Logitech VX Nano ...its the best! I leave the receiver in all the time. It sticks out but is not in danger of causing damage to itself or my precious MBP.

I second this mouse. Have 2 of them. Best mouse I've ever had hands down. Also bought the mx revolution or whatever for home use but gave it away. The nano is just perfect, no need for the mx.

I'm happily using the Mighty Mouse (corded) - it's not perfect, the scroll ball needs cleaning weekly but otherwise it's brilliant.

Anybody recommend a cheap, wireless mouse with buttons/scroll wheel (preferably, Back/Forward buttons)?

Thanks!

It's annoying to use a wired mouse on my 13" (especially, when I'm right-handed, and USB port is on the left side).

Hehe. :p

Emphasis: cheap + w/ buttons (back and forth)

:D

+1 for Logitech VX Nano. It's the perfect mouse!
I've been a Logitech sucker for many years and I own about 15 of their keyboards and 20 of their mice, including most of the recent ones (MX Revolution, VX Revolution, VX Nano, G9).

I agree that the VX Nano is killer, but I recently switched to the V550 Nano and it's even better. It's silver (matches the MBP nicely), it's slightly larger, the battery life is like something out of Guinness Book of World Records (mine is reporting 438 days left, and I believe it (it said 520 days 3 months ago and I've been using it like 8 hours a day). It uses the same tiny Nano receiver. The only bummer is that it has no back/forward buttons like the VX, but I've remapped the scroll wheel's L/R to back/forward since I don't use horizontal scroll much anyway.

For my desktop I use the G9 (I'd use G9x but it's not available in Europe yet for some weird reason), and it's awesome. Puts the awful soap-on-a-string called Mighty Mouse to shame. Unfortunately there are no official OS X drivers for G9 from Logitech yet, but they recently released Mac drivers for some of their other G-series products (the keyboards) so I'm guessing there will be G9 drivers before the end of the year.

Another vote for the MX1100 for on a desktop. It just works, and is extremely comfortable. BT mice are great if you can deal with the input lag (which I can't). And no, EVERY BT mouse I've ever used has input lag. Anyway, also another vote for the VX Nano if you like a smaller mouse, and also the V550 is excellent, too.

The MX1100 is great, just make sure to get the rechargeable MX1100R. For some odd reason they're very secretive about it, it's not listed on the official site.

Agree on BT lag... but if you absolutely must have BT, there's a brand new Logitech model called M555b. It's the V550 with BT.

when i got my mac i did the usual new apple customer thing and bought a wireless mighty mouse. the worse £50 ive spent. blue tooth drops out, the scroll button broke for a while, unless you use top line duracel it eats batteries, its not that comfortable and it seems to attract deadskin and stuff like nothing else. regardless of these issues however i use the trackpad on my mac virtually all the time now, its fantastic. it is without doubt the greatest trackpad of any laptop currently available.

Yeah, the Mighty Mouse is truly an abomination. The wireless one is one of the heaviest mice I've encountered, the battery life is horrible, it's extremely sensitive to interference from WiFi (not to mention Apple's own BT keyboard!), it lags like crazy, and you can wash your hands and put on white gloves but it will still get all dirty and gritty. The bottom doesn't glide, it scrapes against the surface, and if you have a metal or glass surface like the IceMat you will get an unpleasant nails-on-blackboard feeling. The side buttons are so hard to press you have to alter your grip, and you can't rest your finger on the right side like you would on a normal 2-button mouse because it will be picked up, thus blocking left-clicking. It's Apple's most glaring example of form over function since the Cube.

Thanks for all the input. This thread has taken me back to Best Buy a few times to try out a lot of these you mentioned.

The VX Nano was a mouse I was looking at for a while, but was pretty pricey. Currently Logitech has a rebate out on them so you can get one for $40 after rebate. So i'm leaning that way.

I wanted to take advantage of the Bluetooth built in, but i've been reading a lot of complaints about lag and other problems with them.

The V550 is another really nice mouse, but i'm not a big fan of the way it feels in my hand. The VX Nano and V450 feel just right.

I'll add another voice to the Logitech VX and MX Revolution cheering section.

The MX Revolution is the best general purpose mouse I have ever used. The VX Revo is also great all around and a bonus is that you can order the VX Nano receiver and sync it with the Revo.

I use a Razer Lachesis for gaming and that's going to be replaced with a Razer Mamba on my next round of upgrades.

Wow, that RocketFish mouse has really good reviews. I'm picking one up this weekend. Any idea how long the batteries last?
I'm going on 4 months with the current set of AAA's. The RocketFish takes a snooze after a little while of inactivity but wakes up instantly.

I bought a Logitech VX Nano to use with my 13"MBP. I can tell you that there is no problem with right handed mousing while the receiver is on the left. IN FACT, I have grown so that I use the trackpad for everything now. I used to hate trackpads, but this one is so damn enjoyable, the VX Nano is never plugged in.

More info about the VX Nano: I use it as my gaming mouse on my desktop now, because I really like the size and scroll wheel. With the receiver plugged into the front port on the bottom of my case that sits on the floor, I notice zero lag while playing multiplayer FPS games. Don't worry at all about it being 14" away on your Macbook.

Anybody?

I'm so broke. Actually, that's not funny at all.

I just need a simple wireless mouse, with a USB receiver + back/forth buttons. I can't find anything.

Logitech V550 Nano. Only $40, matches the MBP and the nano receiver is tiny. Awesome, awesome mouse. Battery life is also amazing.

Logitech G5 'Gaming' Mouse. Saw it going for cheap so I decided, what the hell, may as well get something good.
reading between the lines
The weights that come with it are kinda useless though.

On the Logitech site it says this mouse has five programmable buttons. Where are the buttons as I can't see any in the images? Does it have back and forward buttons near the thumb area?

I'm looking for a good BT mouse (no add-on receiver thingy) with a multi-direction scroll wheel and at least four buttons but can't seem to find one anywhere.

Anything but the wireless mighty mouse. That is the real bag of hurt....

Never ever had issues with a Logitech.

They're counting tilting the scroll wheel left or right as two buttons (sneaky, I know) which brings it to 5 in total. I use those for back/forward, as I always found sideways scrolling to be a mix of superfluous and poorly implemented.
