I could be mistaken, but my impression is that Rowling adopted an attitude that the kids who started with her first book, had matured into teenagers and this was her audience.

That's true. The problem as I see it is that parents are letting their very young children see the final movies in the series now that all the movies are out (i.e. the parents who are not familiar with Harry Potter don't realize that the last few Harry Potter movies are not really age appropriate for young children. They base everything off of the first movie).

Maybe a below average in parental head work. ;) I did note that the first movie was PG and the last one was PG-13. Some judgement involved in that if you want to take your 5 year old.

Pulp Fiction (1994) - 9/10

Excellent movie, awesome cast and a good storyline!

Agreed; I really liked 'Pulp Fiction' - (something of an amoral movie, but deliciously so; besides, it is splendidly told, has a terrific cast, fantastic script, great soundtrack, very good plot, and the non-linear narrative actually works....)

I'm also a big fan of 'Jackie Brown' - a cool middle-aged female lead (how rare is that?) and again, a great cast, terrific soundtrack, wonderful script, excellent plot....and a rather sweet relationship depicting middle aged people who rather like one another.....

One of Tarantino's better efforts. :) Have not yet seen the Unchained movie. Kill Bill was... ok.

I thought Unchained was just ok. Tell me what you think of it after you see it.

As it happens, I haven't seen either of them yet, but will do so when opportunity presents itself.

Checked out Despicable Me yesterday and loved it. If the second movie comes close, it'll be a keeper. Only thing bugging me a bit was that 2/3 of the girls weren't that likable, but the third made up for that :D.

Did they mention what those little minions were actually? Don't think so :D.

Will do!

Will be curious how you receive Kill Bill (2 movies- volume 1 and 2). Definitely audacious, but I had to struggle to accept the over-the-top Tea House sword brawl. Other aspects of the movie were unique and entertaining.

Went on a bit of a movie binge this past long weekend. :p

The Lone Ranger - Despite all the negative reviews, I enjoyed this (lowered expectations, maybe?). Its fun, but corny. Depp is definitely not as good at being Tanto as he is Jack Sparrow, that's for sure.

John Carter - In keeping with Disney's box office flops, we rented this sci-fi movie. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. In fact, I was really into it by the end, and I was a little bummed it was over.

White House Down - Ridiculous, but engaging. I just can't take Jamie Foxx's President seriously, even though it's meant to be. "Get your hands off my Jordans!!" Suspension of disbelief required, big time.

Abduction - Downright terrible. Terrible plot. Terrible acting.

The Call (2013)- I was emotionally effected watching this movie, which does not happen often. It's about an individual who abducts girls/young women and a 911 operator who tries to help. It was tense.

Jack the Giant Slayer - I don't have much to say about it, but I enjoyed it. An entertaining twist on a classic tale.

Despicable Me 2 - Not nearly as good as the first, but it still had its funny moments. One thing bugs me though. 8-year olds dating?:eek: Is that acceptable nowadays? I'm not old (30), but that was a little disturbing to see.

I was very surprised by that movie. Definitely tense, I agree! It turned out to be much better than I was expecting it to be.

I liked Jack the Giant Slayer too.

I have not seen the DM2 movie, but I suspect if two children are friends, their parents could arrange for them to go do something together, a child's date?

Um, well... it was more like 2 kids (who didn't know each other) see each other from across the mall, their eyes meet through the fountain's bouncing water, and it's love at first site. So the 8 year old girl runs off with the boy (leaving her 4 and 6 year old sisters alone in the mall) and they go to a romantic restaurant for dessert and salsa dancing.

The way it was done seemed less innocent than it sounds. I'm not complaining, some people might have found it perfectly normal. I just thought it was weird and a little inappropriate.

...

Since Thursday night:

Pacific Rim. Really enjoyed it. My sole quibble not nearly enough of the Russian and Chinese Jaeger teams and their 'bots in action. May very well see again despite the stupidly expensive ticket prices in NYC.

Golden Voyage of Sinbad - my favorite Harryhausen and Sinbad film. Love John Phillip Law and Carolyn Munroe. So fun. Nice to enjoy this as much as I did when I saw it theatrically as a pipsqueak. A great way to come down from my Pac Rim buzz...

Men in Black 3 - I like this a lot more each time I see it. I didn't like it when I saw it the theaters, but it is very enjoyable. Took me a few viewings to really get beyond Josh Brolin and Bill Hader's fun performances.

The Warriors - Still my favorite Walter Hill film. I love how he captured the danger of 1970s NYC and how much of a wasteland it was back then. Terrific, simple story full of conflict and unease.

Watched the first 10 minutes of the Evil Dead remake and that was plenty for me. I appreciate the atmosphere they are trying to create, but the characters were very unlikable and the whole thing left me feeling cold and not in a scared way, but in a 'meh, whatever' kind of way. Needless to say, I won't bother with seeing it.
