I know. When I say upgradable I only want ram and hard drive upgradablility!

Unfortunately, for laptops at least, Apple's quest for thinner means no slot for upgradability since they would add depth over soldered in components. A mini or pro Mac could offer that since there is less of a form factor issue, we'll see if they actually do that.

Yes, its called "Hope"!

Imagine that statement in a Google, Android or Microsoft forum!

5Kg desktops from the 90's got us here - so, why not a Pro serving 1/1000 or 1/100000 of that sample worker bees?
With Apple, hope in one hand and spit in the other. See which pools up first.
They've been teasing a new Mac Pro for years now. It's time to wake up.

Then why did it take more than a YEAR to release Tiger for Intel?

Who knows? NEXTSTEP might already have been ported, but Apple still had to develop and integrate Carbon and make it work across multiple architectures. I'm not saying that Apple hasn't done a lot of great work when it comes to porting its OSes, but the fact remains, the core of MacOS (NEXTSTEP) was already ported when Apple acquired NeXT.

I'm not sure what you mean "minimize the Unix-ness". macOS is a Certified Unix. That brings along with it a bunch of requirements. Apparently, macOS is Unix-enough for those guys. They may be getting better at "hiding" some of the soft-white-underbelly of Unix from the casual user (frankly, a good choice!); but it's all still there. And yes, they have pulled a few Unix-scripts (most in the name of better security); but those are easily (and free-ly) replaced for those who understand and need them.

I'll say it another way. I don't think Apple wants to support a full blown Unix OS long-term. Each version of MacOS seeks to hide more of the underbelly, as you say. They have pretty much completely gutted Server. I don't think they will ever port MacOS as we know it today to ARM. If and when they release ARM-based "Macs", these machines will run iOS with a traditional Mac UI, not MacOS.

And remember, the same Apple that you are attempting to say "lacks the moxie" to port macOS to ARM is the same one that DEVELOPS AND MAINTAINS THREE SEPARATE Darwin-based ARM OSes RIGHT NOW, and who has already developed a Framework to port iOS Apps to macOS. OBVIOUSLY, they are toying with the pieces-parts right now, working out some of the anticipated challenges.

Stop putting words in my mouth. I never said they lacked the moxie to do it. I said, and maintain, that I don't believe they will ever release the OS we know as MacOS today on ARM. When ARM comes to the Mac, MacOS will be replaced by iOS. Marzipan is the first step. Whatever its initial purpose, the technology will ultimately create a standard means of developing both touch and mouse interfaces. Once that happens, the underlying OS is less important.

And as you said, we'll all see on Tuesday... Frankly, I'm pretty excited.

And where's that ARM MacBook???

That was one LAME event as far as the Mac is concerned. They are doing the bare minimum to keep the platform going. The innovation is on iOS.

BTW, I have been an Apple user since 1976. I even have an original Apple 1. Wanna buy it?

Nope!

It’s possible that they use the same 13” MBP chassis.

I was almost right! It practically is the same chassis except for the taper at the edges that the Airs have always had. I expected 2 USB-C 3.1 gen 2 ports but was pleasantly surprised they added full TB3. I guess since the iMacs have them as well and these controllers aren’t expensive why not.

The new Mac Mini has a perfect assortment of Ethernet, 4 TB3, two USB 3.0/3.1 type A and even an HDMI port which they could’ve easily left out forcing people to buy an adapter.

It looks like the new Mac's are quite nice this year.... But I think macOS needs to be brought back to where it was a few years ago in some ways(you could say, we need to Make macOS Great Again)... They have made it harder to customize and a breaking popular programs in every release, while trying to push a more iOS-like UI, with more iOS integration. Makes me wonder how long we have left before Apple switches the Mac's to iOS but with a Mac-like UI...

I am planning on getting a new iPad Pro and pencil, maybe AirPods. We’ll see what the 30th brings. And I am a teacher and wish we would get some iPad pros for teachers, but my district buys the cheapest model with not enough memory in my opinion.
This might be an ideal time to buy a 2017 iPad Pro, now that the new one is out. You'd have to put up with touch id, a phone jack, and bezels, but life's tough. I'll bet you'll see some really good deals on last year's iPad models right now.

Illegitime Noncorborundum Est.

"Don't let the bastards get you down".

The "bastards" were right :-( no new iMacs. But the new Mac Mini's look interesting. And at least they're upgradable. The new iPads don't excite me enough to upgrade. Plus I usually upgrade my iPads with my ISP, I send them back in good working order, they send me a new model on a new contract. But my little Dog was on my bed and decided to walk over my iPad Pro 12.9 2nd Gen and left significant scratches on the screen. So I doubt they'll accept it back this time :-(

The "bastards" were only half-right. They generally predicted "No new Macs".

I feel like they are holding-back on the iMacs to upgrade them the the newly-released (a little TOO new to get Apple-level Production Quantities reserved) 9th Gen. Intel chips, and will announce them in Spring, along with the Mac Pro.

I also think that Apple is trying to initiate a four-event-per-year cycle; so that they get "Press" and "Mindshare" spread throughout the year. Also helps with their Supply and Logistics, to not have too many new products launching at once.

Also, what are your dog's toenails made of? Adam Antium?!? Glass is HARD, man! MUCH harder than a protein-based TOENAIL... I try and see if those scratches will buff-out...

Try some of these suggestions:

I just purchased a iMac 27" 2017 3.5Ghz i5 4GB GPU etc ... I'll be kicking myself if they release it earlier than you say lol. Still I'm grateful my insurance company are replacing the surge damaged Late 2015 iMac 3.2ghz I had. For what I need that is more than enough... it's just always nice to have the new stuff ;-)
