The fact remains that a 27in iMac is close to what the marketing peeps at Apple call 'RETINA' and that a slight increase in pixels would achieve this - to claim that this is then a miracle of technology and label it 'RETINA' is just too much for me.
As for improved LCD's and pixel density, of course I welcome this and when the price point is correct for the mass consumer market, I would actually expect Apple to adopt it - we are after all paying a high premium already for Apple-branded goods, so we should also expect superior products - instead, as some have pointed out, we are supplied shoddy products but with superior after sales customer service.
At the end of the day, when I invest quite hefty sums into technology, I'd like it to last a minimum of 3-4 years - given, I like many others have only recently migrated from FW400 external devices, means any abandonment of FW800 would cost a large amount of money in replacement products, or very expensive external ports that sport FW800 via TB.
As I've maintained all along, talk of 'RETINA' displays for large screen iMac's is marketing hype and not technology reality, particularly given the fact that the 27in is presently a virtual RETINA display - now a 4K media display, that is something else and will no doubt be with us before this decade is out once LCD manufacturers get sick of 3D not grabbing consumers attention, it being a natural progression from HD displays.
