One glance at the poll results as of this writing reveals that not one of the choices truly stands out among those who responded. A perfect result, proving to Apple that their user base will buy anything no matter how old, stagnant or uninspiring.

No wonder some say it's a boring phone.

I on the other hand don't think it's boring as much as I think Apple is being very clever as usual.

They know exactly how little they need to do keep selling in huge quantities. Now having wasted 2013 in it's entirety barring any last minute surprises, those of us (myself included) that want an iPhone that has a more relevant display size will be forced to wait until 2014 at the earliest.

I'm quite happy that Samsung has done a great job of giving me an opportunity to buy a phone with features relevant to the present day. Samsung has maximised 2013 with release of many exciting models, all the while Apple's iPhone lays somewhat dormant to those to only see it as the average consumer does.

And that's proves all that's needed to sell iPhones is the Apple Logo. The rest is inconsequential and encourages Apple to continue to freeze innovation.

Because their easily defeated. Ever own a laptop with a scanner?

Mythbusters beat one with a photocopy of a fingerprint.
Not all sensors are created equal, just as not all {insert anything} are created equal. The fingerprint sensors released a decade ago, or even three or four years ago, are not comparable to the better sensors available today, which incorporate more biometric information than your fingerprint. Apple purchased Authentec in part for its newest sensor which has not shipped as part or any commercial product.

You can't generalize the quality of fingerprint sensors any more than you can generalize the quality of mobile phones.

The irony here is that "Dual camera flash LEDs" have ZERO votes (out of 63) till now and that is probably the one thing that is 100% going to be included in the 5S based on leaked images so far. :D

yep - BIGGER SCREEN - NOT !!!!

uh huh - a bigger screen would be really cool man and then it'd like look like a S4 -

PULLEEEEZEE.
Great idea.

Seriously?
8mg camera with image stabilisation.

Better accessibility. I would like AssistiveTouch to be expanded a bit, maybe even more options in one section rather than having to tap multiple times to get to one thing. I know that's software wise though.

I want better cameras. 16MP, :D

Huge all-around spec boosts will be enough for me for me to make the jump from the 5 to the 5S.

2 GB of RAM, faster processor, 32 GB storage for the base model, camera improvements, and equal or better battery life.

why the pipe dreams when apple clearly has a protocol for its product releases (ie 3 to 3s & 4 to 4s) that saw only minor internal changes?

don't get carried away. or at least don't be disappointed when the 5s is released.

I'm really curious what they'll do with the camera... whatever it is, it will definitely involve improving the dynamic range.

that said, I could see an acceptance of the new ac wifi standard - if it actually makes a tangible speed improvement.

1080P 5" screen and better CPU/GPU

12+ hours of LTE browse time.

I don't need a bio sensor or better camera

This sounds like really bad android marketing

While true, I agree with your post. I'm just not seeing it (just my opinion personally) as a worthwhile feature.

Say it did have a totally foolproof scanner. Then what? A different way to unlock my phone is the "upgrade"? I've never say back and said "man I wish I could unlock my phone differently".

And when there is poll on the subject there are large amounts of people that don't even lock their phones. The people that say "I just won't lose it". While I don't agree with that mentality those people do exist.

The scanner on the Motorola Atrix work well enough. Yet I'd say the majority of people on here didn't know there has already been a phone (albeit Android) that have used a finger print scanner.

I don't know. It just seems silly to me (once again just my opinion) for Apple to incorporate this now.

If that's the ONLY thing it gets I'd get an iPhone 5 off contract and skip the 5S.

It isn't. These posters have seen too many spy movies or are confusing legacy fingerprint sensors with modern sensors. Modern fingerprint sensors detect and use additional biometric information, such as temperature, skin density, and vein patterns, to produce passwords that are the equivalent of alphanumeric passwords that are dozens of characters long.

A fingerprint sensor is key to (a) corporate and government customers and (b) mobile payments. Corporations and government agencies currently require 8-12 digit alphanumeric passwords to unlock a phone; a fingerprint reader would eliminate these passwords, if properly implemented. Mobile payments haven't taken off because of concerns over security; a fingerprint reader, or a pin combined with a fingerprint reader, would largely address those concerns.

All the fingerprint scanners have been disabled at our building on the local proving grounds (I'm a government contractor) inside the building and out. The ones outside don't work to well in adverse conditions because of the reasons you mentioned (temperature, moisture of finger etc) the ones inside worked fine but were disabled for security reasons.

They also required direct skin contact. How would you implement a quality (as in protection) case on a phone that needs an exposed portion? That would put lifeproof and any other company that specializes in element proofing an iPhone out of business. Plus the people that need that level of protection would be SOL.

Also seems odd for the first time ever the S model will get "additional" hardware.

But like I keep mentioning this is just my opinion. Maybe Apple will put something cool in, maybe not. We'll have to wait and see.
