Ahhh, thanks. And by your not answering the obvious next question, I'll assume Iris Pro doesn't have a way to check the monitor brand...
Open System Preferences > Display > Color > Open Profiles. Scroll to the bottom. Look at Model.

Among the values for Samsung (there seem to be several): 0000A022

Will need others to help identify: other values for Samsung and LG. (This is why I'm hesitant on posting this information because I don't want to be flamed)

I will look at my 2.3 / LG for that value.

Thanks, this method worked, and for OP this is much better than the terminal option if it applies to all models and doesn't require Xcode installation.

My manufacturer: 610
My display: A022

Yup, manufacturer is Samsung.

LG - uneven coloration (slight yellowish/pinkish tone on left of screen) - minor but annoying. IR after a few minutes.

Returning for a new one today and will keep returning until I get one I'm happy with.

My 2.6/16GB/1TB machine has a Samsung, and it is a gorgeous screen :)

Brighter and whiter than the monitors on my desktop PC, lovely uniform backlight.

Very pleased! :)

Samsung on the 2012 model and LG on the new one ( SJE1 )

As of now, I'm liking the LG better!

You didn't leave enough options.

My gen. 1 has a yellow tint which is within what's acceptable. But when I buy my next mbp in a couple of years I'm not going to tolerate any defects. Many of the gen 2 users are reporting IR and odd tints, which is unacceptable in my book.

So, to make a long story short, you should have given us an option "it's sort of OK". :D

Edit: it's a Samsung, of course.

First gen LG (SJA1) screen here. No problems after 10 months. We'll see how it goes. I did take out Applecare though, just in case ;)

Updated post with non-Terminal method, thanks pat.micunnis! ^^

My new Haswell mac (left) is very yellow. :( It looks fine if I don't compare it to my old computer but what the hell. Do you guys think I should exchange it?

It's not uneven, you could just calibrate it if you prefer colder. Personally I've left it as it is, it's slightly warm but great for general use, got another monitor with real calibration for when I need it.

Samsung non-sense. Don't even bother calibrating. To make it a decent white, you'll lose in brightness. I'd return it if I were you.

In my honest opinion, and I keep repeating it in every single thread referring to the rMBP's screen, LG is a superior choice. The whites are crisper. Blacks deeper. Contrast way better. And overall a much more accurate native white-point.

Samsungs IMO look terrible. I've had 4 of them until I was able to get an LG that's absolutely perfect. I have yet to see a Samsung display that looks as good as an LG.

Go get an exchange. That seriously looks like papyrus. :)

Edit : after looking more closely at your picture, it also looks like the left side is darker than the right. Uneven backlighting or more pronounced yellowing on that side I wouldn't be able to say since you're on a webpage. Can you snap a picture with the solid white wallpaper and nothing on your desktop?

As posted in the other thread (Yellow tint) mine has started to develop a yellowish tint at the bottom half of the screen, going to contact Apple to see if they can send me a replacement as I can't be without a computer.

Edit: Forgot to mention I have an LG screen.

mine is samsung as well as ssd - absolutely love them both, display has no sign of yellow tint or backlight bleeding or retention whatsoever, so that yellow tint must be related to specific piece, not manufacturer of display, or if it is only issue related to samsung, it is definitely not for all of pieces, maybe some kind of damaged series...

It looks like the bottom left and the right side of the screen are uneven and less white than the left top area. Guess I will go for an exchange. Is there a way to make sure I get a good copy?

Just bought one, looks like 3/4 can't find any problems. That's good odds!

Sucks for Apple though!

Unfortunately, there's no way for them to see which screen is mounted on each unit. You have to run the terminal command. You just have to return them until you find the one.

Don't let them give you attitude about it. They usually don't but you can always stumble upon an associate that's gonna say 'I don't see the yellow.'

I reminded him of 2 things when that happened to me : 1) I'm a paying customer that will not settle for yellow corners on a $2.6K machine within the 14-day return period and 2) If we were to switch roles, he would probably do the same as I don't see a store associate working for an Apple store having disposable income of that nature. Worked every time they started with the attitude. It seems they respond positively to getting condescending back at times.

Just calibrate it to a cooler blue temperature and see what happens.

Went through 3 new 15" rMBPs. 1 LG, 2 Samsungs.

Had issues with the LG.

Happy with both Samsungs.

(all three were the new Haswell by the way).

I don't have any calibration tools but tried the built in tool. Like ToneLA predicted, I lose brightness and plus the whole screen has a very distinct blue cast, not accurate color reproduction. If it was uniformly warmer I would be fine with it (my iphone 5 is also on the warm side compared to my 3GS) but it is VERY yellow and uneven. The top left is whiter than the bottom and the sides.

Some people may not care but I don't want to settle for a sub par screen with such an expensive product.

Gone through 2 laptops so far. 15" 16/512/2.6 750m. First had very slight yellow strip with a black smudge about the size of my thumb in the middle of it. Second has significant yellowing in bottom left and right corners. Both samsung
