I did install 10.5.2 as well as the Security Update 2008-001, and the graphics update, restarted a lot, made sure the computer was idle and normal again. And when opening my applications stack, it REALLY looks terrible. And in system preferences, when I click on the dock preferences, as you know, the window gets smaller, and the effect is hidious.

In stacks, when magnification is high, and you leave the dock, the stack still dangles up there

My wireless still keeps losing connectivity, its hilarious to watch :)
That and my networked computers keep going in and out too. Oh well :(

WIRELESS! It's not completely fixed.

Fixed? It BROKE my wireless. It worked great until an hour ago when i installed 10.5.2. The wireless connection on my MacBook randomly drops out, scans, reconnects LITERALLY every 3 minutes or less. This NEVER happened prior to 10.5.2. My wireless connection is worthless right now.

Grid view stack is still pretty choppy... maybe I just have too many icons for it but still...

Why not a way to turn stacks off?

And why don't we get a little bar that allows us to choose the opacity of the menus and menu bar? that way Apple would get less complaints because everyone would be happy.

Same, it works, but the same struggle.

I can't believe they haven't fixed the folder view amnesia finder has!!

There's a folder in my desktop with custom stuff, like no windows borders, and a background. It's supposed to open always like that. Just that it doesn't.

Finder opens it up using a standard Finder window. Then I close and open agan and Finder magically "remembers" the view it's supposed to have. But if you keep working, in a few hours Finder will have already forgotten the view and back to step 1.

It's annoying.

really no one is experiencing this? this is the only thing that has annoyed me and made Leopard a pain to use since 10.5.0.

I seem to only get this when I delete something from my Time Machines backups, but yeah, it's happening.

It's the little things like this that make Leopard...just...not fun to use. It's so simple and it would be nice to have it like it was in Tiger.

I'm still having problems with Spaces. At some point during a day of work, Spaces will get itself in a twist. Symptoms are:

1. Clicking a dock icon doesn't automatically navigate to the correct space.
2. Windows become hidden and is difficult to get them back without quitting the app. Another work-around is to select minimise from the Window menu, and then click the minimised window in the dock.

I'm not sure what's causing it, but I suspect it might have something to do with Eclipse.

nVidia graphics based MBPs still kernel panic with certain VGA connections.

It seems that the graphics updates haven't fixed the problem we have (which we have logged with AppleCare last year) where recent MBPs (i.e. ones produced since last June) will kernel panic when connected to our lecture theatre projection systems.

The panic report shows that there's a division error (i.e. divide by zero), probably because the video switchers aren't returning any DCC information on the VGA connector and the silly programmers haven't tested to see if the values are reasonable before using them.

(It's not a hardware problem as no other machines have a problem and the MBPs themselves work fine with BootCamp+Windows.)

Wonky Keyboard Illumination after 10.5.2

I've always loved the illuminated keyboard on my MBP, but after 10.5.2, I've had to turn it off because it became dyslexic.

The backlit keyboard comes on and stays on unless I'm practically shining a MagLite on the keyboard. Yet, in a dark room, it then decides to turn itself off.

I've found that if I turn the "automatically illuminate keyboard" option off, and on again, it works correctly for a while. But, eventually it goes back to its dyslexic behavior. This never happened before the update.

Not catastrophic, but still annoying.

I've had this issue since 10.5.1. I don't run Eclipse... it's really annoying. The symptoms you outline are spot on. Firefox was always flakey in spaces, and Office 2008... I just end up killing the application and restarting it. A real pain. Mail.app still crashes regularly when simply selecting a message. And now Excel 2008 crashes every time I cut n paste more than 5 times when saving in Excel compatibility mode.

I was hoping for firewall changes - an expert panel maybe... not the complete lack of control broken Leopard GUI. I wonder if someone could retrofit the Tiger GUI into Leopard ;)

Sigh. Tiger is looking more and more appetising. As a switcher from 2006, I fell in love with Tiger. However, one Rev A MBP disgrace and now my first Apple OS upgrade experience ... I feel like I'm back in a Microsoft world, botched OS upgrades and "service packs" - add to that the annoying secrecy regarding hardware upgrade roadmaps.

I'm OS agnostic, I just want something that works. Tiger did. Leopard does not.

In mail, you still can't delete junk mail by right clicking on the folder. The option to delete junk mail is grayed out, the only way to get rid of the spam is select all and hit the delete key. The problem with that is it just moves the spam to the trash instead of permanently deleting it. This hasn't worked correctly since Tiger.

Search that specifies looking for a string within "Entire Message" doesn't work in mail.app. This has been the case with Leopard all along. Works for .mac, but not IMAP/exchange server. Works fine in Tiger's mail.

I've tried forcing spotlight to rebuild it's database. Works fine within the finder, just not within mail.app.

i had ZERO wireless problems prior to 10.5.2, but now my wireless cuts out a couple times every hour... and i know there's nothing wrong with my router, because i use three other computers on it (two xp, one panther), and they have no connection issues. all it takes to reconnect is just the reselection of my preferred network, and although it isn't too much of a hassle, it is annoying...

can someone else confirm this problem?

(using 802.11g, and the 2wire 2700HG-X modem+router)

Same here! NO issues with wireless before update, now I've had to go back to wired as it is constantly dropping out.
Again, my XP laptop and PC have no problems.

I'm connecting to Apple Airport Extreme Base Station

Common Access Cards

I know that an issue with common access cards and card readers has not been fixed since Leopard came out, and they used to work perfectly with Tiger. There are some SCR card readers that do not work even with updating the devices firmware, along with using an Obethur I.D. card with those readers. I really hate having to reboot into Windows to use my card and the 3 SCR card readers I own. I really don't want to buy a new card reader just to use on the Mac when I have those perfectly good ones.

Two things for me. VPN connectivity & the Disk Permission Repair issue.

Everything else works like a charm for now although i haven't conducted any thorough testing. Wireless works fine. Grid view whilst still choppy is smoother than in 10.5.1. General performance is fast etc

Running this on an SR BlackBook by the way

after updating to 10.5.2 and installing the leopard graphics update my G4's are having major graphics issues, banding and artifacts around grid-view stacks, random screen dropouts, random screen scrambling. This affects both laptops and desktops, GeForce and ATI cards.

everything was fine before the update.

can anyone verify these symptoms?

in 10.5.1 i could drag items from the desktop over my mac hd and it would open up, and then move over pictures until i got to sub folder i wanted now, it just beach balls

Yes!! Me too (I had very minor wireless issues in 10.5.1, never any dropouts). For me it happens every x minutes....its so bad!

MBP C2D 15":

+ Generally ooooh so much better!
+ Safari MUCH more stable (i had switched to firefox because it was so bad)
- Display still randomly forgetting their selected "colour callibration" settings
- Menu bar still not loading on boot until you open an application
- Keychain "lock screen" option doesn't always work

PM G5

+ Generally a lot better
- USB Headset no longer works correctly when simultaneously running a videogame

Noteably I have stopped shouting at my MBP.
