Probably just the screen and Face ID, but the screen isn't exactly mind blowing in comparison like you'd initially expect it to be. Slightly sharper, slightly better blacks, but otherwise it's the same P3 gamut and isn't really any brighter.

What really sets the X apart is it's a $200 more expensive beta product that is 6 months away from being replaced with a non-beta version, whereas the 8 is a well sorted, very refined product.

I spent some time making a choice between the 8 and the X a couple months ago. In addition to the features mentioned above, the X also has a more advanced camera. It is also heavier. For my usage I decided that the X was not worth $300 more. I bought the 8 and am extremely happy with it. Very nice screen, size and decent battery life.

Besides $300? OLED display, notch, Face ID, gesture based UI.... That's about it... If you're coming from a 6S the 8 is a fantastic option but if you've got the Benjamin's then the X is awesome.

It’s not a “beta” product at all. I’ve had mine since launch, and it’s quite a beautiful, finished product. The 8 and 8 plus are great devices, but the X is the new hotness...and the future of the iPhone.

It’s a bit more of an investment, but absolutely worth the premium. As Apple moves away from the older style iPhones, you’ll regret not making the right choice now.

Naysayers are plentiful, because many people lacked the patience to wait for the X and grabbed the 8/8+. Now they’re inclined to defend that choice.

It’s up to you, and for a definitive comparison visit the Apple Store app(or better yet, an actual Apple Store.

Plus size screen in a smaller form factor and dumping Touch ID was a big bonus for me!

Another difference is the X has 3gb of ram, 8 only has 2gb

I'm still using the iPhone 7 Plus, personally waiting on the iPhone X Plus version as I really like having the huge screen area. Having said that, I have set up a few iPhone Xs for friends and family and I can tell you a couple points that are my OPINION.

    1. It's a "new" iPhone. Everything from the 6 through the 8 are basically the same phone, just more refined in a few cases. It's almost as if you were to buy a car. Imagine let's say a.. Toyota Camry. A 2016 Camry is going to be better than the 2015, but it's ultimately the same car. However, if you jump to the 2018, it's pretty much an entirely new car.

    2. Using it is surprisingly intuitive. Even though I only used the X to set it up, I actually found the new gestures easier to use and just plain better than the older iPhones. FaceID adds to the intuitive nature of the phone.

Otherwise, I think it's pretty much a wash to be honest. Why pay the extra money? The way I see it, the bump over the 8 is justified because I'm getting a new phone. I think that's an easier to sell than paying more for an 8 over a 7. Having said that, I would never buy an older version, heck I don't let any friends or family buy an iPhone after the new year, as I believe it's better to wait until the new version comes out. However, in the limited scope of 7vs8 and 8vsX, I think the price jump for the latter makes more sense. The X is the future, definitely.

Most people are going to simply defend their own purchase, as such, keep in mind their biases. Since it is the middle of February, I personally think you should hold out till September unless you really need a new phone. But that's just me. Good luck!

There is always the Apple website to see a comparison.

I second this. Nothing about the hardware on the X feels beta in the least. The only problem I have is the decision of whether to use it naked vs. in an Apple leather case as both feel incredible.

iOS 11, on the other hand...

For me, what sets it apart is that I can now have a screen the size of the Plus (99%) in the body of the non-Plus. I always used a plus version but yearned for a smaller footprint. The X fit the bill.

I’ve had all the plus phones including the 8plus.
When you look at the numbers I took a loss dumojng the 8plus.
The X is worth it to me. Size and size of the screen. Love the display. 11 has been running fine for me.

Gestures are so fluid it makes the home button look silly.
    Facial recognition is great.
The nitchbisnt an issue for me

Camera front and back are excellent

The screen on the X is amazing and to me the new gestures incorporated now that there is no home button are a huge plus, any time I use my wife's iPhone 7 the home button feels extremely out dated.

What did you end up getting? I'm also lost on this decision... I'm still using a 5s though :(.. Part of me wants to wait until September and see what they release, the other part of me its trying to figure out if it's gonna be an 8 or an X....
