I'm contemplating upgrading my iPad 1 as I don't have a laptop. I will likely get the Retina mini as I use it mostly for text-based things, and I often try to use a BT keyboard and stand with it. iPads aren't very good ergonomically, so lighter is certainly good. I'll see how light the Air is in hand though, at least.

I'm planning to develop an app. Having an A7 device is essential.

Also, weight and speed improvements (over iPad 3) are a consideration.

I personally can't wait to have a truly mobile recording studio. I will be purchasing a new Apogee Duet to run in GarageBand. midi, etc for mobile keys. The possibilities are endless.

getting both

I had my ipad4 replaced a few months after i got it. I went black and Best Buy replaced it. I didn't want to open it because it was too late in the cycle. Best Buy gave me a refund. I got a mini to try. I like the mini size but with my glasses the mini isn't the best for reading. I got a price of $429.00 from eCycle Best for my mini. I also sold my (almost never used) Nexus7 and a 6th gen iPod nano at my garage sale. I am waiting to get both 128 gig on the air and 64 gig on the mini ret.
I have been using my 5s for a week now and I miss my tablet. I have my iMac but I like the ipad for surfing alot better.

Ipad for school.

I'm buying the iPad Air, so i don't need to take my heavy computer with me to school everyday. I'm kinda tired of it, and i want something lighter.

I generally use an iPad for web browsing as well studying for my IT certs via Goodreader. I use a couple of the sports apps as well.

The major "feature" that appeals to me enough to ditch my 3 is weight. The 3 has always been a bit hefty IMHO.

Same here. I'd buy it if weight is the only thing that had changed from the 3 to the Air. I love my iPad, and almost never let it go. Reading and surfing the web on this thing is so good. This week, I spent some time surfing the web on my iMac and MacBook Air while I waited for all the new iWork apps to download, and it really reminded me that doing it on the iPad feels so much better. But the 3 gets heavy if I carry it around in my bag all day. So reduction in weight means a loot to me.

I enjoy being caught up to date on current products. I guess it's more of a tradition for me to get a new iPad every year (just like how I get a new iPhone every year).

Oh c'mon, the real reason is that most of us are just stricken with "gotta have its" syndrome and will find any reason to justify buying new electronic gadgets.

And that's that!

:D

My coffee table wobbles because one of the legs is slightly shorter than the others. Turns out, the ipad air has the exact same thickness for a wedge.

It's new and exciting with a thinner body and weighs less, and my current one is getting boring and starting to show it's age. And the old one doesn't take half my belongings.:D

because I made the mistake of buying a 16gb iPad 3. I like too many racing games..lol now I have my eyes set on a 64gb iPad Air

Needed to upgrade from my WiFi only 3rd gen to a model with cellular and more storage for work. Its also nice being smaller and lighter.

Had iPad 4 and intended to keep it for years.... turned out it was a rebuilt one which couldn't be warranty covered. I was able to get Amazon to take it back for full refund ~3 months ago and knew that a new model was coming out, so I figured I'd wait.

Bingo!!! While there are some nice new features (namely weight), I'd bet the iPad is primarily an entertainment/leisure device for 80% of the users.

People like having new things...there's nothing wrong with that.
