I'm in the "no screen protector on any iPhone, ever". Never scratched any screen.

I get the feeling that screen protector somehow decreases the experience.

But I always use a case with the edges protruding over the screen (so no slim cases for me). Currently I use the Apple original silicone case.

Anker Karapax with the guidance bumper went on perfectly. Easiest cleanest most perfectly aligned screen protector ever.

I also used the Anker Karapax. It was inexpensive ($8 for 2 protectors) and the frame made installation a snap.

Tempted to get the Belkin screen protector this time round from Apple. Didn’t use a screen protector on my 7 Plus and the screen was really scratched up. Some of them were very visible. If I’m spending a crap load on a phone, boy you better expect I’m protecting that. With me, one small minor scratch is enough to get me paranoid.

Is the Belkin anti glare material a film or is it thin glass

It’s a very thin film. I think it has negligible effect on screen. It’s matte slightly so beauty is in eye of beholder. I personally like it. The more expensive belkin product is glass. But it’s not anti glare.

Are the slightly matte ones HD when looking at the screen? I’m assuming the glass ones are quite bulky? I have a screen protector that I got from eBay, feels like it’s a matte effect but the quality of the screen isn’t that great due to the SP

Does the Zagg or Belkin generously cover the edges? My Maxproof is pretty nice and easy to install, BUT one phone has the rainbow line if you look at it slightly angled from top of center

I hate guys like that.

And they really shouldn’t say it because 1) they’re not trained to put it on and 2) that’s why they have machines...to take the pressure off of aligning it correctly or putting it on with no bubbles.

I used to work at a fruit stand (as some specialists would joke) and I could put screen protectors on iPhones all day everyday as long as they’re the Belkin ones that are compatible with that “machine” but I would not want to nor do I have to do it for non-Apple screen protectors or heck, even the ones they sell but isn’t for the machine.

And honestly you wouldn’t want them to either, especially if you brought it elsewhere.
I had one put in at att retailer and they did a crap job on my gfs phone. The Apple guy saw it and said when I get a replacement from att store to come back there and he’d do it. Was also a friend of a friend we discovered so maybe trying to be nice.

As a diehard ‘no screen protector’ proponent for years I have decided this time around to change my tune.

iPhone X
Belkin Glass
Installed by Apple

First off Apple’s machine does a fantastic job with perfect alignment, zero dust, bubbles or rainbow spots.

Secondly the screen protector is almost completely unnoticeable with an Apple leather case. With the case? There I no way I could keep this thing on as it does not ‘wraps the edges’ as so many look for.

But after years of rolling with insurance only and no screen protector/case why am I now on the other side?

Oleophobic coating

For whatever reason on my iPhone 7 the oleophobic coating wore down tremendously and the phone became increasingly difficult to keep clean. I have heard of others having this issue however had never faced it myself having been an owner of every phone (minus the SE) since the original.

Now - could I have filed an insurance claim? Sure.. Was the phone broken? No. This paired for the extreme wear seen near the camera bump (paint coming off the matte black) I realized I would rather rock a case/protector for as long as I can to get me until next years upgrade.

Replacing your phone (even with Apple) is annoying.. My phone is personal, it’s setup to my liking and swapping is never an experience I *want* to do.

Maybe I will last 6 months, maybe only 3? Either way I will enjoy my phone until a little while longer in near perfect condition before my usage happens begin to degrade the device.

Agreed. I’ve always been against screen protectors but the Belkin one (installed by Apple) is awesome. I just got it for the first time ever and it feels just like the standard Apple screen (maybe even better).

I considered buying Apple Care + but here’s my issue with their $29 screen replacement...I feel like after a screen is “replaced” by Apple it doesn’t work as good as the original screen. So your best bet is to just “break” the phone and pay $99 for a new one...which is then $300 total out of pocket for a brand new phone.

At least for $40 (and a slim case) you’re covered for most situations.

Trying to be nice sure. But again, they’re not trained on doing screen protectors. It’s nice to be nice and offer, maybe the att guy was nice too; but you can see how that worked out.

The thing is, maybe you’re not that customer. But I also know of customers who are unhappy with the ones that are applied with the machine even though there’s nothing wrong with it, they say there’s a hairline fraction of it being off—and so it’s reapplied again and they’re just not happy.

Again, I just wouldn’t because the store I worked at downsized to only belkin ones and I wouldn’t want to mess up a customer’s screen protector if they brought it elsewhere—I can’t easily return it and rescan another one to put on.
