Imac in october news here.. http://www.tapscape.com/2012-imac-production-ramp/

but who knows...

Hm yes, a rumor is always a rumor, but that article mentions retina, and after reading the FPS issues etc with the retina MacBook the outlooks for an iMac with higher resolution and a mobile GPU looks incredibly slim. If Apple were to push that out that only goes to show they know very little of the average iMac user, who does substantially more than surf and chat. Oh and the article also mentions digitimes... just a *sigh* on that one for me. ^^ But thanks for sharing!

Now Digitimes piping up saying October refresh with retina. If it wasn't that old pile of BS at Digitimes, I'd be getting concerned but it has been picked up by some legit media outlets like business insider that are running with the story

Yeah who knows about that rumor.

We see the Geek Bench scores for the i7 3770 in an iMac model, which is the CPU we should expect to see in the high end 27" iMac BTO (since the i7 2600 is in the current high end BTO option - the 3770 being the 2600 successor), leaked back in April or May (not sure, I forget when). We also saw that score paired with the high end CPU available in the rMBP.

With all this being said, our beloved iMac is out there, just waiting to get released - much like the rMPB was.

Mountain Lion will be the perfect time to do so. I bet July 25th. Saw all the rumors from July 2011 and it was filled with iPad 3 and iPhone 5 - then bam, new Mini and Air came into the picture a day or two before Lion dropped.

Jason Gilbert of Huff Post just tweeted that this report by Digitimes makes no sense to him...Hope he's right rather than the notoriously unreliable Digitimes

Running a rumor site has to be one of life's easier pursuits....

I'd guess that the only big worry is liability for which you need insurance and 1st amendment lawyers. But then legal threats are found everywhere in life... At least websites have some protection.

An Austrian Apple News magazine reported today that the production of the new IMac is very near or has already been started. I cannot believe that rumors but I keep my fingers crossed...

Here its the link for people speaking german: Macmania

NeXT 27inch iMac Specs

•Starting Price:1699$

•BTO SSD- Up to 768GB

•Ivy Bridge, 2-4 USB 3 ports, 2-3 Thunderbolt ports, SDXC card slot-Yes (Possibly keep the Gigabit Ethernet port and FireWire 800 port)

•Standard SSD- Yes, at least 128GB Why? Because the competition is doing it Ex: Dell XPS All-in-One

•Standard RAM-At least 6-8GB

•NVIDIA Graphics- GeForce GT 650m or GTX 650-680m ranging from 1GB-2GB

•HDMI- Most likely

•ODD- Most likely kept, but not likely if a redesign takes place

•Redesign- Sure, Getting rid of the chin in order to have a nice alignment with the TBD (it just looks better). Another improvement would be a 1080p FaceTime camera

•Thinner-Possibly, but same size is the most probable

•4x the resolution- Sure why not

•Bigger Screen- Probably not going to happen

•Touch Screen- Never, because Steve Jobs said “It gives great demo but after a short period of time, you start to fatigue and after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off. It doesn't work, it's ergonomically terrible.”

•Blu Ray- Never, because Steve Jobs said “Blu ray is looking more and more like one of the high end audio formats that appeared as the successor to the CD - like it will be beaten by Internet downloadable formats”

Predictions on when and what with the 2012 iMac (specifically 21.5in)

I think that :apple: will have the Ivy bridge processors with USB 3.0.
It might have standard i7, and there might be 24in instead of 21.5in.
It is possible that there will be hex-core processors, but I dought it.
If there was 4d holographic mind control, I would buy it because I could ask Tim Cook about his plans and take control of billions of dollars, but that won't happen, :(.
It might come standard with 8GB of RAM (4GBx2), and baseline 21.5in model might be able to be upgraded to 16GB of RAM (4GBx4? or 8GBx2?). It would either have 4 SODIMM slots or just 2.
The baseline 21.5in model might have 1TB of hard drive space instead of the 500GB it comes with standard now.
What I think it might have is $100 dollars less, so with edu discount, it might go down to $50 for some models.
This is what I think and is not gospel. If you want to hear what I think about mountain lion and the new 2012 iMac, look below: One more thing that I think is that mountain lion will be released along with the iMac on July 25th, and possibly 24th. Here are the facts:
I think that :apple: will probably release mountain lion around 19-29th of July. I think this because of several reasons. Last year, :apple: came out with lion on the 20th of July, and since it is a leap year this year, it would be 365 days from Lion if it were released on the 19th.
I think that the 20th and 21st could be possible dates as well, because the days that :apple: store workers can not take days off are, I believe the 22nd-29th of July. I imagine :apple: will release it a few days before the :apple: store employees take can't take their days off because :apple: might wait a couple days before selling their product.
I'm saying stores because there is likely to be an iMac update, and possibly iPod and Mac Mini updates, but almost certainly an iMac update.
22nd-24th aren't that good guesses, so I don't have much to talk about there.
25th of July is probably the best guess because the wallstreet journal is releasing the amount of sales and money that apple gained in the April-June quarter. :apple: has chosen their date to be July 24th. :apple: really likes to boast about their sales, so last year they had their Keynote one day after their quarter report. July 25th is that day, which is only 5 days different from last years release of lion. :apple: also said that they were going to have an update for their OS about every year, and during the summer.

If GTX 680m I would pay $2500 to get it
If GTX 680 Desktop, I would pay $3000 to get the machine. Its just the GPU now. I dont care about any other impriovments at all.

I have a feeling Apple will do the same thing they did with the MacBook Pro.

Update the main model, and introduce a midsized screen size (I wouldn't object to a 25 incher). that's retina and thinner and whatnot.

Dreams

I'm not so sure will see a redesign this year. Next year is very likely, and I think most of the specs on that list will be in the Haswell iMac as well. But, this year they might just put Ivy Bridge and a new GPU.

Yeah I could see that happening, and if it does I'll just wait until next year.

4k screens can cost a ton less than 30,000$? - True.

Really... You are not doing any research at all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resolution
What is that supposed to prove?

That somehow because a prototype or a display produced in a low quantities costs a bunch of money - mass produced display will cost the same?

It is estimated that MacBook Pro panel (1440x900) costs $68 to make. New (2880x1800) panel adds $100 to the cost.

So, even if go with the dumbest way of calculating cost of 5120x2880 panel, we end up with $460 for the panel itself.

Massed produced for how many people exactly? For 1 year (at most) probably just 900,000 people will get a “so called” 4k iMac. And even then, the price would just lurk at possibly 1,500$ for just the screen.

It doesn't even matter. Don't you get it? They already buy 220 ppi 15.4 panels for $160 a piece (estimated). You don't have to be a genius to see that cutting same panel to 27'' size would cost only about 3 times more, not 10 or 20 times more.

Edit: For 5120x2880 iMac, they wouldn't be able to use same 220 ppi panels they use for MacBook Pro since they need panels with a little bit lower pixel density. About 218 ppi.

Retina Display cost grows Exponentially

This article might help you understand:http://www.forbes.com/sites/benzingainsights/2012/07/02/apple-tv-with-retina-display-would-cost-25000/

Here is a quote from it if you don't care to read the whole thing:

“Right now, we don’t have the economies of scale and economies of scope with the displays,” Chowdhry explained. “The cost of a large display is not linear. You cannot say, ‘The 15-inch model costs [X amount] more, a 50-inch model would cost three or four times more.’ It does not work like that. The cost of the Retina Display grows exponentially.”
