Based on current rumors, I will likely be picking up a 12.9" iPad Pro.

I have a 2013 MacBook Air, but I don't see replacing it. The iPad has really replaced it for me.

I shall be purchasing one of the new iPad Pros but it still irks me that there's a camera bump on them. Either remove the bump Apple or remove the camera. It's not acceptable for such an enormous device to be unable to lie flat on a table. I also cannot see any logical use for a camera on a tablet either. Just remove it.

You don't use your iPad Pro with a case?

Did he just say "Tech-Tober" ?

If Apple's introducing "Retina-based" MBA, then its a sign they would discontinue the non-Retina (2017) one i use.

Oherwise i can see:

Macbook Air (2017)
Macbook Air with Retina Display (2018)

If they wanna make more money.

$20 says the new low-cost Macbook Air replacement is ARM-based.
You are not very confident then, bet like a man :D

The easiest way would be to keep the MacBook Air almost exactly as it is right now, reduce bezels
Apple does have some mighty big bezels on some of its laptops and ipads. (not that I am sure I would want too small a bezel on my iPads.)

They could do it... at least it worked on MB 12-inch, perhaps also the same as the rumored ipad, but resolution would scarifie like the MB only 480p

MBA 2017: 720p HD.
MB 12 inch: 480p

Ugh, I wish Apple would just get back to original programming, emojis, and iPhones! Until then, I've got some supplemental predictions of what Apple's got in store, starting with notches for all:

The same gorgeous camera bump we've seen in iPhones will make its way onto the larger iOS devices:

The Apple Pencil will take a page out of AirPods' book by gaining easy pairing, and AirPods will return the favor by taking some design cues from the Apple Pencil:

An additional extremely classy color option will available to prospective iPhone XR buyers:

And finally, the Mac Pro will see its first design change 2013, fusing with the Mac mini for a truly professional experience. And, yes, that 6"x6" screen is Retina:

What a great and creative line up.
I like the AirPencilPods the most. Instant buy if you can double them as a chopsticks :)

I'm convinced the MacBook Air will be Apple's first attempt at making a macOS computer with their own A series processors, locked down to the App Store just like Windows RT. If it's priced competitively with the current processor speeds, it could be very popular. It might be taking a long time as it'd require an almost entire new team to develop software for or translation software layer to do so. I like the idea but it is very risky to try the idea and stock holders might be super nervous about it.

Video and articles states that an updated 12 inch MB would run with an Amber Lake, making it more powerful and the new MBA with a Whiskey Lake.

This makes no sense at all. Whiskey Lake is tue more powerful and superior processor compared to AmberLake. If there will be a new Air with incredible runtime, it will use AmberLake. If there will be a bumped 12 inch MB, it will use Whiskey Lake for more power. Your point would make the air more powerful while being cheaper than the 12 inch MB. Get your facts together pls.

I’m really confused about the positioning of this new low cost notebook. I always assumed they would eventually just kill the air and price the MacBook around $1000. If there is in fact a new $1k notebook, and it’s got a retina display, how can you possibly sell the MacBook at $1300 base price?
Because it smaller, thinner, and lighter. The could also rejig the base configurations such that the $1300 12“MB has more RAM and a larger SSD than the $1000 13“ ‘MBA’. Or maybe add TouchID to the 12” MB.

An Amber Lake Y CPU in the new Macbook 12"? That's an 8th gen 2 CORE chip. If they're charging north of $1500 for it, that's just as pathetic as the current configuration.
What other 5 W TDP chip you suggest they should use?

"Retina" is marketing speak for a screen that's essentially a high(er) amount of DPI for the screen size than what standard HD is, that's it.
That is not a complete description, what do think the term ‘Retina’ stands for? Hint, it has something to do with people’s eyes.

With macs, what’s the alternative? MacBook? iMac? Mac Pro? If you don’t want to spend thousands, don’t need a laptop and don’t want an all in one w/ screen that can’t be used with any other system - what option is left? Hackintosh?

The alternative is to cut your losses and leave Apple behind. Depending on your needs, you can switch to Ubuntu Linux, which is an amazing desktop platform. And for those who have special software needs, well, there's always Windows -- and most macOS users have been running Windows all these years anyway as an additional platform, either in a virtual machine or as a secondary OS (also known as "running it in Boot Camp").

What it all comes down to is that a hell of a lot of macOS users never really could rely on macOS as their only platform anyway, or that there never was a real business case to pay the Apple tax for their mostly out-dated and over-priced hardware. Most Apple customers pay the premium either for the design or just to carry the brand name around with them. The time when there were killer applications that only existed for macOS is long gone -- and to add insult to injury, it was Apple themselves who killed most of those applications (Aperture, anyone?).

Really? I don't remember hearing of any major hiccups. I never personally had any hiccups whatsoever.
Yes, there were a few orphaned Applications; but that was HARDLY Apple's fault.
My experience was different, and if you are impacted by the switch then it isn't seamless. As was pointed out earlier, everyone's needs differ and thus their experiences will as well. I would like Apple to add a micr SD or Sd slot since I used it to backup critical files; but that isn't happening.

New 11” iPad Pro. 2nd gen Apple Pencil & 2nd gen AirPods. That’s what i’ll be buying on October 30th if available.

There is a chance I will go with the 12.9” iPad Pro instead of the 11”, but only if they release a new iPad mini as well. In which case I will buy both the 12.9” & iPad mini. It might seem like overkill, but I currently use an iPad mini 2 and love the form factor for travel. The 12.9” would become my main computer for creating art, and the iPad mini my digital sketchbook when I wanna travel light. I only hope that if they do release an iPad mini it has support for the Apple Pencil. If not, then I will split the difference and go with the 11” iPad Pro.

OK so you're saying Apple will purposely cripple their computers to make the iPad look good? Does this sound like a good company?
Not necessarily a value judgment. It just seems a way to make a beefed up iPad look like a viable replacement for a crippled laptop. Good or bad may be determined by whether you continue to buy the products offered. I still have an iMac and an iPad Pro. I no longer buy Apple laptops or phones. If the new iPad Pros drop touch id for face id and/or drop the headphone jack, ditto for iPads. The main reasons I buy laptops over tablets: varied and functional ports, tracking pad/mouse, nice built in keyboard, and highly multifunctional windowing systems. The new Apple laptops fail in the ports and keyboard areas. If the new iPads came with USB-C port(s) for peripheral expansion and could somehow come up with an iOS system with MacOS functionality, they'd be decent replacements for the laptops in their current configurations.

Please don't beg Apple to remove more functionality from their products. I've had 4 different iPads, and though I don't use it often, I still like having the camera when I need it. I use the headphone jack A LOT for music applications on the iPad. Rather than remove the camera, why not make the iPad a little thicker so that its camera can be flush? Unfortunately, if one uses past actions to forecast future ones, Apple will likely remove cameras and phone jacks on iPads in the future, using "thinness" as a justification. I personally am just fine with touch id as well, especially on a large portable device like the iPad. I'd like a choice as to whether to implement fingerprints over infrared radiation in authenticating to my device(s).

Well, it looks like you’re no longer gonna buy iPads then, cause Apple is definitely replacing Touch ID with Face ID and getting rid of the headphone jack in this update.

I really anticipated that from Apple, which is why I bought my current top-spec'd iPad Pro a year ago - a year before I really needed to update my previous one. It's also why I bought a top-spec'd iPhone 6S+ to replace my 6+ when the jackless 7 came out. It still works just fine and will last another couple of years with a battery replacement, and I can still use my high end wired headphones with it (and with my iPad Pro). Apple is going down a path that isn't compatible any longer with my needs, after decades of using their products. Fortunately, in all areas except perhaps tablets, the alternatives to Apple are now not necessarily a step down. My current iPad Pro will likely do just fine until its battery finally dies, which should be quite a while yet for the iPad battery (which is amazingly beefy).

Owning two (a G5 and and Intel) cheese graters, it's certainly NOT what I want. Technology and the world have moved on. Looking forward to a fresh and expandable design with modern super-fast I/O.
You‘re right, there‘s so much more that Apple thinks of. Smaller packages and lighter weight mean that they get more of these products in a plane/ship/truck and therefore reducing pollution et al. Let‘s wait for Tuesday, I took half of my day off for it :)

I would encourage anyone to look at all the results, not just the ones that I have highlighted. I am not sure where anyone would actually claim that a dual-core 5w CPU would compete or be faster than a quad-core 15w CPU is beyond me.

Clearly, there is a disconnect somewhere. Hopefully, a revised 12” MacBook w/Amber Lake will acquit itself well as would a 15w quad-Core in a MacBook (Air) replacement. I am looking forward to seeing what both will offer users moving forward. Hopefully, we will have more concrete information very soon.

Counterpoint: Is there anything preventing you from purchasing an SD-Card reader, and continuing to do that with a future Mac that you might purchase?
