For Star Trek, I forget if you approve or disapprove of Director Abrams. I acknowledge he has directorial talent, loved Lost, liked Cloverfield (I think he produced that one), Super 8, Star Trek reboot, but sorely dissapointed (as we all know, lol) with Episode 7. :)

I hated Super 8. I can't see why it was so loved when it came out. Cloverfield was pretty bad too, IMO, but I usually hate found footage films (I did like Chronicle a lot but it really didn't have to be a FFF). The sequel to Cloverfield looks pretty good, though.

Just got my hands on iTunes Digital copies of the Martian. It was awesome. I also got Everest and Woodlawn I'm excited to watch. Has anyone seen woodlawn?

I should not have included Super 8 in my list. It was ok, the focus on the kids was a bit much for my tastes, but the premise was good. There was one primary thing wrong with Cloverfield, nausea-can, other than that, while acknowledging the limits, I could not ask more from a documentary style scifi film.

On my iPad, this is a better link. Looks interesting, but not enough to sense how good this movie might be (which can be said of most trailers) ;:)

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

Dogma (1999)
The Sixth Sense (1999)

Neither film has aged that well for me but most of them don't.

As somebody who would probably enjoy an hour-and-a-half of somebody making a sandwich were it written by Aaron Sorkin, I found every minute "Steve Jobs" to be engaging. It was not technically accurate, but I thought it did a good job capturing the spirit of Jobs' relationships. The choice to use three scenes playing out in realtime was interesting but maybe restrictive, and I felt like there was some sort of missing payoff at the end....

hahahaha, best description ever.

I am a huge fan of Aaron Sorkin as well, with The West Wing being something I would watch religiously. I really enjoyed the Steve Jobs movie and thought it was incredibly well-done in all departments.

Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986)- One of my favorite comedies about a street person (Nick Nolte) who invades and captures a wealthy family (Richard Dreyfus and Bette Midler) in Beverly Hills with his colorful past and wisdom about life. Based on a 1932 French Film, Boudu sauvé des eaux.
Tongue'n cheek from start to finish. :)

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)- Again! Wonderfully filmed, adrenaline rush. A treat for the eyes. This movie is so well done, surpassing the original. 97% at Rotten Tomatoes. I think Thomas Hardy has achieved AAA status joining Charlize Theron. :):)

The Gigahorse driven by Immortan Joe (More pics)- real cars, real stunts. Can you imagine what fun someone had building these? RollingStone article about the stunts. :D

Could have sworn there was a Jurassic World thread in this forum, but can't find it. Anyway, stumbled across this interesting wikia article:

The ‘Jurassic World’ Script Was Originally Much, Much Crazier

Although there was DNA manipulation in the original story, I'm glad they did not go this direction because it would have little to do with Jurassic Park, more like The Island of Dr. Moreau.

This afternoon feels like Blade Runner (1982).

When does a life form deserve human rights? When you can fall in love with it? :) :D:p

BTW, which ending is better, the original or the Director's Cut? Some stuff I've read online seems to indicate the DC has a "happier ending" or maybe it's just more definitive.

Terrific movie, superb story, thoughtful, thought-provoking, excellent script, stunning soundtrack, brilliant and haunting noir setting, a nice, nagging degree of uncertainty, and a very good cast.

Not the yardstick or measure I would use. (STNG had a nice episode which you may recall entitled 'The Measure of a Man' which addressed this very topic in a profoundly intelligent manner).

Indeed, I am familiar. I was just throwing that out. :) If we discovered tomorrow there was a race of mice more intelligent than we are (Hitchhiker's Guide), would we be able to give them equal footing? ;)

I added an extra question in my post to @SandboxGeneral , if you know the answer.

You know, I'm not really sure I've seen both versions. In fact, I'm not sure which version of the two I have here at home...

That would be a good first step and reason I suspect.

Well, I rather like ambiguity in movies, and too many directors (especially in the US) seem afraid to embrace it, believing that their audiences will not much care for it, as they tend to prefer adamantine certainty.

Re The Hitchhiker's Guide question, I think it might be expressed another way: If there was a race of hyper-intelligent mice, - far more intelligent than we are - would they be able to give us equal footing?

After you see it, maybe you could report just how happy the ending of your version is. :):) I watched it a couple of years ago and seem to remember him
taking off with a replicate indicating an emotional, implied romantic commitment to her.
