Just read that the little girl who's getting shot in Assault.. (shocking scene btw) is Paris Hilton's aunt.

Killer Constable (1980) - very good. Not the among the very best of the best Shaw Brothers in my book, but definitely worth seeing.

Chen Kuan Tai's title character must bring to justice the five people accused of stealing 200 million taels of gold from the royal treasury. Naturally, there's a conspiracy afoot, but you can catch the ringleader of the crime very early in so that kind of ruins the mystery.

That said, there are some beautiful visuals akin to something out of an Argento film (the use of blue and yellow lighting, smoke and some long shots of the dead make me think the director took several cues from Suspiria. Not a bad thing), and Chen Kuan Tai is excellent. This is actually a remake of The Invincible Fist (1969) which I've seen and liked, but really don't remember. So I think I'll rewatch for certain shots and Pai Piao's terrific cameo as a very crafty assassin. Not as bleak as some reviews said (personally I felt any scene that attempted emotion as feeling forced to me); I think Secret Service of the Imperial Court (1984) felt far more personal and heartfelt and took many, many cues from this. Ultimately, Secret Service... is my preferred film.

I'm always glad to see a new Shaw Brothers film so the addiction continues.

he he he...
Sorry I have seen all 3 and have no idea ... unless you're making a joke about The Pacific vs B.O.B.[/b] ...?
he he he yeah, me too.

Just watched Ex Machina, one of the coolest movies I've seen in a while. Mystic River is up next on the Netflix subscription... heard it's awesome. Any recommendations from anyone with similar taste (good stuff lol)?

Clan Feuds (1981) well this Shaws takes the cake for most entertaining Soap Opera wuxia yet. Too many characters to contemplate, but quite enjoyable.

Some nice depth given to folks pulling cameo roles here (Sun Chien, Pai Piao, Lily Li etc.) While Ti Lung and Lo Meng give it 1000%. I think Lo really enjoyed this role, the hot-headed, too young warrior easily led by his emotions and not much else. Ti was quite charming here. He displays some wonderful kung fu (a three point kick and some nifty swordplay made me smile.)

I was able to follow most of the characters and the silly drama as we meet more and more of these two clans. A lot of fun. I hope iTunes gets this one eventually.

I just watched an excellent little indie horror called "It Follows." Not jump-scary or gory, but it skillfully evoked an atmosphere of dread.

Like, when did movie makers decide that seeing people being tortured by other people made for good horror? I still prefer letting my imagination do a lot of the work. Sounds like IF meets the criteria. :) The remake of House on Haunted Hill was decent.

Just finished Whiplash. Awesome movie - albeit a bit questionable with it's whole premise. :D

Try "The Machine".

Cape Fear (1962)- Good movie. The 1991 remake stepped it up several notches with Robert Dinero. If you have not seen this, I don't recommend you watch the trailer which reveals too much about the plot.
