Am I the only one who prefers a bigger phone screen? I like it for when I watch movies and playing PUBG. But at the same time, not so big as an iPad size.

Is this correct? I don’t think so. I would say: watching a movie at 25fps doesn’t require a 120hz framerate. Scrolling through a website at 120hz does make sense, as it would make the scrolling much smoother. So, isn’t it precisely the opposite?

Exactly, which would also solve the issue of text ghosting.

yep, just look at the history of this guy.... all nothing but just bashes and hate at Apple

If you hate apple so much, just go back to your android world and dont come here ever again

If someone consistently disagrees with the leadership of a company he/she clearly cares for and ecosystem they are a user of (while paying handsomely for the privilege), it's none of your business really to tell them what to do.

It’s funny how people want all the latest and greatest features on Apples lower end iPhones.
It you wanna play you gotta pay.

I think the standard size X/S/11 Pro is a fine balance between size and fidelity – roughly larger than the 6/7/8, plenty of screen estate, and still a phone you can can fit into your pocket. With the Max and above, things get oversized.

because the 5.8" is just too small for media consumption. Your eyes literally need to squint to read the text, and movies and games are just downright pathetic at a screen this small. The current 6.5" (and upcoming future 6.7") are the minimum comfortable screen size for content consumption.

120hz doesn't really make sense for 'media consumption'. Its still common for people to actively disable 120hz+ when it comes to watching movies and TV shows.

As for reading text - I think this is what a lot of people miss when thinking about smaller phones. Assuming you want it to be this way, it's totally possible to have text be the exact same size - just less of it on screen at a time. If I look at my original SE and X side by side, the actual size of text in various places is physically identical - there's just less of it so I need to scroll more on the smaller screen.

I think what you're missing is that nobody wants this to be a lower end phone. They just want a small phone. If my current phone was priced identically to the Max, I would still by my current phone because i prefer a smaller size.

People disable 120Hz in a bid to save battery life, not because they dont want it (they just cant afford to keep it running at the expense of battery). I'm sure Apple will not compromise battery life with 120Hz, as iPad Pros retain the same battery life even with promotion.

As for text size, yes I agree it is possible to have the same exact same size, but the extra scrolling just gets downright tedious when you have to constantly scroll. It is even worse when I set text size to largest (in Settings), and some websites are not optimised, so you would have to pan the screen left and right to continue reading the same line. It's even worse that constantly scrolling downwards. (If you get what I mean)

This one will be the one to stick for me.

If the rumours are true: the flat sides design (5/5s style), 120 hz and smaller notch are absolute winners for me with the 120hz at the top. Will probably return to the Max size to enjoy that 120hz refresh in media consumption.

I was referring to TV's. It's super common for people to disable high refresh rate because watching films above 24fps makes it lose what we consider the film effect. People are primarily disabling them to avoid what's been dubbed the 'soap opera effect' in movies and not for power saving reasons. https://www.cnet.com/how-to/soap-opera-effect-tom-cruise-wants-you-to-turn-it-off-heres-how/

As for scrolling, to me it's not a big deal. I do it at an almost unconscious level. I feel like I notice it as little as I notice blinking. It might add to it that I'm one of those people who hates reading the screen top to bottom, I have a very small sweet spot in the middle of the screen and I constantly scroll content into that region. In other words, I'm already scrolling a lot to begin with, so I don't notice the extra scrolling on smaller screens that much.

There is no need to exclude 120Hz from any iPhone 12 model. Anecdotally, All the latest iPhone move from 30Hz to 60Hz display in the same year.

I don’t care about the notch size. I just care about getting videos that can play full screen without cropping, or a phone screen that can play videos full screen without cropping...you know, take advantage of the screen size?

Seems that I’m the only one that cares about that.

Apple have to give people reason to jump to the pro models and pro motion would be one of those features.

Apple make a pro model for extra lenses and there is no point to go divide more unnecessary feature that can be fit on the 5.4” model.

Jon said it’s not confirmed

It’s more it is not quite confirmed as they could decide to not ship with it and hide it in the hardware. They will as long as the battery can hold it to work and not drain the battery

However they expect it to ship with pro motion

I'm almost certainly going to get the 6.1" 12 Pro this fall. Have pushed my iPhone X 3 years now (usually a 2yr upgrade cycle) as it was still great for me, but been looking forward to the new form factor like the iPhone 5 (always loved that design).

Up until now, I've preferred the smaller form factor of the 5.8" vs the 6.5" Max, but actually felt the 6.1" size of the iPhone XR / 11 was the perfect "goldilocks" size for me, so am excited that the smaller 12 Pro will now be 6.1". The addition of 120hz ProMotion will be fantastic - have loved it in since they introduced it on the 10.5" iPP, and agree with a poster above that for me it's really best for text scrolling as it becomes super smooth.

So the higher refresh rates will not be utilized for reading? I don’t game and don’t watch movies on iPhone, will I still benefit from ProMotion?

Perhaps you are the only one that doesn’t realize the iPhone screen does show video without cropping because it isn’t possible to fit 16:9 video in a 19.5:9 display full screen without cropping. So you get full 16:9 uncropped video with the notch not affecting video at all on the iPhone.

These display size rumors make me nervous. I really hope that they don’t start butchering the smaller phones and divvying up the features. The 5.4” would be a no go instantly if it wasn’t a “Pro” device. 6.1” is too big. Just because I prefer a smaller phone, it doesn’t mean I don’t want all of the features of a larger one. They’ve been able to do it just fine for the last 2 years. Unless they can keep the same overall size of the phone to get that extra 0.3” (much like they did from the 4.7” 7 to the 5.8” X), they need to go back to the drawing board or keep current sizes. I, along with some friends that are similar heights and have hands roughly the same size, already sometimes struggle with the current 5.8” size. If you need a bigger screen for more “comfortable” viewing or for bigger hands, there’s the Max option.

Agreed. Something is not right here. 120Hz for movies would be the ultimate waste of battery.
