Other What led to you get a new iPhone?

What were your reasons for getting a new iPhone?

Battery life. If Samsung matched Apple in battery life, or if batteries on mobile phones could be easily replaced, I would be using a Samsung.

I simply wanted a new iPhone in 2022 and went with the 13, after toying around with the 13 Pro and Pro Max. The screen quality in the latter series, for me at least, is very bad. Red tints all over. Tempted to change to 13 Pro in Alpine Green last week but chose to stick to my 13 instead.

The 13 in Midnight is a thing of beauty. It’s closest kin is the Slate colour of the iPhone 5. It’s dark when it needs to be and it is inky dark blue under extreme sunlight. It’s definitely in my top 3 best iPhone colours of all time.

The battery life is awesome, and there’s no reason for me to carry a 6.5” iPhone 11 PM (which I upgraded from) just for the battery life alone. It’s lesser than the 11 PM but very comparable.

I got a new iPhone without paying $1900 over here (for the 13 PM) without sacrificing OLED, speed and battery life. It’s a great purchase and a decent choice of an upgrade for me.

The charging port on my iPhone X also got bad after awhile. Yes, there were some tugging while using it while plugged into a socket, as well as having it dragged around connected to a power bank, but I had thought it would handle as much. Often, while plugged in it wouldn’t charge, so I had to jiggle the cable.

Now I feel like I have to baby my charging port, based on the sh!tty port on the X.

This actually made me think of that indestructible and always reliable old Nokia plug which kinda looked like a 3.5 mm aux jack lol

(I should also mention that the only iPhone I’ve had prior to the X was a 3GS, but I would still expect the ports, and the cables, to work properly on such an expensive device)
 
Baby, interesting observation. Please elaborate. At first glance, it's not clear what the matches are!
 
I got tired of Samsung (ads, cutting features/hardware, etc.), loved my note9 and previous phones.
Pixels had hardware issues (had a 3xl and now 5 for work).
OnePlus isn't the same anymore, loved the 3.
LG (G3 and V20 versions were good) and HTC (DROID!!!) are pretty much done.
And idk what Motorola is doing.

Just decided to go apple, figured lucky # 13 (lol). Plus I got $800 for a trade-in deal.
The hardware + software work well together since apple controls it.
Still rocking a MBA from 8 years ago without any issues. And looking to pick up a ipad mini 6.

Didn't like the route android was going. Android 12 was a bad update in terms of the quick toggles, notifications, more material UI with more extra white space everywhere, etc.
I do miss some of the things from the android system (like more customization, side-loading, etc.), but overall I am enjoying the switch to the 13 Pro.

Many of us hang on to our phones for years before upgrading. Others buy more frequently. Was wondering what was behind your upgrade. Perhaps that will give us slow adopters reasons to upgrade!

I voted for a new battery...my X got a new battery about 8 months ago but it too slowly degraded and by late afternoon/early evening it needed a charge.

So far the 13 mini battery seems to be okay.

Adding on to my last post, the flat sides are another reason i upgraded. i always did hate the rounded sides when i had the 6S & 8 Plus.

Now, i hope i use this 13 Pro Max for more than 3 years. lol
 
I used iPhone 5S for exactly 7 years (2013-2020). The first three years did not cause any problems. Everything was good until iOS 10 in terms of performance and battery. With iOS 11 released in 2017, my device has become unusable. That year I considered upgrading to an iPhone X, but couldn't because my financial situation wasn't good enough.

With iOS 12, I gave up on upgrading completely after taking a breather. After using it for 2 more years, I replaced it with an iPhone XS in 2020. The reason I changed it was purely because the device is now over. I'm currently using iPhone X (I gave the XS to my brother) and I wouldn't change it until the device dies, both hardware and software. My country's economy doesn't allow it anyway. 😀

I live in Turkey and it costs me exactly 25,000 Turkish lira to buy an iPhone 13 Pro right now. Imagine buying an iPhone 13 Pro for $25,000, that's it.

I tried the 13 mini for two days last week and had to get rid of it as it was causing my eyes to burn. I have been using a Samsung Galaxy S10e for more than two years and it causes me no problems. Something is clearly messed up with the iPhone oled screens. No troubles with your SE LCD screen?

I feel for you. Your currency has taken a real beating recently. It can't be easy.

Like/Thumbs Up x1000. Touch ID has never worked consistently for me, ever, on any of my iPhones, MacBooks, or iPads. My skin tends to be on the dry side already and between daily handwashing or hand sanitizing and putting on hand lotion Touch ID rarely recognizes my fingerprints. I've even tried registering multiple prints, to no avail. But Face ID--works every time.

Agree, 100% success rate with Face ID.

Touch ID can be very frustrating at times.

Hopefully  replaces Touch ID with Face ID on the rest of their devices.

We are used to the prices now. We also buy a few to the state when buying an iPhone. 😀 Let's go over the prices. Since our purchasing power is low, such devices are becoming inaccessible. I'm drowning when I look at the prices. Fortunately, I have a device that can handle me for a while under these conditions.
 
Became a first-time iPhone user (refurbished 8) after realising I didn't seem to have any options for half-decent sub-5 inch Android phones! Even 4.7 is a bit on the large side for my small hands...

I should mention though that it was "New to me"

(preowned SE1 to add to my fleet of them)
 
I had an 8+ and decided to stay with the same size. I went with the 13 pro max, which is a wonderful device. The only downside in my early use of the new phone is its weight. It doesn’t feel as comfortable in my hand as my previous phone, but that’s to be expected in early days.
