It's taken me this long, but I finally watched The Godfather in one sitting. I had seen parts of it before in my Film class I took in high school or on tv, but never in one sitting. Awesome movie, I thought Marlon Brando's acting out shined everyone else. Masterfully directed too.

Non-stop - "I will find you, and I will kill you." That's from Taken, but I imagined Liam Neeson saying it during this movie, and it would've fit perfectly. Its a little farfetched and some clichés (think Flightplan and Red Eye), but overall, it was entertaining, the few action scenes were great, and the suspense was good throughout.

I still haven't seen The Godfather and I get crap for it. I got it in Bluray. Now I just need to pick a time and do it.

The last movie I watched was Disconnect.

The synopsis doesn't do this movie justice at all. I didn't think it was a masterpiece of cinema or anything, but it was a good watch.

I really enjoyed Taken. Taken 2 was been there done that. I will probably watch Nonstop when it arrives on cable.

The Lego Movie. For me Unikitty stole every scene :)

I want to see this!

The Godfather is classic cinema telling a violent story. Thumbs up!

We just streamed Dallas Buyers Club, a human interest story in the early years of Aids and how it effects a homophobic Texan who discovers he has Aids through unprotected sex, is near death and how he fights it. This is the best movie I've seen all year and I predict oscars for Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. I'll add another comment in the PRSI section. :)

Yes, you must take some time to watch at least the first two movies of The Godfather. The third one isn't as good, so whenever you're bored and have nothing else to watch...

I just watched Gandhi again.

A really terrific film, IMO.

Story has it that Kingsley's resemblance to Gandhi was so remarkable, when they were filming in India, many folks freaked out thinking it was Gandhi's ghost.

Definitely worth seeing.

Netflix?

I also caught part of Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds this morning on HBO. The emergence and escape from New Jersey is at the height of excellence for a scifi action movie. The build up of suspense, followed by the explosive conflict, human realization of what this alien presence on Earth means, the feeling of hopelessness and interaction of large numbers of people pushed into a crisis situation really hit home with me. Most people remain civilized, but there are cracks when survival trumps civility.

Watching a video ripped from DVD of Beethoven's 3rd and 4th Symphony's conducted by my favorite conductor Herbert von Karajan.

No, I have cable. It was on one the 70-80 HD Premium cable stations I have...but I don't recall which one.

70-80 Premium Cable Stations? Holy smokes. My 2 premium stations are Showtime and HBO. :p

In prep for tomorrow night's Oscars, we also watched Gravity. It was ok, some outstanding special effects. I am really not impressed with George Clooney. He's one of those actors who plays himself or the same guy in every movie. I have yet to see him express something that I would call emotions. Sandra Bullock was good, but I think I'd give Cate Blanchett the oscar for lead actress. I can't say why, but throughout this movie I was subtlety detached.

I've not seen all 10 of the movies up for best picture, but based on what I've seen it would be DBC followed by 12YAS in a close second. I still need to see Capt Phillips, Nebraska, and The Wolf of Wallstreet. :)

When the FIOS installers were setting up my TV service, the installer looked at the work sheet and said he has never seen anyone with ALL the possible Premium HD stations.

Considering that I ONLY watch movies, and nothing else...it's still a bit over the top!

I watched Gravity and thought it was okay too. Nice special effects and Sandra was easy on the eyes. Captain Phillips was excellent and something I would call "must see."

I will see Capt Phillips, but I was disappointed in Tom Hank's last role (Cloud Atlas) so was just not going to the theater to see it.

Cloud Atlas eh? I missed that as I've never heard of it. So it sounds like I shouldn't waste my time with it.

Probably one of those books that is hard to translate onto the screen. I'd call it fantasy about how individual's actions carry forward through lifetimes and on to other people, played by the same actors. As a rule I like SciFi and Fantasy, but this did not click for me. However, while I don't recommend it, I would not presume to predict your reaction to this movie. :)

Recently watched Ip Man for the first time which was ok, some pretty good fight scenes. Also Skyfall, (again), I like Daniel Craig as Bond. But also watched 'Shivers' by David Cronenburg, much fun, lots of sex zombies.

Ip Man was pretty good. I would have never watched it but for my Nephew. :)

I watched The Conversation. It came out between Godfather Part 1 and 2. Pretty amazing that Francis Ford Coppola had 2 films both nominated for best picture in 1974. I enjoyed it, though I thought Gene Hackman's acting was relatively bland.

...

Finally caught The Order this evening. Interesting bit of creepy, slightly supernatural, shady Catholic business.

Peter Weller was very good and the whole deal about Sin Eaters was wonky.

I don't know if I was imagining it, but it seemed like at least three cast members from A Knight's Tale were in this.

It was very good (can't help thinking how much better it would have been as a 70s Argento film - which is how I feel about Angels & Demons too), but I'll watch this one again.

I just watched The Informer, a 1935 film nominally about the IRA in the 1920's...but truly a remarkable character study, and film of social commentary.

John ford is, of course, known for his Westerns (some of which are, IMO, truly impressive films cinemagraphically), but this one demonstrates his ability to brilliantly direct a film of great character depth and complexity. The direction, and especially the black and white (my preference over color films) photography and lighting, are amazing.

Victor McLaglen, not perhaps the greatest actor of the time, gives a truly bravura performance of great depth and complexity, even though he is playing a stupid brute. He gives the character depth and feeling, and it is a tour de force performance.

Although not as well known as other films of the time, this brilliant film deserves enormous recognition, and I cannot recommend it strongly enough for those still interested in films with great acting, script, direction, lighting, and photography over junk that depends totally on CGI to wow the audience.

Even Max Steiner's music, often overly lush and sentimental, is controlled and effective!

The Great Gatsby.

I know it's gotten mixed reviews, but I have to say...it had some absolutely beautiful moments. Gatsby himself was well cast and DiCaprio hit all the right notes in the final act.

300: Rise of an Empire - It doesn't live up to the first 300, which I enjoyed, but its still good. Despite a very superficial storyline, the visuals are superb, and there's a ton of action and gore, as expected. Eva Green is great as the ruthless Artemisia.
