not know that the word physician is the technical term for an "MD?"

</rant>

Anyways, my current job is a student and part time editor for a note service.

Future career is lawyer, and my dream would be to practice appellate law. I'd also like to be an appellate judge at some point or another, but I highly doubt a non-white, gay, atheist is going to make it anytime soon.

Dream job = masseur or running a coffee & tea shop. Maybe both under the same roof?

I want to be an owner of a cafe, the sort where people comes in to read, spend time sitting around. preferably in a small town where the pace of life is much slower than what I have now.

Lifelong student

Seriously, if I had the money I think bumming around universities for the rest of my life taking various classes would be cool....well till I hit 40 and everyone starts whispering about that creey guy who has been an undergrad the past 20 years:eek:

I am on track to do my dream job: medical doctor.

Of course, I could be picky:

1. I want to practice in a small town
2. I want to practice in a small town with no crime
3. I want to make enough money to build and design my own home
4. I want to have a four-day work week, 4 x 12 hour shifts
5. I want to take a 3-week vacation each year to a new place
6. I want to live in a scenic area to whet my photographic appetite
7. I want to have enough time to volunteer without feeling cramped

Maybe these things will happen, maybe they won't. In any case, on track to doing the dream job (although there is MUCH about it that is neither glamorous nor dreamy, considering the current state of health care).

You should consider working in French Polynesia... They need a lot of doctors and nurses, and you'd get points 1,2,3,5,6 for sure

My dream career would be working on advanced artificial intelligence at a leading research institute, or working on kernel / low level systems programming at Apple, IBM or Sun. Or maybe a physics engine developer for a company dedicated to realistic simulation (perhaps new games engines?).

Yeah, I'm a geek.

Checks dictionary.app, it is appropriate for both uses and in fact the word physician is not really used in the UK at all, we call them doctors and they call themselves doctors. In America do they use the prefix Dr.

That would be a pretty cool shop, would they be drinking at the same time.:)

As an aside I would also like to open an art gallery in Bath.

I'm going to work for the DOJ. Currently, I don't work for the DOJ. ;) But I do get to do similar work and I don't have to carry a gun.

Good point! Many physicians here have encouraged me to consider medical schools in Grenada, Australia, England, etc. The longer I live, the more it seems America continues to embarrass itself in the world theater, I would sorta like to leave... It is something I will have to look into, many thanks for the tip!

You love that dictionary don't you? :p (so do I!:D)

We use Dr. as a prefix if you have any doctoral degree, and that technically includes PhD, MD, PharmD (pharmacist), JSD (a doctorate from law school), and the one for dentists too (DDS or DDM).

But, most people say "doctor" assuming it's a physician. It's just frustrating coming from an academic background where everyone is a "doctor" in a sense.

Hence my rant.

I'm in the Magnet Program for Engineering at my high school. I hope to be a mechanical or computer engineer. Something along the lines of any engineering having to do with technology. My dream would be to be an engineer for Apple. Being employed by Apple would really be great :D

I think I can make it to my dream if I try hard in school.

My classes for next year:
English 2 Honors
Physics Honors
Pre-Calculus Honors
Engineering Technology 2 (I skipped tech 1 :D )
Materials and Processes 1 (A.K.A Robotics for the kids in the magnet)
TV Production 1 (I needed at least one fun elective haha)

Oh and I will be a 10th grader next year. Wish me luck!

I am a language junkie. I'd love to do something in the language field that gets a rather decent paycheck, although I don't know what that might be. Perhaps a specialty translator or interpreter. Would also help if went back to school and really developed my language skills. Unfortunately right now, I don't know any other language well enough to do such a career.

Also have thought it might be an interesting career to work for the US State Department as a Foreign Service Officer. Get to learn a few languages and live in interesting locations throughout the world. I understand in some places though, you'd be a target :(

Uhhmmm....don't forget that we also refer to people with a DVM as doctor ;)
DVM = Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, for those who may not know :)

When I was a kid I wanted to be an archeologist although my mother talked me out of it. I have always wanted to be a commercial pilot but due to health reasons I am not allowed.

I did a BFA at uni majoring in Sculpture and Media.

Currently I am working as a Utilties consultant.

Ultimately I would like to make a full time living off my artwork.

1-Do what I currently do for a living (IT), but get paid double what I currently make.
2- Start an organic farm. Gotta learn how to farm first :p

And don't forget us DVMs or VMDs.

Thank you.

Dream job since I was, like, 12 years old = veterinarian.
Current job = veterinarian.

It was initially a small disappointment to my parents who had wished that I had become an "RD" (aka a "Real Doctor"), but I think they got over it.

And as I like to remind them... Real Doctors treat more than one species! ;)
