Personally, I would rather not be manipulated by a giant corporation.

I enjoyed the rest of your post, and agree with this statement, but it seems borderline impossible. Giant corporations are part of the social fabric. Hard to tell where our genuine desires end and their interests begin.

it couldn't be more confusing.

who ever thought out this "Rube Goldberg' like process should be fired

it could/should be explained with a simple flow chart!

I think it is intended to make it so there are lines and supply constraints even if it isn't popular. And if it turns out to be more popular than Apple expects then I'm sure we will see them come up with an easier way to get it out to people quickly.

Sorry, I could never get it, how people can turn brands into religion and banal stores into a temple.

Even more: personally I find it embarrassing all that yelling and high-fiving at those launches. And if you people believe, that such pathetic shows do have something in common with any kind of personal sympathy towards you, - you're dead wrong.

P.S. I don't hate neither Apple, nor its products. Actually, I've been using Apple products for 10 years now, but I never understood that...

In other words, you are one of those people who stands on the sidelines shaking your head as you watch other people have a great time enjoying something, wishing you could join in and have fun too but too inhibited by your sense of how you "should" behave. I get it. I always felt the same way when I would be on a cruise watching people have a great time doing line dancing. I was too inhibited to join in so I substituted making fun of the people enjoying themselves to make myself feel better. I was too "above" that kind of silliness. Kind of childish and self-defeating in hindsight. Now that I'm older, I don't care what other people think and I join in and have fun along with the people I used to make fun of. Life is much better now. Hope you get there someday before you miss out on too much joy. Being "superior" is lonely.

P.S. Do you feel the same disdain for people who exhibit their loyalty for a certain sports team? It's kind of the same thing except the Apple products I own literally make my life better (provide my source of income, make things more convenient and easier). No sports team ever did that for me.

It's like buying windows. You know what you want yet the sales monkey insists to tell you the difference between double and triple glazing, whether you want or or not...

Huh, more information is a bad thing? I'd rather have that than some lazy salesperson just taking my money. Sometimes that unexpected information is important for choosing the best item to buy.

yeah, ok...

I think the moto watch is leaps and bounds ahead of the apple watch as far as styling goes. The lg urbane is gorgeous. I've watched numerous apple watch demos and they aren't any more impressive than the androids. But hey, is your money, and a world without options is a world I want no part of.

You might want to check out this visual comparison. Its "your money", so feel free to strap on one of those "gorgeous" behemoths. http://9to5mac.com/2015/03/12/look-how-much-sleeker-apple-watch-is-compared-to-android-wear-watches/

I have an iPhone, so why the hell would I want an Android watch?
(hint. I would not) You know what is impressive? A smart watch that offers a seamless experience with my phone. Wondering if I should go write some posts on the Android smart watch forum, telling them why I am not buying one of their watches. I am sure that audience would care to hear my opinions...

Oh well, it is not about being "superior" in any way and I also am not "above" in any sense.
If some people (and it seems to be a lot of them out there) having fun standing in those lines for days for a little Yeah, iPhone and a t-shirt, so be it...
It is just not my kind of fun and I just dislike to celebrate consumption for its own sake.

About your sports team comparison, - it is different: there is real passion involved on both sides, team and fans alike. In our case there is an artificially fired up "passion flame" on one side, and some susceptible minds on the other side, who are getting ignited by it.
Did you actually asked yourself, why that "real" fun follows the same procedural pattern all over the world?

Just a friendly advise: before spreading out an infinite wisdom, one should get rid of prejudice...

;)

Are you trying to say that sports teams aren't as interested in the almighty dollar as Apple? Or that Apple isn't passionate about their products and great customer service? Really? And are you saying that Apple "fans" just have "susceptible minds" and therefore our brand loyalty isn't by our own decision and based on experience? That's quite a load of insulting crap. I feel the same way about sports fanaticism as you do about Apple fans, but the fact is that sports teams basically only provide a fan with a few hours of entertainment. Sports fans are basically equal to people who worship entertainers. Apple provides me with tools I actually use so there's a more concrete reason for me to support them so they will make me more tools I can use.

You mean like people who paint themselves team colors or wear team jerseys or all do the wave, etc. Not to mention all the useless chotchskis you can buy with the team name on them. Pretty ritualistic there. FYI- human beings love putting themselves into "teams". And human beings also love rituals. That's one of the main reasons why religions exist. And sports fans. And brand loyalty. And neighborhoods with pockets of the same kind of people. And wars, frankly. I've never seen a literal fistfight over an Apple vs Android discussion. Can't say the same for sports fans.

Tools, Apples, teams, sports...
Discussion is leading nowhere. Forget it and let it be.

I originally thought the Motorola watch would look good from what I saw online, but a couple of my friends have it, and it's not that nice. I don't think I'd want to wear one.

Well said. I love Apple and I have been their loyal customer for over 25 years but there is no way in hell I would stand in line and go through that crazy crowd and spend hours to get a product.
Rather order online or come at later time to the store to get what I want. At the end I don't need anybody giving me a high five. Not worth it.
I am with you, never understood it.

You mean the iPad that is now declining in sales along with the rest of the tablet market as people finally realise they're pointless and do nothing their phone or computer can't do?

But.....

Five years ago, the iPhone screen was tiny, 3.5". Far too small to really do anything on. iPad was great and arguably needed then; my only regret was not getting wireless on my iPad 2. I was stuck only using it where I could jump on wireless.

Now that phone screens have grown (to the current 5.5" of my 6+, which I LOVE) the iPad is rendered virtually useless. Sure there's 3" difference but my iPad merely sits and occasionally gets picked up.

Growing screen sizes on phones have played a huge part in the declining tablet market. If we all still had 3.5" phone screens, we'd all carry around an iPad.

It's just a smart watch . These stories are really blowing the experience of buying a device out of proportion

Sounds like you are just trying to ruin the experience for those of us who enjoy it and want the watch, for whatever reason.

Are you trying to change our minds based upon your disdain for Apple and it's products and the excitement it causes for many of us?

Has there ever been anything you have really wanted and anticipated and enjoyed the experience of getting? How would you feel if we said you were silly for wanting it and anticipating it just because we weren't interested in it?

Holy schnikes!!!! Someone "gets" it!! Too many worrying about what others may think about them buying the watch..... Or anything actually. Luckily I got over it earlier in life and have no problem being the one "being made fun of"!

Yeah the iPhone and ipad, I really wanted them, and .... Bought them. So you don't believe all these lead up stories , sightings in every magazine are over the top? Do you require group approval before you purchase it? If you really want to , buy it. I will.

Never did I say people were silly to buy it. I'm referring to the stories leading upto launch, it's like a concerted effort to generate clicks.

" I'm still not sold on watches as they really do nothing that I can't do with my phone."

I remember this quote about 5 years ago, except it was:

" I'm still not sold on iPad as they really do nothing that I can't do with my phone."

I know right? It's like people are not open to improvements. It's like saying that e-mail are useless since sending physical mail does the same job, but here we can see the huge difference in time saving. This is what people don't seem to realize with technology these days, it is so advanced that saving a couple seconds is considered a huge improvements (at least for me).

lol. That's what I was thinking. Oh that Apple hype just won't stop. I'm still not sold on watches as they really do nothing that I can't do with my phone. Except the fitness aspect, but that can be done at a quarter of the price.

I'm not sure there is anything Apple can do about it... The company is different than any other company out there. The demand for their products is beyond anything I have ever seen. From the articles to the reviews, to the commercials by Samsung hating everything about them, to the masses waiting overnight to get in a store, to the beauty of the stores.

Apple is trying to get some control over the huge demand for their products that no other company can even imagine for so many product releases.

Hype - yes, but hype is always followed by huge demand so you cannot blame them one bit. Might even be a good idea to start this new control before the iPhone 7 comes out and sells 50mm in the first month.

"Around the world, we strive to treat every customer the same — regardless of where they come from, how they worship or who they love." -Tim Cook

Not everyone that walks into a Ferrari dealer will be allowed to test drive one either.

Gonna try to get an try-on appointment for the 11th at my Store. Just to either reaffirm or contradict my mind set of not getting one. Also my girlfriend has a Genius appointment and I want to pick up a Lightning to SD card reader adapter, so a try-on appointment is just convenient.

And Ferrari doesn't pretend to treat everyone the same the way hypocritical Cook is.

Except when profits are to be had. Cook is so focused on profits first, he's unable to see his own hypocrisy. He doesn't care about equality, happy customers, or offering the best possible products, he only cares about numbers and profits.

I wonder how certain customers are treated in his new Saudi Arabia store?

Well between the watches under display glass and the appointments Apple is going all out with psychological marketing strategies to prime the demand pipeline. I'll have to say my defenses are weakening.

Can't wait for people to get moved to the front of the line because they are buying the $10,000 option. That's going to go over really well with the masses.

In other words, he's focused on exactly what he, and every other CEO, should be.

Apple doesn't love you. It loves your money. That's how it works.
