Here is an animated version of the touch menu for Macbook Pro showing how it could work:
Please note that this movie was created in >> SEPTEMBER 2014 << and sent by me as a private link to someone important in Apple. It was viewed a few times and then I was informed that they are not interested in such concepts...

I think its safe to say that if the new Macbook Pro redesign is not released, this whole thing will be a complete bust.
How so? This can't be like the Mac Pro introduction where Apple announces it months in advance (they currently sell the MacBook Pro), so unless it is ready to go it won't be announced on Monday. But the iOS 10 and macOS announcements could give us some tantalizing clues as to what to expect from the iPhone 7 and next MacBook Pro.

Agree. I was hoping to buy my daughter a laptop before she heads off for college this fall. You'd think Apple would update the line before 'back to school', but I'm not holding my breath. Not crazy about compromising with the current MacBook lines (Air-bad screen, MB - bad keyboard/overpriced, MPB - older specs), but may end up going that route. I have zero faith in Apple to 'wow' us these days.

Would love to see iMessage go to Android though. Always thought it was designed to be a 'universal' application.
What is she majoring in? The MacBook could be just fine. The keyboard is actually pretty good once you get used to it. Remember chicklet keyboards once felt "mushy" compared to the typewriter key-style desktop keyboards we used to use. It's the same way with the butterfly keyboard.

I know what you mean, even long-time Apple users are losing faith.

Only problem with announcing something before it's available is nobody will buy the current stuff.

If a new slew of MacBook Pros are due in Dec 2016, I would think the earliest they would announce this would be a month or so out.
And if they had rushed out MacBook Pros last November or even February with Intel's buggy Skylake drivers, the same people would be complaining that Apple has "lost its way" and puts out junk that crashes all the time.

My guess is that there is a good reason that they haven't come out with updated MacBook Pros yet. It doesn't make sense to put out a Skylake refresh of the current design now if they have a more significant redesign coming in Q4 (imagine the uproar if they did that).

Health, environment, marketing BS.

Maybe, maybe TC will get his pipeline out on stage. But I doubt there will be a mention of products.

After 11 years I hope I'm wrong.

Wow if they don't announce new hardware they will be basically still stuck in the past with obsolete technology. Well, maybe it goes along well with 5400rpm hard drives for the iMacs and 16gb phones.... (and the lowest stock value in a while)

You're not the only one doing this, but why do people ask for consumer cards with (more than likely) awful FP64 performance in Mac Pros? Even if the unlikely even of Apple switching back to Nvidia happens, it'll be with Quadros, not GTX cards.
I've had high end Quadros and I've felt the performance (on 3ds Max) was on par with consumer cards at four times the price.

With Apple it's been an all or nothing situation: either the MP (Xeon, ECC, DX00) or a computer crippled by compromises, despite the fact that most professionals would be perfectly happy with a consumer version of the Mac Pro (i7, non-ECC, consumer GPU).

Computers have reached a point where even mid to high-end consumer cards are incredibly powerful, and would be enough for most uses, yet Apple doesn't even give us a choice, except in a compromised AIO iMac or an overpriced, rapidly-aging non-upgradable Mac Pro.

However...

I would give all the allegedly underage workers in China and the potentially untapped cheap labour in India for the death of XCode and a universal ability to deploy to iOS.

It is the last chance for Tim Cook to deliver a keynote. If he fails again and makes it dull and boring with yet another bunch of watch bands then Apple is hopeless. He basically doesn't even have to surpise us, no one already expect this from him, what he needs is just to repeat and show us things described in this article. But I think even then there's a big chance he won't he able to do it.

More Green Energy emphasis:

Catawba County approves lease for Apple’s renewable energy center

I wonder if this is a new strategy direction for Apple under Timmy's leadership that will be announced at WWDC? Replacing fossil fuels with a really inexhaustible supply of fuel.

The patent that I just researched shows a drawing of Timmy in a chair with a tube taped to his mouth and another inserted elsewhere. The patent caption reads:

Enough hot air and gas to power California for fifty years!

Oh for days of yonder, when we had Steve Jobs to wow us with the latest stuff. His keynotes were legendary, and I looked forward to every one with baited breath. Those days are gone forever, alas.

It seems as though Cook almost wants to disappoint us, wants the keynote to be dull, wants to concentrate on watch bands, Eddy Cue wobbling to music, vacuous celebrities and pushing ads and subscriptions, all things that fly in the face of Steve's Apple.

Perhaps, one day, Apple will be released from the clutches of decay. May we all yearn for a return to Apple's original Raison d'être: providing us with the finest computers. Goodbye distractions, hello focus. I fear my optimism is hopeless and deluded.:(

Steve Jobs was probably the best pitchman in the tech industry. I can think of few (if any) CEOs with his passion and charisma. It's a tough act to follow.

a solid thumbs up on the video

Article Link: What to Expect at WWDC 2016[/QUOTE]

Our WWDC 2016 "Wish List" includes just one item ... Trial Subs for IAPs ... specifically:

a one-time, 60-day Trial Subscription option, of a single In-App Purchase (per app)

For example, if a Free app had a single IAP priced at $2.99, the one-time, 60-day Trial Sub option would very-likely be priced at $0.99 (or possibly even lower).

If offered / supported by Apple, Trial Subs for IAPs would trigger a shift in strategy by all participating developers ... specifically, "teaching" would become a priority, as developers would need to ensure that their Users got up to speed as quickly as possible, before their trial period ends.

And because Users would very-likely be evaluating multiple apps under the same scenario during the same time-periods, documentation, video tutorials, etc. could become just as important as keywords.

The net result to developers is that it would enable price increases; the $2.99 pricing would very-likely, over time, double to $5.99.

Deep / comprehensive apps would ultimately become the most popular.
