Transit (2018): Christian Petzold's adaptation and direction of Anna Seghers' 1944 novel, which had been set in the France of 1942 and was based on her own experiences as a political refugee from a German concentration camp landing in Vichy-run Paris and trying to get to Mexico. But Petzold updates the timeframe without making that explicit, so it rocks us back on our heels immediately to see props from a much later time; the fact that the arc of the film is then limned by the voiceover and viewpoints of an unreliable narrator only adds aspects of realistic confusion. But we do get it inside of a few minutes that "Papers, please!" is the main threat here and the primary driver of a riveting tale of flight to Marseilles and beyond as the occupation continues to close doors. A tale at once from the past and more broadly of our own times as well. Franz Rogowski as Georg is beyond excellent in a taxing, multifaceted role. In German and French, with English subtitles. I found it on iTunes.

Ready or Not (2019). I have no idea if this movie is a horror, a comedy, or a drama. I am not sure I know what exactly I watched other than two hours of fun. Very entertaining.

Rewatching Mission Impossible: Fallout since it's free with Prime.

That fist fight near the beginning is phenomenal.

I __just__ rewatched it. I was prompted by seeing it on Prime, then I realized we owned it, and the iTunes stream was better PQ :D

Yeah, MI movies have become the action franchise, and you're right on, the fight in the bathroom is insane.

I could not help thinking of Ayn Rand - when I saw your comment - and ultimately to the book and Movie - which I applaud for the attempt at putting into film - but the book was so much more interesting - at least for me - lol.

Your description reminds me of an alternate reality movie like Moulin Rouge.

Yah I like movies where you only think you know what's going on half the time and are being led down the garden path to think that, too. There are lots of films like that really but the twists and turns make them all different.

Rewatched the original on September 27 2017 according to my film journal. I watched the remake the next night, also according to my film journal. God the new one was utter ****.

I never saw the new one. From the previews it looked bad and so I didn't want to waste my time and potentially be disappointed.

Don't. You'd be better off watching it with 2/3 a bottle of Scotch in you. It makes more sense the more drunk you are. If a recession does come along, I foresee a lot of remakes because it's cheaper to do. Sigh.

No one has watched a movie since Tuesday? What's wrong with you people?

I'll get the ball rolling again..

I love that movie - being a sci-fi fan and all

When I first saw Alien in the 70's it reminded me of the Analog / short story "Who Goes there" which later became "The Thing" - I always thought "Who Goes there" was a better title.

Anywho - Alien was ground breaking at the time as a serious sci-fi film opposed to "Star Wars" and "Battle Star Galactica"

I just tried to Watch the Dark Crystal but could not finish the first episode

Godzilla King of Monsters (Not enough kaiju especially Godzilla, though I loved Mothra and Ghirdorah). The human elements were utterly awful.

The Punisher 1989 Definitely of its era. That is both good and bad. There is a strange moment for Dolph Lundgren's Frank that doesn't quite feel like the character, but works in context for the movie.

I prefer this over the other Punisher films and Netflix (though I do really like Ray Stevenson's take on the Punisher).

Phantasm Remastered It has been many years since I've seen this, and Angus Scrimm's Tall Man is still a creepy, great boogie man. I was surprised at just how much abandonment issues play into the plot, which is interesting. Not scary though and my favorite element is the soundtrack now.

Very nice job on the restoration.

Runs upstairs to boot up Prime. I hate streaming, but I want to see MI: Fallout.

Thanks for the tip.

Midsommer (2019) - Extended Cut. I loved it, but I also understand that it’s not a movie for everyone and certainly not for people that want an “easy” movie. Visuals and acting are outstanding. The general plot is predictable, but the delivery is good.
