Reason to hope?

I don't see Tim Cook dealing with such an decision. Personally I like the upgradeable part of this idea, but all in all is an AIO^^ the better solution for me..

2012 iMac Said to Carry Thinner Design, Alleged Internals Photo Surfaces
Ahr, whatsoever

Reason to hope?

The new iMacs are also said to be more expensive than the current models, but it is unclear how significant any pricing changes would be.

A thinner edge profile points to no room for an ODD. A price increase might support the cost of some new feature: SSD standard?—some increase in pixels? If the HDD is not included except as an option, this would require and also support the cost of SSD as standard.

However, the info on the price increase, considering that it came from China, and from the production side of things, is worrisome. This is not where you would expect a price-based rumor to arise.

Did you assume I speak French just because I'm Canadian? :)
Well I actually do, so thanks! Although that article really didn't have anything new to add to our rumor drought.

This is more like it. I hope their date estimate is accurate, but I can't lie, I'm still really hoping they leave the optical drive in there for now. Touch screen would be sweet but I was doubting that could be accomplished for another year or two. Nevertheless, I agree with most other opinions in the last few weeks. This long of a delay since updating the iMac line will mean one of two extremes:

1) A gradual obsolescence of Apple's desktop line due to a fallacious assumption that we can all get our fill of Mac product versatility from the MacBook line.
2) A huge technological leap forward and/or complete redesign of the iMac, most likely including touchscreens and aesthetic differences, as indicated by that recent link.

Obviously those on this thread are hoping for 2). I just hope there will be a way to upgrade the RAM and SSD/hard drive ourselves, instead of being forced to pay the apple tax... doubtful

Today, 10/16/12, I learned that Digitimes that upstream suppliers were requesting the price. As of now, Apple has not approved it. So my speculations re. the price increase was not well grounded. <http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20121015PD216.html>

Wireless

So w
hat are the odds we'll see 802.11ac wireless ... 10x faster than present 802.11n. Big boost to networking.

[and why not one of the voting options above?]

Earlier this year there was piece about Apple wanting to have it in their products by the end of the year. Other companies have had routers out for a few months now, even though the standard finalization vote is still a couple months away.

Seeing as Apple hasn't added it to any of it's newer products I don't see 802.11AC being available in the new iMac.

Really their first opportunity was the iPhone/iPod Touch, and that's a really poor place to experiment with new wireless protocols. Up until now the iPhone didn't even support 5Ghz networks.

I'd say it's around 50/50 that there's AC in the new iMacs and there's refreshed Airports.

And it's only 50:50 because Apple doesn't like to go with half baked stuff normally. In the real world, noticeable performance in many things users do can be enhanced significantly by better wifi connectivity. More so than the 10% CPU uptick. And Apple know this. Amazon already making a play on this with their tablets. Apple will be taking it very seriously so I hope we get AC

Wireless is actually an exception to this. They were doing Pre-N stuff almost before anyone else was.

...

You know what, they might go AC wireless and no ethernet port

If they go that route they better update their routers.

“It is the most beautiful iMac we have ever made,” announced Schiller. ”It’s hard to believe there is even a display in here.”
