Just thought you might appreciate my input here as I also deliberated over the 15" and 17" models for some time.

At work and at home I use a 24" screen (1920x1080 resolution on both), I think I would struggle to go back to a lower resolution so initially my decision was going to boil down to portability of 15" (which I could then connect to monitor) vs all-in-one of 17". I eventually decided that 17" for me, was the correct option as I wanted to move away from the desk otherwise I would have just got an iMac!

In reality, the 17" is no less portable than my old Samsung X20 15". Apart from being slightly larger in dimension my MBP is possibly even lighter, and it's just as thin! Moving around the house is not a problem. One thing to consider into your price is a good bag for transporting/commuting. I have yet to invest in a proper bag, but it is high on my priorities.

I would also recommend the anti-glare option; moving about a lot means varied levels of lighting and the matte screen performs admirably in high-glare scenarios,

Thanks for that post. It sounds like you were in the same situation as I am in now. I only have a 19" screen at work but got a 24" at home and for me to buy a laptop to plug in to the 24" would mean I should just get an iMac. I saw the C2D 17" laptop last night and was surprised at how light it was after hearing so much about how annoying and heavy it was to take out and about with you.

I'm looking in to bags at the moment, I work above a iPod/laptop accessory store so checking out what they can get.

I read on a post today that most covers/slim jackets to not provide the best cover on the corners of the laptops so that's one thing I think you might want to keep in mind when buying a cover for your's..

How well is your's performing? have you noticed any issues?

This is where it will look like I wasted a lot of money because... beyond casual browsing I haven't really used it a great deal (I've had it about 2 months now). By trade I am a Web Developer but the company I work for also sub-contracts work for iOS development, which is a string I'd like to add to my bow as they say. That's the reason I bought a Mac, but I haven't had time to get into the Objective-C/Cocoa API environment just yet.

Daily browsing, some code/image editing are a breeze. The 'Expose' feature makes switching windows fun, and setting it up as a local web server was simple enough after reading a few posts online. I can actually give you a comparison of it's performance over a Windows Vista machine (C2D 2.66GHz) running WAMP because a web-application I built wasn't running as fast as I'd like and I implement some script execution timing and what takes ~0.88 seconds to execute on the Windows machine executes in ~0.002 on my MBP.

As for a bag I am looking at the Booq Boa Squeeze or the Booq Mamba Shift as they look like they offer a lot of protection and as well as plenty of storage space.

haha, your doing the same stuff I want to get in to! I want to get my foot in to app developing and start making some apps for fun and build up my portfolio. Im currently a web designer/developer but looking to get in to simple photography, touch ups, manipulation side too ..

I just saw that bag, looks good, not too sure if it will take my books/water/lunch though :( plus it seems to be a US seller and not a UK selle :(

That Mamba Shift looks like an awesome bag except the price...little steep for me and did you ever end up ordering a comp yet OP?

OP = original poster yea?

If so , no not yet, I'm waiting for the credit card in the post :)

Then I'll be ordering it

I think I will be happy to pay £150 for a backpack, if, and only if, it offers sufficient protection for my £2000+ laptop. Small price to pay for protection and peace of mind. I think the Mamba Shift will hold what you want, the Boa Squeeze on the other hand is more for minimal extras.

I've also attached a screenshot to help you with the 15" v 17" issue.
