I am preparing myself mentally to wait until January 2013
( actually going head to head with apple as long as it takes..:) )
What is your plan?

I really won't NEED a hardware upgrade until the end of August when GW2 releases, but I'm not sure I'll have the patience to wait much past the ML release to see what the new iMac has to offer.

I'm already putting together a gaming rig in my head, which is what's going to happen if they keep us waiting much longer:

I5-3570K
Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3
GTX 660 or maybe 660 TI depending on price/peformance ratio

I have to wait till the end of august anyways, otherwise I would be writing this on my imac 27. :D

If it doesn't arrive in July, I'll wait until August. If it doesn't arrive in August, I'll wait until September. There's GeekBench scores for the iMac already so it's definitely coming soon, July's my bet.

It's all about wether there are any reliable rumours about an imminent release between now and the end of July.

I'm slightly concerned that those geekbench scores (or score rather it was only one wasn't it) are the only reliable rumour that we have and that was several months ago?

I'll buy what's available at the time.

As I have never owned a Mac,any one wil be a new experience for me.

This waiting around is killing me so I will wait till end of July, then just dive in.

Oh and never again,I can't be doing with all the secrecy, once I have a Mac,I won't need to go through this again.

Alan

If the updated iMac doesn't appear in July, I'll just keep waiting till it does arrive. I've been waiting for months already.

Already stopped waiting.

Order a 13" macbook air, upgrade my PC and ordered a 27" (non-Apple) screen. All for the same as a top spec 27" BTO 2011 iMac.

This was my inspiration:

Day to day things can you the MBA, plus the benefit of taking it anywhere. For hard work or games switch to my PC.

This is fun isn't it :D

It's gotta be worth waiting a few more weeks for I'm sure. I'm guessing that apple won't release this new OS version on its own.

Nice set up. The light behind the screen really works well :)

Rumours aren't necessarily to know when a release is coming, it's really just for what hardware's coming.

Just picked up the 3.4 i7 27" yesterday from the local Apple store. They assured me that if the iMacs refresh in July they'd exchange me, even though I'd be past the 14 day policy. Made my decision easier.

What screen?

My plan is to continue enjoying the new 27" iMac I bought over a month ago now. I'm very happy with it. :D

Im annoyed that its been over 400 days and no refresh. Im not in to dropping 3200 for the macbook-retna/27" monitor. Im a photographer and with the high MP count of the D800 my 4year old 24" just isn't cutting it. I think Im going to give it one more month and then bite the bullet and get the 27. Im pretty sure the new modes will be 8gb which will come in handy.

Good choice .... not only is it a mighty fine machine, but it looks better on a desktop than multiple devices.

I tried the Macbook Pro / External Monitor setups in the past thinking I could yank the macbook pro and take it with me. It was always a performance compromise and never got carried anywhere.

seems that they're quite sure that the new imac wont arrive in july... :-/

I agree that's not good news! Though I know that employees dont know about updates, I guess they have more facts to go in than us...guess we won't see a new IMac in july

I'm not planning on buying till around early November so i can wait. Originally i was going to go with a 30inch Dell Ultrasharp plus the new Inspiron but as i'm confined for space, an all in one seems very tempting.

It's going to be an odd transition as I've been using PC towers and Windows desktops all my natural born life. As i thought about how i use my current PC for almost strictly entertainment, there really isn't anything i'm doing that i can't do on a MAC except a few software such as Media Player Classic and i'm not ashamed to say Windows Media Player 11. Although Parallels & WINE can help me with that.

Anyway i plan on getting the 27", Airport extreme to replace my extremely crappy wireless Thomson 100Mb/s 802.11 a/b/g router and a new desk hopefully within a £2000 budget.

Oh this is not good may do the same now my PC has died on me time to buy my first mac me thinks

I just bought one so in that respect I hope there is no refresh. If there is a refresh in July, if timing cooperates, I can return this new iMac and get a refreshed one with USB 3.0 and slightly bumped up specs. Honestly this one year old outdated iMac is more then enough for my most intensive things I am doing with this computer right now.....plus doing a new migration/install twice in a month with suck.

...
Apple won't be selling me another iMac until the Apple Care on this new one is almost up .... sometime in 2014, who knows the new ones might be out by then! :D
That's a good policy. Although if my iMac is holding out well, I might keep it until the refresh after the AppleCare is up - depending partially on the probable timing of the refresh.

Monitor option

I should have been more clear: I plan to buy a non-Apple display, so I think the prices will be very close. Yes, I'll be paying more, but Apple won't be getting all of it.

Here is a possibility. Not sure if it's up to apple standards as it is brand new from Samsung.

SAMSUNG Series 9 S27B970D High Gloss Black/Brushed Aluminum 27" 5ms (GTG) Height Adjustable HDMI PLS Panel Widescreen LED-Backlit LCD Monitor 285 cd/m2 1000:1 Static w/Speakers

Reading these forums and the lack of any news on the web makes me believe a refresh is far away. I guess I should stop reading the forums for a few months as every post just makes me more confident that nothing is imminent. Have a nice no-iMac summer :(
