16gb because it's all i need to fit thousands of books and dozens of games. Plus i can stream thousands of movies.

I don't want to pay $100 to apple for each space increase when it costs them something like $16 for the 16gb chip and 33 for the 32gb chip. At $499 i paid the least for my ipad and it still does everything that the 64gb ipad does except i saved $200. I don't have to juggle anything since it all fits on the 16gb :)

My iPad2 is 32gb, my wife's new iPad is 16gb. I store quite a lot of books and music on it, whereas my wife just uses it to play games and surf the web.

I've reserved a black 16gb Wi-Fi for pickup tomorrow. I could get any i suppose, although the 64 4g would be a stretch.

By going for the 16gb im forcing myself to stick to my intentions, which is to use the device primarily for reading and writing. So when im out with the ipad without any Wi-Fi connection it 'forces' me to go to the content I've already added in terms of books, articles (instapaper) or rss (reeder or pulse) or create by writing, which is something i want to do in a big way - just personal journal stuff.

I have a ton of books that i genuinely want to read, and i want to recalibrate my brain off fast moving snippets of info back to books etc.

My only worry is that apples apps (pages, garageband etc) and others will all take up alot of space...ill see how much I've got after I've set it up. And I've always got 2 weeks to change my mind....

16gb. perfect for light apps and light usage. I don't need many movies/music, I stream a lot.

Also I will be re-selling this as I do every year to upgrade so want to get the most value out of it.

16GB iPad here. I already have an iMac and a MacBook air for when I need to work. The iPad is primarily for email browsing, lots of reading/studying and occasional movies when I travel. It doesn't need to be have huge capacity but I really wanted a retina display. It's working really well so far.

64GB because I didn't get LTE. Streaming would eat too much data so best to have local storage as high as possible while on the go.

Also, 64GB was the most cost effective math wise.

Lets say that the base product with 0GB costs $400 for arguments sake. That makes each memory upgrade $100 so...
16GB = +$100 for 16GB
32GB = +$200 (or $100 for each 16GB, same price here)
64GB = +$300 (or $100 for each 21.3GB)

If they had a 128 version it would be
128GB = +$400 ($100 for each 32GB)

I went for the 16 GB version.
I primarily use the iPad for surfing the internet, email work, reading a lot (primarily scientific papers and magazines, like Scientific American etc.), photos and music I keep in the iCloud and the amount of apps I use is very limited.
So 16 GB is plenty for me.

Would have been interesting to see if people went for either Wi-Fi or 3/4g - and whether that influenced their gb size decision or not.

16GB 3("4")G.

I went for the data-capable one as I want to know I'm going to be able to get online if I need to without having to worry about the battery life of a wireless dongle. Plus it's one less thing to have to carry around!

I'm very happy with mine.

I have a 64gb iPhone and 16gb iPad. I like to have all my music on my iPhone, however using iTunes connect on the ipad is sufficient. And I use plex or goodplayer to stream off my nas.

64GB (for both original iPad wifi+3G, and now the new wifi+4G version)

I use mine a lot when traveling, as backup storage for photos which I load onto the iPad from my DSLR using the Camera Connection kit. the more GB the better for that.

For those long overseas flights I load the iPad up with music, podcasts and videos. the Cloud is most times useless for that when you're up in the clouds :) - and of course, there's always great new apps to add. I'm always trimming stuff off the iPad before a trip to make space.

if there was a 128GB version I'd likely buy that

64 because I like to put movies on it and also use it for school work. So far I've only been using about 35-36 GB, but I'm happy with my choice.

64GB. My original plan was 32GB, but theory one I was able to find I'm stock was a 64. I could use the space though; originally I wasn't planning on keeping my music on the iPad - now I can

In your example for the 3rd option, didn't you mean:
64GB = +$300 (or $75 per 16GB)

Your switch from $/GB to GB/$ is confusing.

Got my ipad 16gb

I got my ipad 16gb Wi-Fi today. I've set it up more or less how i want it and i have 7.3gb left. No music except 1 album + 1 more to buy. 750mb of books + Instapaper + Kindle. No videos. So far so good. Ill see how i feel in 2 weeks....

16GB is all I could afford right now but I will upgrade in a few months. For now, the 16GB is my beloved new toy and I am love with it! I love Netflix on it and streaming movies from the web. I am downloading only the apps/games/books that I will actually get the most use out of which is great for me. When I had the 32GB iPad 2, I loaded it with apps that I never even played but once or twice. I know getting the 32GB will be great but for now, the 16GB is fine.

Does it make sense to buy now and upgrade later? If u sell the 16gb later you'll lose money on it and therefore pay more for the upgrade.....

My bad, fixed for what I meant. Basically, as you keep doubling the storage size but only increase the price linearly, the higher capacities become a much better deal.

I went for the Black 32GB 4G LTE Verizon model. I'm not a big gamer or an app hoarder :) I keep my music on my iPhone, and like some of you I use a lot of cloud-based services. I stream movies and if I'm on a plane I carry a few sd cards with me which I use to store some of my fave movies. Netflix and HBOGO apps are great, the quality is amazing!

16GB...planning to keep most of my data in the cloud. I've found I can get lots of movies on it for the occasions when I travel by using Handbrake. I don't need a lot of documents or music on it. So editing photos on the fly would be my largest data suck.....and once I've edited them and completed my work....I keep originals on my HD and only my favorites sync to the Photos library.

Yes, thanks. I couldn't agree with you more on this point.

I originally picked up a 32GB with LTE to replace the 32GB iPad 2 I had been using. However, I quickly found myself running up against the storage limit because I was also copying photos from iPhoto to the new iPad to edit/work on (which was taking up a lot of space). So I exchanged it for a 64GB version with LTE and haven't looked back.

Absolutely. I love this new iPad and am having a blast with it. No regrets whatsoever on the 16GB. I have sold my original and iPad 2 on Craigslist with great success. People are all about Apple on there and my cell phone was getting loads of calls/texts when I put my ads up. Sure, I got lowball offers but good offers as well. iPads are ALWAYS in high demand on CL. I don't mind mitigating my damages so to speak at all
