They're counting tilting the scroll wheel left or right as two buttons (sneaky, I know) which brings it to 5 in total. I use those for back/forward, as I always found sideways scrolling to be a mix of superfluous and poorly implemented.

Ahh very sneaky. Guess I'll give this one a miss then - again.

I feel perfectly fine with the trackpad, but based on everyone's suggestions here, I might go with a VX Rev.

The MX1100 is great, just make sure to get the rechargeable MX1100R. For some odd reason they're very secretive about it, it's not listed on the official site.

Actually those are "business" products and not consumer products, you can find those at logitech's business side. Usually packaging is bit different, like no driver disc, n'or regular box, everything is in brown eco box.

From top part of homepage select business and vola, more different logitech products!

Yeah, I know it's one of their so-called business products but the MX1100R is only visible on the EU site. If you type logitech.fi or logitech.com you're redirected to the EU site where the MX1100R is listed under Mice + Presentation Devices, but if you go to Logitech's North American business pages there is no MX1100R, only some lame notebook mice and presentation thingamajigs.

Logitech are very strange that way, many of their products differ from country to country, even the colors which doesn't really make any sense.

This is the G7 for the EU:

What foul manner of "research" led them to believe that Americans prefer black and blue but Europeans prefer silver and green?

Same with the G9x -- EU silver, US black:

I'd love to know what sort of magical hat they pull their info out of. I want the US G7 and the EU G9x, as I suspect do most people no matter what part of the world they're from.

Well, that black has that faux carbon fiber design. I guess their chain of thought went gamers with blue LED case mods and ugly tricked out cases = car modders with blue fluorescent "ground effect" lighting and bad body panels.

I like the EU version of both better.

i have the Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 notebook mouse, which is great. You have to dig a bit to find the correct intellipoint driver, but once it is set up, is is great!

One thing i have to add, as someone else already pointed out, is that it eats batteries like crazy. Maybe a pair of AAA will last 3 weeks. I may need to pick up some rechargables, instead of buying them at a dollar store:)

How can you give such a glowing review about a mouse that suffers from this defect?

And that is why BT sucks...!

Here's the battery status of my V550. Note that these are the same two AA batteries it shipped with when I bought it sometime in the beginning of April. I don't know how Logi manages to squeeze out this kind of battery life, it seems to get better for every model. Apple should license the technology, build Logitech nanoreceivers into their computers and make it work with Apple or Logitech input devices.

I have a 5000 as well, and I don't like it very much. Very jumpy, even after the BT firmware upgrade. For mice, i'd rather have a VX Nano or anything without BT.

Woah just goes to show that is time that Apple upgrade these things.
No kidding. They should've done that at least 2 years ago. Problem is, they're so pretentious about innovation that any new product has to be sooooooo special or they won't bother at all. They can't just make a normal, functional mouse that's more conventional than the MM, that would be beneath them.

I've tried BT Mighty Mouse back when it first came out but it was not for me. So I tried Logitech and Microsoft BT's including Logitech BT and MS Laser 5000 but finally opted for a feature-rich Microsoft Laser 8000 Bluetooth Mouse. Since the recent Bluetooth firmware update on my MBP, discovery of the mouse got swift and the mouse got less buggy. I no longer get "Lost Connection" bug and it works flawlessly with the latest Microsoft Intellipoint software (SteerMouse is a good option but it is no longer needed to work around some compatibility bugs.), at least for me. Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 is another mouse, but corded, that I use for mouse intensive tasks.

Ever since I got my multitouch touchpad I use mice less frequently than I used with old MBP's. I wish Mighty Mouse gets updated with multitouch-like functionalities built-in. ;)

x2

I currently have a microsoft wireless notebook mouse I bought a few years ago. I use it A LOT and have only changed the battery 2-3 times. That is what I expect from such a simple mouse. Anything more and i'll pass.

I recommend Microsoft Arc for casual stuff and Microsoft Habu for gaming. These are my favorite mouses and I can say that they are really good.

That's why that brand sucks. I had a Dell travel mouse, BT and it went 6 months before needing batteries.

The V550 is another really nice mouse, but i'm not a big fan of the way it feels in my hand. The VX Nano and V450 feel just right.
It's a matter of taste of course, but you have to break in the V550 as well. Trying it out in a store for 10 seconds doesn't do the trick. I used the VX Nano several hours a day for a year and a half before I switched to the V550. A few days ago I tried going back to the VX Nano and it felt really weird. Too flat, too small, precision totally out of whack, jumpy cursor... hard to imagine this was my tool of choice for dozens of projects.

Anyway, I like the Logitech mice for the fact that they give very good precision so that you can set the acceleration fairly high and move on a really small surface. The tracking speed on the Mighty Mouse can't be set high enough. With the default setting it's just crazy, you have to lift it up two times and go back to the edge of the mousepad to go from screen edge to screen edge. I use it at max setting and still always find myself running out of space.

I agree with those that use the touch pad. I'm so used to the multi touch gestures I don't think I could switch to a mouse for everyday computing.

Well, with mice like the VX and MX Revolutions, you can assign a lot of functions to the extra buttons as well as using mouse gestures.

But yeah, you're right, versus a regular mouse or even the Mighty Mouse, a newer version trackpad does offer a lot more instant functionality at your fingertips.

The MX Revolution is the best general purpose mouse I have ever used. The VX Revo is also great all around and a bonus is that you can order the VX Nano receiver and sync it with the Revo.
Cool!!! B)
Have you done this yourself? Was there any noticeable change to tracking accuracy or responsiveness? Any other potential problems?

I'm looking for a cordless (non BT) mouse with (optional) nano receiver that will work well for precision graphical work. Do you think that the VX Revolution could be the one?

TIA
