i think the "it's been to long" points to a new mac mini (maybe with a colored apple logo).

a new apple-tv would be nice, but i wouldn't count on it.

pretty sure:
new ipad air (slightly tweaked hardware design, touch ID, led-flash, 32/64/128 gb versions, hoping for 2gb RAM)
ipad mini specs update
yosemite
retina imac

maybe:

new retina thunderbolt displays (would go nice with the mac mini)
12-inch ipad announcement

It might be just me but...

Sometimes it would be better if they did the iPads and macs on a two year cycle, rather than a yearly one. It would provoke a bit more "wow" factor if they did.

I know tech is fast moving, but they can up processor, memory and disk spec as a yearly thing without so much pizzaz, they have done it in the past.

I would be all for this. I mean really. Every year people with the previous years models comment angrily "pshe. Not impressed apple. Not upgrading my brand new iPad to another brand new ipad". It's almost like just the fact that there's a new iPad, people feel obligated to buy it.

I'm all for a 2 year upgrade cycle for iPads. It would make more sense for a variety of reasons. Especially because tablets sales are slowing and monumental progress isn't made on a yearly basis. Come out with a new iPad when there's a significant difference. Not just "we made it a little bit better. Here's a new iPad!"

There are people that complain that Apple releases new products too slow and others that want it slower. I think with something like a Mac, every year is too fast. 2 years is better. With the iPad, I think an 18 month cycle is best. 12 months is a bit too fast and 24 is too long.

I doubt they will announce an iPad Pro if they have pushed production back into 2015. Why would they do anything that could potentially reduce XMas iPad/Macbook sales?

Could "long over due" mean they are increasing the length of the ipad to match the iphone dimensions?

1080?

iPad Air and Mini updates are almost a definite. iPad Pro might get an announcement.

Mac Mini and iMac would be cool, but I could see them waiting for Broadwell. Maybe we'll at least get an announcement though. Not sure about MacBook Pro since it just got a minor update over the summer. Who knows about the rMBA.

A new Apple TV could be possible, but again, who knows.

For some reason that rainbow :Apple: logo makes me think of the iPod Nano 4th gen. Maybe we'll see it make a comeback! Or maybe they'll update the iPods after two+ years now that they've dropped the Classic. It would kill me if they scrap them all in favor of the Watch :( I'd love to have something like the current Nano with more storage and long battery life. I love my Classic, but I realize how outdated it is. Of course it works well with the system in my car that's from the same era.

Since the iPad is based on the iPhone Chip Cycle, this wouldn't work. I doubt people would be happy to buy a new iPad in April/May only to see it superseded with a much faster iPhone chip 4 months later.

I don't think that's true. Outside of the forum, the average joe doesn't know what chip is inside his/hers iPad let alone know and care about comparing it to the iPhones.

Well, I'm still waiting for it ;)

I do feel like the first 15" retina MacBook Pros sort of harkened to the days of the Titanium PowerBook G4s, given that the latter was also a revolution in relative thinness and power in the areas that counted compared to its 2011 and earlier predecessors.

Apple kept saying all year that they "have the best pipeline in years" for 2014. I really hope there's more than a simple ipad refresh. I'm honestly hoping for ipad pro announcement

I really hope they give the Apple TV a big overhaul, mainly on the software side since it already does 1080p and display mirroring. Open it up for apps, integrate it with HomeKit, etc. etc. I currently have a Roku and it's not perfect but at the moment I consider it to be superior to the Apple TV (the reason I chose it over the ATV), but I'd love to switch to a more versatile ATV instead.

Apple Pay

More announcements regarding Apple Pay. Specifically, the ability to do Apple Pay online payments on the Mac and iPad. Maybe the ability to use the new iPads as Apple Pay POS terminals.

true, but the company is already fighting an image of creative stasis--at least let them talk about something positive. Also ipad sales have gone sluggish and need any push they can get

I would be happy if they at least announce and let us preorder the iPad pro, just like how the iMac was announced in October 2012 and delivered around Christmas time.

It's gotta be more than just the RAM.

touch ID and A8X is pretty much expected. So 2GB RAM is already a surprise knowing that it's Apple we're talking about.

My personal surprise for the event would be the updated mac mini. It's been way too long since it got the last update.

I predict that on the Oct 16th event….. Apple will push Lady Gaga album to everyone's iOS devices as a free download. Millions will hyperventilate, over-react, and will want to slit their wrists.

GagaGate is born!
