What to Expect at Apple's September 2019 Event: New iPhones, Apple Watch Models, Services Updates and More

As a travel blogger & photog who is using his iphone for more & more of my travel photography, i am very excited for this update. Looks like the camera is going to be the main focus. I already ditched my laptop for an ipad pro for video editing which is working out great. I am getting closer and closer to ditching my dslr & lenses for my iPhone as well. I do use a gopro & a drone too. So losing the dslr set up would save a lot of weight & room in my travel bag. Looking forward to next weeks event.

I've been using my iPhone pretty much exclusively for the last few years (my dSLR and mirrorless cams pretty much sleep in the closet). But I'm still processing on my desktop because I've been using Lightroom for at least ten years and have a huge number of image files and edits. It's comfortable and I can cull and edit quickly.

I'm curious as to what your editing your images with on your iPad. Mobile LR? If so, how do you like it? Any problems with your pre-iPad desktop edits and catalog coexisting with your iPad edits? Or do you keep them separate?

Thanks for your thoughts...

How else are they going to twist their sales statistics to “best quarterly revenue” time and time again? Tim has it all figured out. The next CEO is going to be inheriting a talent-depleted disaster company.

Yet Apple's GPM (gross profit margin) stays consistently around a reasonable 38%, and has decreased a little over the last few years.

Looking forward to seeing the new budget iPad.
My favorite iPad by far has been the basic 2018 iPad. Best value and size. I love my 12.8 iPad Pro, but I turn to the budget iPad the most. And I’m not scared to death of dropping it like I am with the new 12.9 iPad Pro.

I use Affinity Photo. Working great so far. I also use Lumafusion for video editing. I wish Apple would bring back Aperture & make an ipad pro version of final cut. But until then, these two programs are my main editing apps. Cataloging will get easier once ios for ipad comes out this month. I have been using my ipad pro exclusively for the past year and still learning. But i can’t go back. Thats cool you are relying on your iphone almost exclusively for photography now. I know there are some type of photography(sports & nature come to mind) that still require specialized equipment like dslrs & long lenses. And Apple needs to work on low light photography. Hopefully the addition of the 3rd lens on the iphone 11 & other advances will help with this. I would never tell anyone what camera they should or shouldn’t use. So i kinda laugh when others scoff at iphone photogs as not serious. To me that is beyond pretentious...as well as wrong. Many professional photographers sing the iphone’s praises. As the saying goes, the best camera is the one you have with you...and the iphone is always in your pocket. Which i guess really makes it the best. Lol. Seriously tho, The iphone really is a great camera for street photography. They are so ubiquitous that unlike a big dslr...people don’t pay any attention and you can get some very candid shots. Being able to edit right on your phone immediately is amazing too. Using the iphone as my main camera has liberated me, not limited me. It has brought the focus back to composing a shot and thinking creatively. I find it has made me a better photographer.

I can't wait! I love this time of year and always look forward to watching this keynote.

Me too! I am already in the process of getting my home equity line of credit squared away so that I can get my hands on these beautiful pieces of art as soon as they are released.

And price increases every year a trend that needs to end.
So I’m sure you can tell us the price increase from X to XS or the difference from 6S to 7 to 8 and how the increased base storage wasn’t worth anything.

Don’t forget to pay your equity off with Apple Pay using your Apple Credit Card to save another 2%.

And interestingly, now that they’re breaking it out we see that hardware is only 32% (services are twice that—63%). That means services are effectively subsidizing hardware. All the services haters can at least take some comfort from that lol.

btw anyone who’s waiting for a new CEO has likely got quite the wait. I don’t think Tim Apple will be retiring anytime soon. Others may retire or decide to move on over the next 15-20 years, but I’m pretty sure there’s anything else Mr. Apple would rather be doing.

*Ahem* ;)

*Ahem*....that's the casing having rounded corners, not the display itself, you failed in an attempt to show me I was wrong.

My original post

That 16" MBP looks good, not a fan of the rounded display corners though, don't believe Apple releases this with rounded display corners.

Call me naive, but I somehow got the impression Apple will surprise us with something big this year.

First, there is the very provocative headline “by innovation only”, which is a ballsy move considering Microsoft, Google, Samsung are all about to present their innovations right now. We also just learned, that Apple is going to stream their event for the first time on YouTube. Then there’s a long series of rather underwhelming rumors, none of which quite hits the mark for something truly innovative. And we have solid hints at a “one more thing” revelation.

How is there no rumors yet? I don’t know, but Apple has invested into making their supply chain leak proof, so maybe it finally pays off.... I actually could imagine something truly transformative along the lines of Apple glasses being revealed (might even make sense to introduce them together with a phone that’s supposed to be capable of charging accessoires)

All I'm really interested in is the future of the current XS, XS Max and XR. Will they live on with a price drop or disappear like the X?
Waiting for a phone with FaceID etc to filter down to a reasonable price point - the XR is still too expensive.

I think all three are discontinued. They’re all so good, there’s just no way to keep them from cannibalizing the 2019 products.

If the 2020 5G models come in $100-150 more expensive next year, I can see Apple maybe dropping the iPhone 11 models by $50-100 and keeping them around to sell next to the iPhone 12 models.

But even the XR... it’s such a great phone, if it dropped to $650 this year, it would probably take at least half of new units sold. Does anybody really “need” more iPhone than an XR? Similarly, Apple isn’t going to sell an X at $799 or XS at $899 this year. The X would gobble up the 5.8” OLED sales and people would barely buy XS, let alone 11 Pro.

That’s the reality of a mature market. Car manufacturers don’t keep around even last year’s model, they do everything they can to get them off the lot. They want to make sure that if you’re willing to settle for last year’s model, it’s damn well going to be a used one.

It’s just not possible to have some kind of breakthrough, must-have feature—every year—such that people will want only the latest and greatest.

Last year there were leaks of the actual keynote slides with the iPhones and Watch on them. Please get those leaks out! Now!

The one more thing is gonna be a foldable iPhone. I’d be disappointed if it was the goddamn tile. Who wants that unless you have Alzheimers?!

having an iPhone from the start (I started with the original in 2007) I have upgraded every year however the “s” last year was not worth the upgrade so I skipped it. was really hoping for something very cool this year and now concerned I will be skipping again.

Anything on iPhone storage capacity? I think there was one old rumor at 128 Gb base, but nothing since.

I don’t expect 128GB base for this year seeing as 512GB likely to remain the top tier - Apple’s been doing the low base tier then quadrupled second tier for the last few years now (16>64>128, 64>256>512, etc).

I think 128GB will become the base next year (at a higher starting price) along with a 1TB model (128GB>512GB>1TB).

Can't await the new iPhone video camera! Made some nice experiences with iPhone XS (all recorded with the native "Camera" app):

Check the stereo sound of the brass bands with your best sound equipment! (And a real shot of multiple guns.)

Danube river here in Vienna early in the morning

BA Airplane landing in VIE

First run of a new ship in the city (travels to Bratislava)

All videos in my channel younger than one year are recorded with the latest iPhone in the original leather case (and no additional equipment).

Made with the previous model (even not bad despite the low light conditions)

The video camera is very robust, reliable, and it produces beautiful pictures and great sound.

To me it's less about those products' availability, but more about my funds' availability to purchase those :D

I’m sure Apple will happily provide you with an apple credit card so you can buy it... although I doubt it’s limit is 12 grand but you never know?
