I fully expect to see new iPads launched on Tuesday, the standard model and the new Mini.

I still think it’ll be the 12 s etc . 13 is bad luck / taboo

Maybe they’ll skip and go 14 ? Like in the xr etc ?

And what would you all go to? I also use Android phones but they are problematic, too, in various ways. https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/20...data-haul-from-google-with-geofence-warrants/

I know, Android is also not the best privacy protector, however, yes I would go to Android for four reasons:
1. The devices cost a lot less. There is no more reason to pay Apple’s premium price if I can get the same low amount of privacy for half the price of an iPhone.
2. There are very privacy oriented projects based on Android, e.g. GrapheneOS. Also there are Firewalls on Android which allow me to block many connections (like Netguard).
3. Even if you use a standard Android, you can switch off a lot of functions. Like in your link, they only have the location data to hand over if you have Location History enabled, which I of course would not.
4. Most importantly: they do not scan ON my device.

I think this is really the key, especially #3. Apple wants to be the super nanny in control rather than let users control their own device by turning on and off functions users do not want.

The problem Apple has is that if they allow us to turn stuff on and off, a lot of things that hit the keynote will get turned off and never used. That will hit marketing's ego so bad, they cannot allow that to happen.

Apple's big problem today is arrogance. They just can't stand users having control of the device. Apple just thinks users are too stupid to take that risk. IMO my being able to control my device trumps privacy every time. With a high level of control I can make my device secure.

I am not expecting much... with typical engineering lead times, we are now seeing the fruits of Apple (and their supply chain) work in 2020 i.e. during the main shock of the pandemic. Lots of disruption and new ways of working not resolved.

So it will be Meh... but will get better next year.

Yikes!
at least we don't have to worry about losing the ability to install apps on a Mac from other places besides the APPLE APP store.

I don't see many advantages of an always-on display. My phone is usually in my pocket. If I pull it out to look at the time, the phone automatically shows me the Lock Screen anyway. If my phone is sitting on a table, it lights up when notifications come in. And if I want to see the time when the display is off, I can just tap the screen. The only advantage I can see would be for people who use their iPhone as an alarm clock on a nightstand.
My last 6 androids all had always on displays.... not really useful and despite it being a low power feature, it still uses enough power that you end up turning it off in settings anyway.

I am expecting an apology for this new scanning “feature” and the announcement that they completely bury the plans and maybe start scanning more on iCloud. Otherwise my family, me and some of my friends won’t buy anything Apple again.
then don't pay any attention to the announcement and start looking at Android phones, tablets and Windows computers or Chromebook - you have LOTS of choices!

Since the so-called BS leakers are really just guessing, I’ll make my predictions based solely on Apple's past history and common sense:

  • Incremental changes to new iPhone models, mostly just slight camera improvements, maybe a new color, and that is about all. Not much here, never is... And any camera improvements are NEVER going to turn a cracker-jack box toy camera into a real camera. A whole lot of razzle and dazzle via video presentations that attempt to take your mind off of the lackluster changes.
  • Incremental changes to new Watch models, a few more medical monitoring capabilities that are neither tried nor proven enough to be reliable and useful to your doctor. Some new bands. A whole lot of razzle and dazzle via video presentations that attempt to take your mind off of the lackluster changes.
  • And that "California Streaming" thing, just some announcements about a few more crappy shows for TV+ that only Gen Z would even care about. Probably a few more games for the ATV. and you guessed it, a whole lot of razzle and dazzle via video presentations that attempt to take your mind off of the lackluster improvements.
  • And one more thing, a whole lot of disappointment from us over the lackluster improvements and changes...
Think of the $$ you'll save.... ;)

i don’t mind upgrading from the 11 PM.. let’s see.. 6 gig of ram to rid the annoying app reloads. the qualcomm over the intel should give quite a nice bump to connectivity. night mode on wide lense and selfie camera.. yes plz.. 5G will be turned off .. 120Hz will be turned off.. what else is there ?
"5G will be turned off" The only reason you should do that is because of your craptacular cellular service. Time to switch.

Makes total sense… and if I had an “older” model, I might do the same, but my 2yr old 11ProMax does just fine and I do not care about 5G as I’m my area, with 4 bars of LTE I get <1mbps download so why bother? And the phone is capable of around 100mbps in the right area as I have observed first hand…
Your 11ProMax has the "Intel inside" modem. Safe best the new 13 would improve reception, as the "Donald" likes to say:"Like you wouldn't believe". And my current iPhone 12 Pro gets far better reception than my 10Max ever got.

The iPhone 13 is looking more and more like what the 12 should have been in the first place. I only upgraded to the 12 last year because I was using a 6s with an unusable battery. Doesn’t look like I’m missing anything significant except a 120hz screen and some incremental camera changes.

I said this last year, and this year confirms it - there is no need anymore for yearly product updates. The number of improvements and new features continues to dwindle year after year because the devices are already so advanced and there’s only so much innovation you can cram in such a short development cycle.

Still waiting on that mythical redesigned iPad mini 6 that has supposedly been coming "any day now" for TWO YEARS  Im pretty sure its vaporware. Apple hates the iPad mini, thats why it took 4 years for an update. I dont expect to see a new one anytime soon.
