I have Ikea Galant desk and it comes with a desktop tower hook that hangs off on the side. It works great lets my Mac Pro sit about 6 inches off the ground (which is carpeted).

I use an Ikea Summera computer holder. Works well if you have an Ikea Galant desk.

DIY example

I was interested in the Sonnet Maccuff as well, until I found out that my desk would likely not support the weight (particleboard of some sort w/ laminate). Searched around for stands and carts, and was surprised at the lack of options that were both compact and nice-looking (to my eyes, at least). Decided to fashion something myself.

I made a rolling platform from a 13" x 22" utility shelf. From the hardware store, I purchased a small piece of .25" thick oak plywood, casters, washers, and some acorn cap nuts, and put it all together.

Sure, it's a little strange-looking and certainly not the quickest / easiest solution, but now my new baby won't have to reside directly on the floor, and I can easily roll it out from under my desk as needed. Now all I need is for my MP to show up tomorrow and meet its new home...

This is a Sonnet Maccuff I think. I always fancied one of these since my original G5, but never got round to buying one. Has anyone used one? How is it?

They are a bit pricy. I thought by now there would be similar cheaper options.

Hi Ya

I have used one of these ( Got mine from Ebay for about £50 ) and it worked very well indeed, if you do not mind putting half a dozen screws into the underside of your desk.

Also I found that some help lifting onto and off of the hanger would be very wise.

Cool thanks Washac,

Well done for getting it for £50. How strong is your desk? Is it solid wood? I have a composite plywood thing and I am a bit apprehensive as to whether it will take the weight on the screws.

Not what I'll be putting it on, but rather what I am putting it into, apologies if it seems slightly "off-topic", but I'm getting a case for it as it'll go "out on the road"!!

I was thinking about going with those Lack tables. Does it feel pretty sturdy on one of those? You have it laying on its side?

It's sitting upright, diagonal on the table. Very sturdy. If you wanted to you could cut the legs to make it shorter, but this height matches my desk so it's easy to get at the drives. Plus it's only 8 bucks.

I agree about the strength of the case. I'm actually more worried about my table giving out (it's only ikea) than any direct stress on the mac pro.
We've put them cases to crazy stresses and yes they will hold ;)

Very true. I was a little more worried about waking up to a shattered table and Mac
Pro on the floor

But it's good to hear you've gotten it working for you. Maybe an Ikea trip is in order...

This is what I use as well, though I opted to install it by securing the "L" shaped pieces inside the end of the desk frame instead of under the frame as you did, so the computer hangs outside of the desk instead of under it.

However you choose to attach it, I think it works really well if you have an Ikea desk. Not expensive either.

I found this as an alternative to the expensive Maccuff Pro.

What do you think? I am going to try and order one. Not sure if they will ship to the UK, but it is worth a try.

I have now ordered one of these in silver. They were willing to ship to the UK (for free) if I ordered a Cable Manager as well. Total cost - $85 (£55). I will let you know how it works out.

Stick on wheels from the container store. Wheels should come stock, but these help immensely.

$55 for that thing!?!?!?!?! And in melamine no less?

That's criminal. You could make one yourself from $10-15 worth of stuff at Home Depot and a spare 30 minutes.

Actually, the price is cheaper than that ($42) but I don't think there store has been updated in a while, which worries me even more. I got the price quote when I emailed them regarding shipping.

But my question was about the size, not the price. And, for the record, I don't make crap myself. I live in a flat, not a woodshop.

Not alot of physics majors here I take it.... but a Mac Pro hanging from hooks as wide as the handles is no more pressure/risk than the bottom handles bending/breaking when sitting on a flat surface.

Would you worry that a bridge you could stand on would be to weak to hang from?

 I DO have a Galant desk! I will have to get something soon. I have a UPS and a mac pro tower to get up off the floor. My little **** dog already almost peed on the mac pro

I think the issue is that it is effectively hanging from screws that are screwed into the desk. The desk surface has to be able to take this kind of fixing. Some lightweight desks might struggle.
