I'm looking forward to hearing about all of the things that Apple wants me to look forward to... as much as I'd like to see something actionable with regards to the 27" iMac replacement, an iPad Air / Pro Mini or even a proper refresh of the AppleTV hardware... yeah, my expectations are low. Hopefully a MacBook Pro redesign that takes full advantage of the AS Mx processors won't be too big of an ask for WWDC this year.

Third-party "App Discovery" App Stores is the ONLY thing I want to hear Cook & Schiller talk about !

Also, I think there is a fair chance this year's WWDC could flop.

Nothing I've heard so far will move the (enthusiasm) needle !

I don’t know why they think it’s the super bowl - it’s primarily a developer focused event. I think the spring and fall keynotes are big. WWDC does give us a few ideas on direction things could head though
While WWDC is definitely a developer focused event, the keynote address is a consumer event focused on software improvements. Apple always promotes the flashy, user facing features in the keynote. Developers and admins know that the real meat of the conference are the Platform State of the Union and the various sessions. That is where the real details come out.

I’ve seen adverts on YouTube for Apple’s keynote stream. This is definitely supposed to be a mainstream event.

Anyone think they might add push notifications to Safari?

...

No? No one? Ok, yeah, it was a dumb question to think they'd ever do that. 🤐

I assume you mean web notifications on iOS?

Given how badly web notifications are spammed on desktop sites, and how much effort they've put into reducing frivolous battery drain to power up the radio for regular app notifications, I don't see this happening.

I understand the desire - but I can also see it being abused beyond belief.

iOS but also macOS. The only reason I want it is for forum notifications but I see what you mean.

Apple's biggest flaw is they control their ecosystem, so it means they will never see dominance. So it doesn't matter what Apple do, there will always be competition to beat them down. So while the M chips are interesting, I'm looking at the competition, and I think Microsoft are about to announce something big when it comes to ARM support for Windows. Intel are too big to fail, they might have a few years out, but they'll be back. Now it is the race to whoever makes a PC ARM chip to take on Apple, I'm gonna bet Nvidia as their X1 was really good 5 years ago.

Things I'm genuinely curious about or looking forward to:
1) New MBP announcement
2) Under-screen Touch ID (in addition to Face ID) for iPhone 13
3) In light of Google killing S4TF, the path forward for native ML on macOS
4) Updates to Swift (I've heard some exciting news, but look forward to a walkthrough)
5) Any improvements in AVFoundation

Nail clippers. :D

That’s what Apple need to launch.

Sick of seeing Xiaomi bringing out loads of really rather good products and not even having the choice of an Apple version.

[Xiaomi nail clippers really are good – nice and sharp. Come as a set in a neat little box.]
The perfect gift for anyone suffering with nullumaluphobia and long nails! :)

I am surprised Apple doesn't currently allow folders. Seems rather odd to me.
I’m not, really. They’re pushing the idea that privacy at the device level is their main concern, so that’s their focus. Once the system is unlocked, security goes out the window, but that’s the trade off to be able to actually use the device.

From reading around here, it’s clear that folks want the ability to unlock their phones and hand them off to strangers with some of their content marginally protected, but that’s a false sense of security. If you unlock your phone and give it to anyone, you’ve already removed their main impediment.

as it provides evidence that Prosser is a very reliable and accurate leaker
Prosser is SLIGHTLY more reliable and accurate than MacRumors. So, if I were to start making YouTube videos JUST based on what I read on MacRumors, I’d be top tier overnight!

That is true. I would never hand my phone to a stranger. I barely allow it with family. :D

the keynote address is a consumer event focused on software improvements.
It’s things that consumers may be interested in, especially if they happen to be enthusiasts, but its being provided to give developers ALL around the world an idea of where the Apple is headed as related to development. A consumer watching the show won’t commonly find anything to consume immediately after the event. Whereas, with their OTHER planned events, there’s usually something provided for consumers to consume. Those are the ones that are consumer focused.

All I'd like is for my partner to be able to pick up my phone and use it while I am driving!

Yes - I have got in-car speaker phone, etc. But things like "Could you just see if xxx has emailed me?", or "Would you call yyy?", or "OK so can we change the satnav route...?"

So the ability to add her fingerprint or face to make it easier than me calling out my PIN. Especially with passengers.

That is a good scenario that I am sure many wish to make use of every day. The easy thing is tell her the PIN when it is created. That way, she knows it. Easy work-around.

I'd be perfectly happy to do so but remembering it is another thing. I use it frequently but it could be weeks or months for her.

I suspect there would be a new service announced! Now that Apple sells video fitness lessons, I guess it could be anything. Cooking classes maybe? I just imagine Cook saying "Good food has always been in Apple's DNA"...

I met someone once who believes apples are fruit, food for thought that

You won’t see this at WWDC. Since this would be a feature on the iPhone 13, it won’t be announced until the hardware supports it. Apple will quietly develop it in private builds.
