I assume you're talking about donating it to a shelter/other for 911 purposes only. Certainly someone who can't afford to pay for a phone can't afford the monthly bill, either...

Or maybe soldiers, battered women, flood or hurricane victims. People who perhaps have ATT service but either can't afford a new cool phone or has been lost to some type of catastrophe, manmade or otherwise.

The only problem with hanging onto old electronics is that eventually the battery gives up. It seems they degrade faster if you don't use them.

I have a boxful of gadgets collected over the last decade and none of them work because I've had to discard the batteries: They were swelling up and/or leaking. News reports of spontaneously combusting laptop batteries (remember them?) scared me a bit.

I like the idea of using it as a dedicated remote control for an Apple TV or iTunes/Airport Express combo. Might do that myself.

Sell it on Ebay...I just sold my 3Gs on Ebay and let the buyer know I couldnt part with it until June 24th after I get the Iphone 4 ...he was fine with it..

ain't that for true...

though in some states you can get a free car with all the trimmings if you're a welfare recipient. I'm sure there is something where one can get their cell phone bill paid too lol.

Don't get me started lol

For me it would depend on the condition of it. If in excellent condition I'd probably just keep it.

Otherwise I'd sell it.

I'm wondering if i can still get about $200 for my 8gb 3G. I'd be happy with 150 too. I'm afraid to look on ebay.

FYI - i got $250 for my unlocked 8gb 3G this past friday. This was on Craigslist though, not ebay. Sold within hours.

When I called Radio Shack to place my order, the guy told me that a 32GB 3GS in excellent condition, which mine is, will get you $225. Pretty sweet deal and I don't have to worry about listing, payment or shipping.

Is that for trade in only, or would they give you that amount w/o buying another phone?

I'm going to take my 3G to Bangkok with me in July and have it unlocked (costs about $3) so I can use it with a local SIM card when I travel overseas...

I think I'll keep my 3GS for a while but am considering selling the 3G. Gazelle indicates it will give me $114.

Is Gazelle trustworthy?

I just sold my 3GS 16GB white on eBay for $250.

I listed it starting at $150, with a buy it now of $250. It lasted about 2.5 hours before someone scooped it up for the buy it now price.

Looking back I shoulda not put a buy it now price, me thinks. lol - median price is around $350. Oh well, I wanted it sold FAST...shipping tomorrow.

after looking through completed listings on EbaY for 16gb 3GS phones the average price $265- $400, depending on accessories, condition.

I wont take less than $300 for mine with shipping included. I doubt I will have too. Plan on starting my auction this week, letting it end the day before launch, then ship on launch day.

Dream on. Have you seen how many ip3gs are on ebay? You'll be lucky to get $200. Do you really think you phone is so special that it will sell precisely when you want it to and for how much you want? You are delusional.
