I think I'll watch Marley and Me tonight after remembering it when I saw people crying about it the other thread.

Chris Pine played James T, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) played George Kirk.

I need to check out the Thor thread. Would this be worth seeing in the theater or wait for rental?

The other night we watched Starship Troopers and Robocop, a Paul Verhoeven marathon! :)

The thing about Starship Troopers is that it is bad, while it is good. If you look at Paul Verhoeven's movies, like this and Robo Cop, he used a certain, for lack of a better term "corny" style, but that was a calculated choice. There is a certain vibe in ST that I really enjoy. Some of the visuals are fantastic. However I admit that Casper Van Dien performance is on the weak side. The scene in Robo Cop where the demonstration of the ED-209 is shocking and priceless. :)

You HAVE to see Thor in the theaters. GREAT movie! Lots of little tidbits in their about the upcoming Avengers movie too. Marvel did a great job, once again. And if you do decide to see it in the theater, wait for the credits to end ;)

Just watched Despicable Me for the first time, well actually I didn't finish it because my ride wanted to leave. Anyway, I liked it from what I saw, I want to see the end for sure.

Watched Monsters Inc on BD last night, great story and it still looks incredible. Pixar ftw :)

Thanks. I'll try to talk my wife into making the journey or maybe go by myself. :(

Last night we watched Kick Ass streamed over Netflix. Very interest, a story mostly about kids that you would never want your kid to see, at least not until they were 18. ;) I enjoyed it, however I was disappointed that Kick Ass (the wannabe superhero) spoiler>never really found his mojoe <end spoiler.

The Social Network

All I can say is wow. To have so much money at one's disposal, but this movie is about how it all came to be, not the end result.

Should an individual be allowed to have that much money? I'm hoping someone can see the moral problem with this, while the conservatives yell, "go for it!" ;)

I heard that movie was a ton of hollywood BS and that it doesn't even come close to portray Zuckerberg and all the other founders. It's made to appeal to what average joes and janes find "romantic" I guess.

But as for having that much money, that's how capitalism is supposed to work. The people (investors in this case) "vote" on who leads the way of the world via contributing their money to their cause. It is expected that these leaders meet their investors' faith by implementing thier vision. If this vision makes money for the investors, it means that they have gotten "votes" from the masses (via consumption). And the cycle goes on. Sometimes leaders get corupt too, which brings up a "moral" issue, but voting polititians into office is no different a matter than turning a bunch of college dropouts into billionaires.

Mostly I was focused on the conflicts, the brothers saying their idea was stolen out from under them and then the partner thoroughly screwed at least until it was settled. If what you say is true, they should have made up a name for a fictional character.

Which leads to a discussion of just how good is capitalism for the masses? A lot depends on the prevailing morality of the leaders on how good or sucky it ultimately is.

Well, so far...it has made a free market with huge class divides (i.e. USA) the largest economic power and more advanced civilization (from a state view at least) in the world...and also the "West" which adopts capitalism the most...pretty much leaders as well. Even China (communist officially) has recently exploded due to their adoption of capitalistic ideals.

I think what I've seen is that capitalism the way we expereince it pretty much naturally pushes visionaries and hard workers to the top while pushing all the followers and lazy ppl to the bottom. Not that it's perfect as ppl slip trhough the cracks as well as ppl of all walks of life can become criminals under the right circumstances, but it so far makes the prime example like the US, be able to exert great influence throughout the rest of the world as well as contribute the most to the "human body of knowledge"... like the Roman Empire sort of.

I watched Tangled again in the car ride on my iPad 2 today. That is the best Disney movie, excluding Pixar, since The Lion King.

The last movie I watched was The Green Hornet and I must say I am amazed at how good of a movie that was. Usually I hate Seth Rogen but this was one of his much better performances.

I too have problems with Rogen. My feeling is this movie did not do so good at the theaters. On my list to rent.

I shall be watching Pirates of the Caribbean-4on the projector tomorrow.

:D

How about a report? Entertainment Weekly says it's better than 3, equal to 2, not as good as 1.

Watched Hellboy (again). This is one of the finest comic to movie conversions. Strong stylized atmosphere, great visuals and story. In contrast, Hellboy 2 was such a disappointment.

A few flicks I've watched in the last week:

The Green Hornet - not a bad flick, definitely way better than I was expecting

The Mechanic - Decent action flick, violent, worth a rental if you like stathom.

The Other Guys - One of the funniest comedies i've seen in a while, really had me rolling.

Little Fockers - pretty much the same as the others

Death At a Funeral - hilarious, really had me laughing.

Pirates 4 - I rather enjoyed it, better than the 3rd imo.

Thor - Great flick, i don't recommend the 3d though, really detracts from the action imo.

Yeah... I watch a lot of movies ;)

I downloaded the Trailer Park Boys series on piratebay. I'm halfway through the 5th season and I'm enjoying it very much. It's a really good Canadian comedy series about trailer park life you guys should check it out.
