What’s already available is powerful enough. Give the company a break. Tim I am giving you full authorization not release any brand new Macs until 2025. The majority of what people are using their Macs for already is watching YouTube unboxing, FaceBook, Tik Tok videos and positing Macrumors about what’s next and status symbol objects at Starbucks on the Ave.
Good point. For creators and those who are pushing the software to its limits, new upgraded hardware is generally always welcome… but for the majority of people who just use their devices for consuming content and posting on social media, there’s little need to get upgraded hardware for some time.

It’s always a game of tick-tock, isn’t it. The software gets upgraded and places more demands on hardware, and then the hardware gets upgraded, so developers try to take advantage of that and build software that pushes the hardware more to its limits. So it goes, back and forth forever. At some point in time, users who are more budget- and environmentally-conscious have to stop and wait at least a few years, so that they can take advantage of what they’ve got without going to the trouble of starting all over again.

I tend to think that Apple needs to work harder on their software to optimize it and make it perform better with the terrific hardware that’s already out there… but with their current business model, hardware and cloud services is where they make most of their cash, not software, unlike Windows for example.

As much as we want to believe that the new MacBook (Air?) is going to come in a range of colors (and it might), the fact is that adding more colors increases the complexity of production. They also have to accurately forecast which models (colors) are going to be more popular and manufacture more of those. If their predictions are wrong, the end with with a warehouse of leftover burgundies or purples or yellows or whichever color didn’t sell… and Apple isn’t keen on dropping prices just for certain model color variations.

Still, giving customers more color choices than the standard silver, space gray and gold would be a novel idea.

I want IOS and MacOS removal of wifi scanning, bluetooth mesh network spying, ultra wide band spying, no tracking by Apple, removal of most of the header information in emails that are privacy risks. I want Safari turned into a privacy browser.
+1, a simple way to remove all options on websites asking for permissions such as legitimate interest would be awesome!👍

It really doesn’t seem that we’re going to see the new MacBook Air at this event. We haven’t been hearing the usual rumors about start of production and so on. Since we haven’t heard any supply chain rumors or news, it seems reasonable to assume that we won’t be getting a shippable Air (or just the MacBook?) soon.

There’s also a question as to whether Apple would actually announce a product that may not have entered actual production. At the very best, they may announce and show off the product virtually, and then start taking preorders. (Since the new MacBook Air or just the MacBook is allegedly coming in a variety of colors, it makes sense that Apple would want to gauge how many should be manufactured of each color, based on preorder volume.)

Further, the fact that a brand new OS is likely coming in three months means that any new Mac hardware shipped right now would not have that new OS installed. Shipping without the successor OS installed is something that Apple doesn’t typically do, as I recall.

Judging from all this, I’d say that sadly, we won’t be seeing any Mac products this time… at least, not a shippable product 🤨
Well actually back in February, Apple did register three new Macs, all labeled as running Monterey, in the Eurasian database.
One of those computers was described as a laptop.
The other two were obviously the M1max and M1Ultra studios.
So we are still waiting on that laptop.
Also keep in mind that Mac production is not reported on like iPhone production. Because there’s a lot less of it, it’s a lot harder to gauge. The Studio was only first rumored about a couple weeks before it was announced and started shipping.
Also on top of all this, Mark Gurman just tweeted that he doesn’t actually expect it to ship in that many colors, mainly just space gray, silver, gold and blue.
So it is quite possible that it has been in production and we just don’t know about it.
As for Macs shipping before the new operating system, it happens all the time.
The 12 inch MacBook, the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro, and the iMac were all updated in June 2017, four months before HS released.
The MacBook Pro was updated in July 2018, two months before Mojave was released.
The MacBook Air was updated in July 2019, three months before Catalina was released.
The M1 iMac came out in May 2021, five months before Monterey was released.

Apple is saving any new Macs for the fall and trying to resolve what’s already been ordered. There are customers who have yet to even receive their MacBook Pro M1 Pro/Max
and the new Mac Studio. A new Mac right now would add too
much constraint on the supply chain and force Apple to miss targets.

Seriously, page documents in Word and Pages doesn’t require 64 GBs of RAM and M1 Utra.
My 16" MBP M1 Pro should be arriving on my doorstep early next week, and I can't wait to go show it off in Starbucks and watch YT unboxing vids, and then post all about it right here, yeew!

Really good points, and helpful information. I didn’t realize or remember that they had actually been doing releases of new machines with the “old” OS installed in recent years.

Still, given the current production shortages and the supply issues they’re having with the higher-end models, I would say it’s a long shot to see a real product at this event in particular. Maybe an announcement with preorders, but a real product seems unlikely. Could be wrong, of course 😏

I am maximizing what I have. Sure, I would love to upgrade to the latest iPhone, but my iPhone X does everything I realistically need out of a smartphone. It takes great pictures, records lovely videos and Apple still supports it. I might be enticed to upgrade next year, but Apple continues to support it, I might just delay my upgrade again.

It’s the same for my Macs. I bought an M1 MBP in 2020, but my 2015, while a bit groggy was working just fine. What needs to happen is developers and end users just need to re-evaluate, optimize and work with what we now have. Because there is so much computing power there are already.

Yes, there is a need for new revs, but I think Apple needs to be pressured into some artificial deadline to appease Wall street and YouTubers (iJustine - OMG, it’s so new and pretty).

I'm very keen to see what iPad OS 16 will be like I have to say. Listening to the rumours.

I wonder if developers ever say, “Jeez, I wish that Apple would make faster and more powerful machines! I just can’t get my software to do what it should with these lame specs”?

My guess is that it’s more a case of software and OS framework-related restrictions that hinder the development of apps than the hardware these days. Or perhaps it’s just a lack of imagination and ideas… ?

Expecting to see MacBook Air on Monday. Also waiting to see improvements for iPadOS.

It is amazing how little tvOS has changed since its launch in 2015 when compared to the MacOS and iOS.

Still gets a new number though.

I don’t see why I can’t turn on my Apple TV and have a bunch of widgets on the screen showing weather, news, calendar, messages etc. like in so many sci-fi movies, the technology is there. Could even watch stuff in a PIP window, etc. Right now it’s just an un-exciting dashboard.
My biggest issue with tvOS is the number of steps needed to get to the content. The up-next feature was a big improvement, but it's limited to one row? Why aren't movies in a series grouped when added to up-next the way TV shows are? Want to find a movie you save for later three months ago... get ready to scroll right for 20 minutes or go search for it.

They should convert appleTV apps into settings extensions. The only thing the services need to know is if I have a subscription. Toss up a netflix watermark when I start their content and then get out the way. This would let them standardize the UI. How can apps still not be updated for the new remote?

When I press power it should be a full-screen grid with what I have listed up next, with franchises stacked into folders. Put icons for search, currently watching, recently watched, and recommendations based on recent interests and what's popular. It shouldn't matter what service it's on. Let me rank the services in the settings menu and when I press play find the highest-ranked service with the content I asked for. Music, podcasts, audiobooks, and apps should be accessible from a gesture and either run full screen or PIP.

Or something better than my off-the-cuff idea. It's just gotta be faster than what we have now.

Still better than Roku though.

I hope macOS 13 is just a refinement release with continued bug fixing.
