Some real (and by that I mean meaningful) news at long last!

https://www.macrumors.com/2012/05/14/unreleased-2012-macbook-pro-and-imac-models-showing-up-in-benchmarks

Can't wait. My 2008 2.4 GHz 4GB MBP scored about 2000 just now. That said, I didn't bother quitting all my open apps. I think with that, and SSD, I can probably expect a 5x performance increase easily.

Cupertino is unsurprisingly tight-of-lip on when it plans to add Ivy Bridge to its desktop and laptop line, but we think that's not far off: we've even seen some benchmarks. Now, in a move that smacks of inventory clearing but could equally mean nothing, Best Buy has hacked between $20 and $200 from its Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro offerings. If you're into a bargain, then head down to your nearest big blue-and-yellow store -- and we'll let you know as soon as we see the yellow sticky-note.

of course they cant sell something last year with this year's price..

but is that a hint~?

I just went to Best Buy online. Their "discounted" base 27" iMac is the same price at Amazon which is their normal selling price. It also said that I can pick up today at 5 out of the 6 closest stores to me. Since I'm in Seattle, there are quite a few stores.

The Best Buy price reduction may be due to their bankruptcy filing and they are trying to clear inventory to improve their numbers.

somemore~? coincident~?

It's no news to say that Apple will upgrade its MacBook Pro laptop range to Intel's latest generation Core processors, but what else can we look forward to? 9to5Mac has been in touch with sources within Apple's supply chain, who suggest that the 2012 iteration of MBP hardware will be the first in the Mac line to include Retina displays, while also slimming down in the most significant design alteration since 2008.

Specifically addressing a new 15-inch model, the site's informants claim it will omit the optical disc drive in an effort to reach a new thinner profile — albeit one that's still thicker than the MacBook Air — with the power button taking the place of the now-defunct eject key on the keyboard. Their familiarity with Apple's plans stems from seeing prototype unibody casings, which are said to be undergoing test production rounds, so things might still change, though we're not encouraged to hear the designs "lack room for Ethernet."

The information about a Retina display meshes with earlier rumors we'd heard out of Taipei of an upcoming MacBook Pro with 2880 x 1800 resolution, as well as code in Apple's OS X operating system referring to HiDPI (i.e. high resolution) visual assets. What the current sources add to the previous intel is that the screen should be "jaw-dropping."

USB 3.0 is the final major addition, sitting as a complement alongside Thunderbolt, mostly owing to Intel finally supporting SuperSpeed USB natively in its latest chipsets for Ivy Bridge processors. If you're feeling speculative, some GeekBench scores have also emerged, ostensibly of the new-gen MacBook Pro laptops, showing a healthy bump in performance over the stuff that's currently on sale. They also list the Mountain Lion version of OS X as the operating system, so there may be hope for seeing the release of both Apple's latest software and hardware sometime soon — wouldn't WWDC 2012 be just the perfect time?

pointing towards WWDC

The 5 days of sales are over since Saturday. I hope to get to the store soon, see what stock they've still got and will ask for a model that's out of stock. Belgian Apple Store still says 1-3 days delivery time for standard models. So it's contradictory...
No changes in disponibility and shipping delays on the Belgian Apple Store.

The 27" 2,7GHz iMac has sold out in the shop nearby (10% discount on standard retail price). I asked for delivery date when I'd order one, but they'd have one come over from another one of their shops so I can't really know what would be the delivery delay from Apple.
I subsequently asked what they know about an upcoming update, and the answer was "less than you, I'm afraid".

Should quiet the "how do you know there's an upgrade coming at all" crowd at least.

Last hardware release at WWDC was the MBP, in 2009. I could imagine "retina" and "slimmer but not quite as slim as the Air" could get the MBP featured again, but it's a stretch. Nothing there would point to any dates on the iMac though, although it's a backhanded confirmation that the iMac won't be retina (as many of us suspected would be the case).

As far as I can tell, the last time we saw unreleased macs at geekbench (4. feb. 2010), it took an additional two months before there was a release (13. april 2010). Guess it doesn't have to mean that the release is imminent. But hey, atleast it's news!

I saw that too, but one point does not a line make.

can we hope for tomorrow, or is that to early?

i wish geekbench just pulled gpu info as well :/

From 9 to 5 Mac / engadget

Update: 9to5Mac has done some digging and come up with a few more interesting tidbits about the upcoming MacBook Pro refresh. For one, code pulled from the Mountain Lion beta appears to indicate that the Ivy Bridge machines will boast USB 3.0 and a new GPU in the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. The site also claims that the laptops will be slimmer than the current gen, a rumor that's we've been hearing for quite some time now.

I agree. Definitely can't imagine them delaying the release to august, but they don't have to show up tomorrow just because someone ran a benchmark with the new models. My guesstimate is still some time before mid-june.

I was a bit more optimistic when I sold my late 2009 iMac back in march, just in case a redesign would make second hand value plummet ;)

why does apples store home page still advertise mothers day? wouldn't you think a company like them would have an ending time auto deletion of that ad

I just had a quick look at the gt650m. It appears to be an upper average mobile graphics card that can play most new releases on recommended settings.

It looks like a good card that will be used in the Alienware laptops.

The smallest of the bunch is the Alienware M14x, and along with Ivy Bridge the GPU option gets upgraded from GT 555M to the new Kepler-based GT 650M. We’ve pulled the specs for the GT 650M from NVIDIA’s site, and it’s possible that Alienware will use slightly different clocks, but it should still be a sizeable upgrade to the previous M14x model that used a GT 555M with DDR3 memory. Memory bandwidth goes up nearly 50%, and compute performance likewise gets a healthy shot in the arm: the 384 CUDA cores in the GT 650M should provide 66% more compute and texturing potential

I hope the rumors are wrong. I want the AMD GPUs and not Nvidia 650m. See some benchmarks

3D Mark Benchmark from 2006 tells me nothing.

The performance numbers are recent for the 7970m and they are pretty amazing. Or what do you mean with 2006?

The link you posted was for benchmarks from 3d Mark 06. Edit: My apologies, it's also 3D mark 2011, but regardless, those numbers are from synthetic benchmarks and are from a"some bloke sent me the results" type scenario, which does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

We have not seen any proper reviews and benchmarks for the 650M so let's wait and see before being disappointed, eh? Considering the fact that the 680 came along and destroyed the 7970 tells us something. Never mind the fact that it was also cheaper thereby forcing AMD to reduce the rrp on the 7970. Hell, the even cheaper 670 keeps up with the 7970.

Eurocom charges €100 more for the AMD 7970m 2gb card versus the Nvidia GTX675M card on their Neptune 2.0 notebooks. This is based on performance I would presume, but perhaps also on AMD prices being higher. Performance is main reason why I still hope for the new AMD chips instead of Nvidia this time around. But, I'd be happy to be proven that Nvidia performs better.

There are contradictory rumors so I keep my fingers crossed it will go "my way".

The 7970m does seem to be doing well in the benchmarks that I've seen, but I won't cry if it's Nvidia this time around.

The "temperature" is warming up, some rumors are starting to appear, I can picture it in my mind: "iMac released today!"

Tomorrow hopefully!

I'm hoping for anti-glare screen and USB3, I don't mind the loss of the ODD, but I also hope they don't ditch the firewire and ethernet.
