Reading these forums and the lack of any news on the web makes me believe a refresh is far away. I guess I should stop reading the forums for a few months as every post just makes me more confident that nothing is imminent. Have a nice no-iMac summer :(

I would tend to agree with you. I'm just about to say sod it and order the components for the PC instead.

Just picked up the 3.4 i7 27" yesterday from the local Apple store. They assured me that if the iMacs refresh in July they'd exchange me, even though I'd be past the 14 day policy. Made my decision easier.

Really? Did they make that promise in writing?

I wouldn't take the lack of news as indication of no refresh... It would likely be a relatively minor spec bump after all and not a major redesign or new product launch. Therefore, it could have simply slipped under the radar :)

Really putting my hopes ojn july sometime along ML. If honestly there is none i'll go with the 2011. The main reason i've waited this long is for usb 3, ivy bridge etc. Pretty much what is already out there but not on the 2011,. Maybe hdmi? Would be nice ahAha as for retina i dont really need it.

When even apple store guarantees more than two weeks return they would seem quite confident the current iMac is staying for a while longer

Good choice .... not only is it a mighty fine machine, but it looks better on a desktop than multiple devices.

I tried the Macbook Pro / External Monitor setups in the past thinking I could yank the macbook pro and take it with me. It was always a performance compromise and never got carried anywhere.

I was considering this with the 13" MBP but like you I'd probably rarely if ever take it anywhere and yes there are compromises to be had with that set up.

Building a new desktop unit now to accommodate the 27" iMac but with room to grow if they make a bigger one in the future. The center section will be over 110cm wide and 65cm high with shelving and draws on either end to hide the junk.

The best "rumor" for the last two days, is that it's finally July here, and in three weeks we would know, if we have to wait another half year for a Mac.

That rumor SUCKS! :eek::D;):)

It's kind of like Ground Hog Day. Except in this case we are waiting to see if an iMac pops up and sees a Mountain Lions shadow. If not, 6 more months of waiting. ;)

The pic looks like Dell U2711, which is an awesome screen. I have the Apple Cinema Display and wish I had the Dell instead. The ACD is like a mirror. Unusable in daytime and I'm sending it back.

Antiglare coating kills me, most of the web is in white. I cant stand seeing the dirty screen effect on mate screens.

I spent a good chunk of time this weekend reading up on cases and browsing the deal forums for any deals on components so good that I couldn't resist. Thankfully, nothing so far--though I do have a good grasp on my case choice now.

To think 5 years ago I wouldn't have thought twice about just building a new gaming box and now that I'm ready to take the plunge on an iMac for my main box and even sacrificing a bit of performance...they've evidently decided to stop trying to get folks to take them seriously in the home use high end desktop market.

I think apple lost such a momentum with the unclear decision of the iMac release.
So many wanted to change from pc to Mac
I hope this is not the first signals of the absence of Steve.
And point to apple future.

There's no reason to rule out early August.

Sept/Oct are unlikely due to their other products.

As a happy mac user for the last six years, I must say that I am not really happy with the direction Apple seems to be heading.

This year I find myself in need of a new machine and I am getting tired of waiting, but refusing to pay top dollar for hardware that is well over a year old.

I really want to see if Apple brings a new iMac out in the next few weeks, but in all honestly.....I'll likely be seeing it via a new PC if some critical parts to my build are once again carrying the "in stock" badge. ;)

My plan?

None. I will continue to wait, like I said I don't really need to upgrade I just too. LOL

I feel that at this point, everything is pure speculation. The only people that really know are those at apple HQ... And they are well known for their ability to keep quiet about new product/refresh release schedules :)

If Apple won't release an update for the iMac line when ML is released, it will certainly confuse and upset quite many people. It will then become really hard for ordinary people to understand the intentions of Apple for desktop computers.

Have hardware people at Apple been messing things up recently? Will more hardware people leave Apple because of this?

That is what annoy on apple world, while in iPhone/ iPad I trust apple to bring me the best components, I trust their engineers to "tell" me: "listen this hardware is all you need in this point int time, and when a better one will come that we think will make an impact, we will give you new gadget"

In computers this is not the case, people want the best hardware there is all the time.
People know and understand CPUs / gpu, and know when they need a good one or better one.
They want flexibility, so in the case of window machine you can swap the CPU the moment intel release new CPU.

In apple world they treat the desktop as iPhone, I have to wait for the whole package.
I can barley understand it in iMac ( as long as they change iMac every year with the best components...), I can't understand it totally in Mac pro!
Imagine that people in the entertainment business in Hollywood are now stuck with two years old machine, can't upgrade can't add components, just because apple don't think that it is the "right" moment for them.
This is a joke.
If I was using Mac pro I would seriously had to consider changing back to pc.

All this talk of people moving back to Windows if a new iMac isn't released... Is that really what you want? The grass certainly isn't greener over here.

I promised myself an iMac, and I'm going to wait for one.

My plan is to wait I guess. I don't 'Need' the new iMac as of right this moment. Although with my new HDD with USB 3 I picked up a few days ago I'm really keen to see how fast it is on USB 3 if they include that on the next gen iMacs, one more thing to look forward too!:D

I have a feeling that the innovative edge of Apple is disappearing because no one at Apple can be as nuts as Steve Jobs was. Many other companies will catch up with, surpass, and replace Apple. It is possible that the tragedy of Sculley's time will repeat itself.

Thus, stop dreaming any good new desktop computers from Apple.

Well there's no way I'd be happy about spending full price for last years hardware.

I've still for AppleCare on my 27" iMac (late 2009) till 18th May 2013. I just hope they can release the new machine before it expires! Whenever they do, I'll be putting down the ££ for a new top-spec 27".

Still... the sooner they release it, the more I'll get from a sale of my current iMac. Main features for me are Thunderbolt, Ivy Bridge, USB3, usual spec bump of CPU, RAM, GPU, SSD etc.

I'm also really hoping for a nice new redesign. Would like to see the bonded screen technology (with less glare) used in the rMBP. One of my biggest issues with current iMac is super-glossy screen. I don't like the look of anti-glare though. The rMBP is just right.

Have you seen the rmbp in the store? It still seems plenty glare prone to me.

Well as a happy Mac user for the last 10 years or more I have to say I think they have lost it completely
All they seem to care about now is toys like the iPhone and iPad ... Pretty toys perhaps, but toys none the less
The ONLY reason I have been using Macs for so long is due to the reliability and user friendliness of their operating system
That solid grounding of the company seems to have got completely eroded of late ... And with it will go the solid base of their buying public ... Leaving them with the fickle fashion conscious idle nouveau-riche who are temporarily addicted to their new toys
We all know what tends to happen after a while when that happens don't we
