I wouldn't be surprised if they got back to a near-yearly cycle with the Minis after they crushed it with the M4. Even (or maybe especially?) if it's only a stat bump.

I'll be curious if they reconfigure the Mini for better heat control...maybe copper inside.

already? october 2026 launch seems ideal, or thats what i wish
the mini getting the yearly upgrade treatment doesnt sit right at all to me
Why not? The m chips are basically glorified A chips (in the good sense) and we get new A chips every year. It’s nice that the mac gets updated frequently.

Hard to imagine they'll let the Mac Mini outshine the MacBook Pros with an M5 chip when they don't offer that.

Other than Wifi 7, not sure what else other than a processor speed bump they'd enhance it with.

I like seeing improvements on a schedule as fast as possible, but unless we start seeing rumors of MacBook Pros with M5s on the near horizon, I'm with Team 2026 for the next Mac Mini (and no guarantees then).
Apple designed WiFi chip would save a licensing fee (to Broadcom?) so would mean that M5 updates could be a cost saving measure.

We don’t yet know if m5 will include thunderbolt 5 that currently comes with m4 pro chip.

Maybe a second benefit could see a matching studio display upgrade come with thunderbolt 5 ports.

I'm deciding between a Mac mini M4 (or this potential) and the iMac. Specs would be the same. I have a decent monitor but not as good as the iMac's.
I used to always get an iMac for work but I switched to a Mac Mini this time around. I decided it makes more financial sense to reuse the keyboard, trackpad, and monitor as they don’t need to be upgraded as often. So I bought a 4K display that I can continue to use after upgrading the computer.

I only would expect TB5 for the base M5 model, faster RAM and WiFi 7 as the most significant changes.

I was convinced to wait until the M5 Mac mini, however, because my M2 iPad Pro currently covers most of my needs, I might wait a bit more for the first 2nm SoC of Apple, the M6.

However the M5 will probably be the last Mac mini to support Rosetta compatibility layer… so I’m not so sure about what to do.

can we get an option to power it up by usbc? it could even have one of those ports where the usbc port is set back inside by a centimeter, and the official usbc cable to power it could fill the space there exactly so that it kind of locks into place.

for example, this microusb cable locks into its host device (security camera) by way of the shape of its endcap, with the security camera having an exact shaped space for it. a usbc power cable could do the same thing on a mac mini. could be a little smaller but still. this way, it'd have the benefit of using the "everything connector" if the original was lost, but still benefit from the original cable design as well.

kind of like, how on the original iphone, the 3.5mm headphone jack was recessed, they could do that for the usbc power port as well.

Can we get a Mac mini with A19 Pro chip and 128GB storage for like $299-349? In the next year or two I'm planning to get a Mac mini to setup for my kids in the family room so they can have proper internet access and a space for working on school projects on a real computer. I'm sure an A19 Pro with 12GB memory and 128GB storage would be fine for this basic purpose. It would basically be a souped-up Apple TV. They could even cut back on some features, like no Thunderbolt, no Ethernet, etc. Maybe even make it USB-C powered so it doesn't need a special plug on the back, and could probably make it shorter to save on aluminum, maybe even remove one of the front USB-C ports if they have to retool it anyway just to get the price as low as possible.

Only reason I'm even entertaining such an idea is the rumored A-series powered MacBook for $599. But $299-349 might be too low, although right now you can get an M4 Mac mini on Amazon with 16GB memory and 256GB storage for $499, so who knows. But my daughter has expressed wanting me to add my second seat license for Adobe Creative Cloud onto such a machine, so a refurb M-series probably makes more sense when the time comes.
