Yeah, count me in with those wondering about complaints about browsing speed. The first version of the iPad is a great device that does everything I want it to, and I've enjoyed it now for almost an entire year. The haters missed out on that great year.

What gets me to upgrade? Retina display.

More memory would be nice, but I'm hardly hurting now.

7" screen? Too small, no interest.

Camera? Would be rarely used by me. Nice, but not a deal-breaker.

So it really comes down to having the sharpness of the iPhone 4 screen on the iPad. That would be good. I'll probably skip iPad 2 and then upgrade in the fall or next spring with the iPad 3 (whenever it comes out).

It's not the speed per se, it's the lack of RAM. Try loading more than 3 or 4 pages (you can't, it has to reload every time you switch back and forth), or even just one page with lots of pictures, and you'll stop wondering. I love the iPad, but it should have never shipped with just 256MB of RAM.

The browser speed sucks. It renders slower than my phone browser(stock android on EVO)... also I can have multiple windows or tabs open on my phone and I can switch betweeen them without refreshing each tab.

Ipad would need an OS rework for me to get another one, I just sold my ipad in preparation for tomorrow!

This one is easy for me: more RAM and/or a beefier CPU ala the iPhone 4.

Based on my use case, I am constantly bumping into the upper capabilities of the current hardware/software combo.

A better screen (even without more pixels) would be my next hardware based desire. But power alone will get me to upgrade.

Browser speed is a must. Ipad has slow loading pages, especially if they have lots of graphics. It also won't load the entire page, it's annoying to scroll down and wait the half a second for the rest of the page to load, then scroll up and again wait half a second for the upper page to reload, try this on a long webpage ugh. Also the memory dumps on the browser are a pain, I've had safari and atomic browser just quit on me if I have a couple of tabs open and hit a fairly intensive webpage.

Another feature I'd like is Flash, yeah yeah I know Flash is dead, Flash slows down my computer, Flash is evil and kills babies, all the usual mythical nonsense. What is true is that in my regular browsing habits (not porn, thanks) I encounter that freakin no flash window every couple of minutes. Just browsing of tech or gadget blogs and the vast majority of them use Flash, even MacRumors had some flash stuff on their front page, although they may have fixed that since then. Anyhoo before the anti-Flash crusaders come in and take over the thread, it's only a feature that I would wish for the Ipad 2.

Last I'd LOVE to have a real stylus and stylus input. Pressure sensitive would be nice, but I could live without it, but I'd love to be able to truly take notes and have them converted to text. This is the way tablets were meant to be used IMO.

I'd like Apple to take an honest look at the market and compete. The logo accounts for only so much and the interface is quickly aging in this market. Once Honeycomb debuts that age will become clearer.

My wanted specs for buying an iPad 2:

BETTER screen. It doesn't need to be higher res but please fix that pixel refresh rate! Watching movies/TV shows on it is like a flashback to old LCD monitors.

Better processor to compete with upcoming tablets.

At least 1GB of RAM...it's a multi-tasking tablet, not a trinket and certainly not priced like one. RAM is cheap.

128GB storage

SiRF III GPS chip in non-3G models

Nothing rumored has me chomping at the bit to upgrade. I'm happy with my iPad and will happily wait until iPad3 to consider upgrading.

Of course... apple could surprise us all and release an iPad with a "revolutionary" and "magical" feature that somehow also has the ability to steal 600 bucks from my checking account...

More ram, faster processor, cameras. thats what I expect and that will get me to buy a new one.

Anything that does away with the checkerboard pattern well loading websites  that drives me nuts.

Higher Res (not retina ... cause that doubtful) screen.
Camera front and back
Dual Core CPU?
1GB Ram

If not then ill buy an iPad 1. If i aint buying a decent iOS gaming device might aswell just buy it for Manga reading and browsing. I want my moneys worth with this update if theyre gonna let me part my cash.

As an owner of an ipad, I have yet to hear of a feature purported to be on the ipad 2 that would make me want to upgrade or to even be envious of anyone who gets one. So far I've heard of a non reflective screen (already have one with a PS antiglare) a front facing camera (I have an iPhone 4 and rarely use it, it's really just a novelty), faster processor (might help, but I'm happy with the speed). What else? The retina display rumor has already been dispelled and I'm not even sure that would be a deal-maker. On the iPhone, yes, since the screen's so small, but on the ipad I'm not so sure.

My sentiments exaclty

Have fun with your dinosaur.

A browser upgrade would be nice. Like being able to upload photos and documents! More ram I guess now that it is a multitasking tablet, even though I haven't had any issues with my iPad with that. FaceTime is something that I've actually been using for homework and talking to family. So that with my iPad would also be nice. Oh, and BETTER speakers.

But it's an apple product, so of corse it's already perfect to me :p haha

I think the current iPad is great, it's just too expensive for the amount of use I think it would get.

So I'd say making it a lot cheaper would be the feature that would make me buy one. I don't expect I'll be getting one this year though. :)

Browser update

From anandtech...

"Simply put: the Xoom puts the iPad to shame. The combination of an ultra fast javascript engine with a pair of 1GHz Cortex A9s makes the Xoom feel less like a tablet and more like a PC when browsing the web. Particularly over WiFi the web browsing experience is just awesome. It’s like using a netbook, which in this case isn’t meant as a knock but rather a compliment."

too bad the XOOM slows down to a crawl if you test youtube within HTML 5.
iPad knocks it for 6 in that department.
XOOM also has it's speakers directly on the bottom. Just place it on any desk
and the sound gets muffled good design motorola ! duh

Only Ipad 1 was tested VS the Xoom with the javascript engine.
Check out this quick ipad 2 Javascript test :
